It all started when Afridi appeared on Pakistani television and questioned the role of Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the large number of troops deployed in the region, he said, 'Tum logon ki 8 lakh hi fauj hai Kashmir mein aur yeh ho gaya… iska matlab nalayak ho, nikamme ho.'
This comment came shortly after India pointed towards Pakistan-backed terror groups as being responsible for the deadly incident, one of the worst in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
Dhawan hit back on X (formerly Twitter). In a sharp response, he wrote, "Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!"
Afridi responded with sarcasm, saying, 'Chouro jeet haar ko, aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar. #FantasticTea'

Earlier, he had also mocked Indian media, comparing its coverage of the attack to a Bollywood film and suggesting that Indian cricketers were unfairly blaming Pakistan.

What Kerala CM said about The Kerala Story's win Taking to Twitter (now X) on Friday, CM Pinarayi Vijayan wrote, "By honouring a film that spreads blatant misinformation with the clear intent of tarnishing Kerala's image and sowing seeds of communal hatred, the jury of the #NationalFilmAwards has lent legitimacy to a narrative rooted in the divisive ideology of the Sangh Parivar. Kerala, a land that has always stood as a beacon of harmony and resistance against communal forces, has been gravely insulted by this decision. It is not just Malayalis, but everyone who believes in democracy, must raise their voice in defence of truth and the constitutional values we hold dear." Sudipto Sen reacts Upon hearing the comment, Sudipto Sen told HT, "I think Pinayari Vijayan, sir, who is a very senior and seasoned politician, hasn't seen my film. "15 years ago, a prominent Kerala politician had a press conference in Delhi where he said that PFI and SGPI are so active in Kerala that they may turn it into an ISIS state soon. I travelled across several blocks in Kerala, and met 500 girls there. When the Censor Board (CBFC) took two months to clear the film, I gave evidence for each line of dialogue in the film. I stand by every dialogue and visual of the film. Nobody can discredit me by just putting a comment on Instagram or Twitter." Before signing off, the newly minted National Award winner added, "My earnest request to Pinayari Vijayan, sir, is that he should see the film and see if I am wrong. If he can find one line or sentence in the film wrong, he should tell me." About The Kerala Story The Kerala Story starred Adah Sharma in the lead. The film was about a group of girls from Kerala who were radicalised by ISIS militants. Makers claimed that the film is inspired by true events, and that 32000 girls from Kerala have met this fate. This claim was challenged by the Kerala government in court, and the makers had to drop the number from the film. The Kerala Story released to a good reception from the audiences, minting over ₹300 crore at the box office.

Trump's conflicting South Asia policies strain US-India ties
Toronto: US President Donald Trump's South Asian policy has been marked with strategic contradictions, straining its relationship with India. Though the US considers India a vital player in the Indo-Pacific and seeks its partnership in the region, several of Trump's policy decisions have clashed with India's core strategic interests, a report cited on Saturday. Such contradictions became apparent in several recent decisions, including hosting Pakistan's army chief, General Asim Munir, at the White House, supporting an IMF bailout to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, and recurring gestures of praise towards Pakistani leadership, Imran Khurshid, an Associate Research Fellow at the International Centre for Peace Studies (ICPS) in New Delhi, wrote in the Eurasian Times. He highlighted that the US support for Pakistan has emboldened Islamabad's strategic confidence, providing it with a leeway to act aggressively against India — politically, militarily, and diplomatically — "especially at sensitive geopolitical moments". "If the US wants India to be a serious and independent partner in the Indo-Pacific, it must stop undermining India in South Asia and respect its sensitivities. It must abandon binary, fragmented regional frameworks and instead pursue an integrated strategy that strengthens India's position — not weakens it," Khurshid mentioned. "If these contradictions continue, America may not just lose India — it may lose the very global leadership it once proudly commanded. Trump claims to want to 'Make America Great Again', but his actions might just ensure America becomes isolated, distrusted, and strategically irrelevant," he added. The relationship between India and the US was once described as the "defining partnership of the 21st century". Previous US Presidents, including Bill Clinton in his second term, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, made considerable efforts to establish mutual trust and followed the policy of de-hyphenation with India and Pakistan, "treating each country on its own merits". "They largely respected India's red lines, particularly on sensitive issues like Kashmir and strategic autonomy, and avoided viewing India through a Pakistan-centric lens..." Trump's transactional approach to foreign policy, he wrote, is driven by personal ego, unpredictable behaviour, fragmented thinking, and an obsession with trade deficits and tariffs which has made India uneasy. The recent actions by Trump, reckoned the author, have eroded the trust and warmth that once existed in the India–US relationship. "This disregard recently escalated with Trump's unilateral decision to impose a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods starting August 1, 2025, coupled with vague but punitive secondary sanctions linked to India's continued purchases of Russian oil and defence equipment," he stated.
