Banswara MP accuses BJP of disrupting rally in Jhalawar
2
Jaipur: Banswara MP Rajkumar Roat Sunday accused the BJP of orchestrating a disruption during a Bhil community rally in Jhalawar which turned chaotic after a faction protested his presence.
The rally, held in Khandia area Sunday, was organised as a pre-event to mark World Tribal Day, officially observed on Aug 9.
Roat in a post on X said that BJP and ABVP leaders arrived at the venue carrying saffron flags and launched a targeted provocation. "They didn't come to participate; they came to create chaos. BJP and ABVP leaders, wielding saffron flags, attacked us while we were raising our voices for justice for the students who died in the Jhalawar school tragedy," Roat alleged.
He further stated, "BJP leaders do not want to give justice to the students who lost their lives, but they are ready to resort to hooliganism dressed in saffron against those who demand accountability."
The disturbance began when a group of Bhil leaders, objecting to Roat's political messaging, approached the stage and raised slogans demanding that he stop promoting the BAP (Bharat Adivasi Party) ideology at the community event.

Both groups clashed with each other, following which the police swung into action and resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
In response, Roat attempted to calm the crowd, saying, "Let's sit down and talk." However, the protesters refused to engage, prompting police intervention to remove them from the immediate vicinity of the stage.
The situation quickly escalated when police mistakenly tried to detain Arvind, a supporter of the protest group.
As officers attempted to escort him away, his associates intervened, pulling him back and engaging in a brief scuffle with the police. The confrontation intensified when members of the crowd began pelting stones at the police, forcing authorities to use mild force to disperse the protesters and restore order.
Roat later blamed BJP for instigating the protest. "Those behind this disruption are connected to the BJP organisation," he said, accusing the opposition party of exploiting internal divisions within the tribal community for political gain. He also said Rajasthan govt's recently announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for tribal families was a symbolic gesture lacking real commitment.

CRPF officer blames police for inaction on burglary complaint
: A CRPF personnel, currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday blamed Ponnai police for still not arresting the suspects who burgled her house near Katpadi here in June 2025. In a video, which was shared by BJP leader K. Annamalai on his X handle, the CRPF personnel, who identified herself as Kalavathi from Narayanapuram village near Katpadi, said that on June 24, as part of their routine, her parents took their cattle for grazing around 3.30 p.m. On returning home around 5.30 p.m., the couple found the main door broken. Valuables, including 22.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery, ₹50,000, and silk sarees, were found to be missing. 'My father informed the local police, but they delayed registration of complaint, citing bandobast duty for the Chief Minister's visit to the district the following day. We got the FIR copy only on June 28. So far, no progress has been made in the case,' she alleged in the video. Police sources said Kalavathi's father, Kumarasamy, 65, lived with his wife and son. According to the police, a case was registered at 7.30 p.m. on June 25, and not as mentioned in the video (around 12.30 p.m. on June 26). An FIR copy was issued on the same day to K. Dasarathan, 32, Kumarasamy's son. 'The case is in the final stages of investigation. The suspects will be arrested soon,' A. Myilvaganan, SP (Vellore), told The Hindu. Police sources said a preliminary investigation was done on the same day as the complaint was filed by Kumarasamy. Two police personnel attached to Ponnai police inspected the crime spot. Fingerprints of six suspects were taken as part of the inquiry. The Call Detail Record of nine suspects, including those mentioned by the victim, are also being analysed. 'Around 80% of the investigation is done. Suspects will be held soon,' police sources said.

Tree Funeral March: AAP protests irregularities in tree cutting in Pune
In a unique show of protest, the Adam Aadmi Party (AAP) organised a symbolic 'Tree Funeral March' on Monday to raise concerns about alleged illegal tree cutting and the lack of transparency in the tree permission process in Pune. The march, featuring participants carrying cut tree branches and saplings wrapped in white cloth, akin to dead bodies, began from JM Road and concluded at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters. AAP leaders and volunteers accused PMC and other authorities of turning a blind eye to rampant tree felling across the city. 'Between April 2022 and December 2023 alone, official data accessed through the RTI Act shows that permissions were granted to cut 10,502 trees and transplant 11,860 trees,' the party stated in its press release. While agencies were mandated to plant 3.4 lakh compensatory trees and deposited a total of Rs 22.5 crore for the same, AAP alleged that there is no credible or publicly accessible record to confirm whether these plantations have actually taken place. 'The Tree Authority is functioning in a non-transparent manner. Citizens are left in the dark about how decisions are made, where compensatory plantations happen, or if they survive,' said one of the party volunteers during the protest. The party has demanded an immediate halt to illegal tree cutting, a complete audit of past permissions, and the creation of a publicly monitored dashboard to track compensatory plantations.

Congress to observe Aug 5 as 'black day', demand J-K statehood restoration
The Congress will observe August 5 as a "black day" against the downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir from a state to a Union territory six years ago and will sit on a dharna to press for the restoration of statehood. On August 5, 2019, the Centre scrapped J&K's special status and bifurcated the state into two Union territories. The Congress is backed by the other members of the All Parties United Morcha, which was created with the aim of restoring statehood, for the protest on Wednesday. "The Congress party shall observe August 5 as a black day against the downgrading of the historical J&K state into a Union territory. All constituent members are fully supporting it together," chief spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Ravinder Sharma, told reporters here. He said that a peaceful sit-in will be organised by the Congress supported by All Parties United Morcha near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi bridge in Jammu to press for the early restoration of full statehood to J-K. Sharma appealed to all people and organisations of Jammu to support the dharna in a bid to force the BJP-led central government to grant statehood to J-K. "The Government of India should bring a bill in this session of Parliament, pass the bill, and restore statehood. This is the demand of all of us," he said. Blaming New Delhi for running the region with a "remote control", he said that the denial of statehood was weakening the democratic setup, and people are witnessing the "treatment" by the elected chief minister and the lieutenant governor's administration. The government had promised the people of Jammu and Kashmir the restoration of statehood, and they should fulfil it, the Congress leader said. The Supreme Court has also called for the restoration of statehood, he said, adding that the BJP and its government in New Delhi are "deceiving" people here. All district units of the Congress will also organise similar dharnas at their respective district headquarters and observe "black day" on Wednesday as part of "Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq", he said.
