'Is Desh Bhakti Only For...': Shikhar Dhawan & Co. Slammed Over WCL Match Vs Pakistan

Last Updated: Shikhar Dhawan and other Indian cricketers have faced criticism for playing against Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends after the Pahalgam attack. Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and a bunch of other players have been grilled on social media as they are all set to take on Pakistan in a classic clash in the World Championship of Legends on Sunday, July 20, in Birmingham, months after the Pahalgam attack, which soured relations between the two countries. This is the second season of the World Championship of Legends, but it is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Besides India and Pakistan, England, the West Indies, South Africa, and Australian players are also featuring in this league. After the Pahalgam attack, many former and current Pakistan players, including Shahid Afridi, were spewing venom against India on social media. Afridi in particular had begun holding victory parades and was even abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reportedly. After this, Dhawan had protested and had replied to Afridi curtly on social media. 'Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial," Dhawan had tweeted in April. But only two months after Operation Sindoor, Dhawan is going to play a game on the same ground as Afridi. Not just Dhawan, but many famous former Indian cricketers, including Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan, are part of this event and will play with Pakistan cricketers like Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. 'Indian ex-cricketers like Harbhajan, Yuvraj & Dhawan are happily playing WCL matches vs Pakistan in a private league! But when it's public, they scream nationalism," a user tweeted on Friday night. "Aao tumhey chae pilata hun": Shahid Afridi's jibe at Shikhar Dhawan backfires as netizens recall 'fantastic chai' after 1971 war victory

At a time when India is grieving the loss of 26 innocent lives in a terror attack in Pahalgam, a social media post by former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has drawn widespread criticism. #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack The groundwork before India mounts a strike at Pakistan India considers closing airspace to Pakistani carriers amid rising tensions Cold Start: India's answer to Pakistan's nuclear threats It all started when Afridi appeared on Pakistani television and questioned the role of Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the large number of troops deployed in the region, he said, 'Tum logon ki 8 lakh hi fauj hai Kashmir mein aur yeh ho gaya… iska matlab nalayak ho, nikamme ho.' This comment came shortly after India pointed towards Pakistan-backed terror groups as being responsible for the deadly incident, one of the worst in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack. Dhawan hit back on X (formerly Twitter). In a sharp response, he wrote, "Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!" Afridi responded with sarcasm, saying, 'Chouro jeet haar ko, aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar. #FantasticTea' Live Events — SAfridiOfficial (@SAfridiOfficial) Earlier, he had also mocked Indian media, comparing its coverage of the attack to a Bollywood film and suggesting that Indian cricketers were unfairly blaming Pakistan. While the two cricketers have had spats in the past, many social media users expressed disappointment over the timing of Afridi's comments. With families mourning the loss of their loved ones, public figures are being urged to show greater sensitivity.

Shahid Afridi's peace offering for Shikhar Dhawan after IND-PAK debate over Pahalgam issue: ‘Aao tumhey chae pilata hun'

Shahid Afridi invited Indian counterpart Shikhar Dhawan after the latter lashed out at the former Pakistan captain for his insensitive remarks on the Indian Army in the aftermath of deadly Pahalgam attacks that took the lives of 26 innocent tourists on April 22. Dhawan lost his cool when Afridi blamed the Indian Army for failing to stop the Pahalgam terrorist attack, by calling them 'good for nothing'. This irked former India opener Dhawan who took to social media platform X to give a strong reply. "Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind! (We beat you in Kargil. Already you guys have stooped so low, how further can you go? Instead of passing comments, focus on improving the condition of your own country. We are proud of Indian Army)," Dhawan told Afridi in a X post. In reply to Dhawan, Afridi looked to have softened his voice and wrote, 'Chouro jeet haar ko, aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar (let's keep win-loss aside. Come, let's have some tea, Shikhar).' Talking to a Pakistani TV show, Afridi compared Indian media's reaction on Pahalgam attack to Bollywood. "Tum logon ki 8 lakh ki fauj hai Kashmir mein aur yeh ho gaya. Iska matlab nalayak ho, nikamme ho na tum log ki security de nahi sake logon ko (You have an 8,00,000-strong army in Kashmir and this still happened. It means you are inefficient and useless if you couldn't provide security to the people)," he said. 'Hairat hoti hai ki hamle ke ek ghante ke baad hi unka media Bollywood ban gaya. Khuda ke liye har kuch ko Bollywood mat banao (It's surprising that within an hour of the attack, their media turned into Bollywood. For God's sake, don't make everything Bollywood),' he added. 'Apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao': Shikhar Dhawan, Danish Kaneria slam Shahid Afridi's remark on Indian Army

Shahid Afridi is facing backlash from Shikhar Dhawan and Danish Kaneria after his controversial remarks on the Indian Army following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir. Dhawan reminded Afridi of Pakistan's humiliating defeat at the hands of the Indian Army in the 1999 Kargil war. read more Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has come under fire for his comments about the Indian Army after the tragic terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam, where 26 innocent civilians were killed on 22 April. Afridi, speaking to Pakistani media, had questioned India's claims and demanded 'proof' of Pakistan's involvement in the attack. Afridi made some baseless allegations against the Indian security forces. 'Patakha phat jaata hai wahaa par, Pakistan ne kiya. Tum logo ki 8 lakh ki fauj hai Kashmir mein aur ye ho gaya. Iska matlab nalayak ho, nikamme ho na tum log ki security nahi de sake logo ko,' Afridi had said on Samaa TV. (Even if a cracker bursts there, you blame Pakistan. You have an 8 lakh-strong army in Kashmir, yet this happened. This means your Army is useless for not being able to protect your people.) Dhawan reminded Afridi of Pakistan's humiliating defeat at the hands of the Indian Army in the 1999 Kargil war. He also advised the Pakistan cricketer to think about their country's development rather than making baseless comments. 'He has consistently aligned himself with extremist views. In my opinion, he should not be given a platform on Indian television or within the country. Additionally, he tried to persuade me to convert to Islam and declined to share a meal with me, which I found deeply disrespectful,' Kaneria posted on X. Many cricketers and fans alike have condemned the attack that claimed several innocent lives. India has taken strict action in response to the attack. The Indian government has already asked Pakistani nationals to leave the country before 1 May and has implemented the closure of the Wagah-Attari crossing.
