The fourth edition of the country's biggest T20 winter club cricket competition, the Jozi Cup, drew to a close on Sunday evening.
More than 130 teams competed throughout the seven-week tournament, and whether you were in Under-11s, in the Over-40s or featured somewhere in between, there was something for everyone – on field and off, from first ball to final over.
Perhaps the greatest privilege of participating in this tournament is the opportunity to perform on the world stage of the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium. With the finals running from June 14-22, players, coaches and managers enjoyed full use of the world-class facilities, including change rooms, fields, nets and the Media Centre.

Exposing players to the very best results in exponential growth certainly gives clubs the edge, says Jozi Cup tournament director Reuben Mandlazi.
'This tournament is honestly like no other," said Mandlazi.
"Clubs rally their troops and bring their A-game throughout, knowing full well that the scouts are out hunting and the Telkom Talent Acceleration Programme is in full swing. The passion, determination and commitment result in a fantastic few weeks for all who fall within the Lions Cricket pride.'
The fourth edition of the Jozi Cup included a new section for the Under-13 girls. The league boasted five teams, each playing eight round-robin matches.
The game time for each girl was substantial, and the tournament has played its part in creating opportunities for the girls' pipeline to grow, says Lions Women's cricket leader Shaun Pretorius.
'We are immensely proud of our product and hope to grow more and more as the years go by. Witnessing the talent already present at the U13 girls' level is so rewarding," said Pretorius.

"The teams were selected by way of individual statistics. We also included coaches – that's important to note because they are the driving force behind each player's success. Both 'All Star' games played on Sunday surpassed our expectations, where more than 440 runs were scored across both innings – what a great showcase for women's cricket – could you ask for anything more?'
Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright says that this tournament is by the community, for the community.
'Every year, the clubs and the communities step up and deliver outstanding cricket and unwavering commitment. It's our honour to host the Jozi Cup, and on behalf of our Pride, I thank all those who made this tournament our most successful yet.'

Lions Cricket and Telkom renew partnership to strengthen inclusive pipeline

Lions cricket staff, including chief executive Jono Leaf-Wright, celebrate the renewal of the grassroots-driven partnership with Telkom for another three years. Lions Cricket players, from grassroots to senior teams, were in attendance. Photo Supplied Image: Lions Cricket Lions Cricket are proud to confirm the Pride's partnership renewal with Telkom for at least three years, reinforcing a shared commitment to bridging the gap between amateur and professional cricket through a robust, inclusive, and all-encompassing pipeline programme. The Telkom Talent Acceleration Programme is the umbrella under which the #ThePrideOfJozi cricketing ecosystem operates — identifying and nurturing talent both on and off the field. At the heart of this system are foundational initiatives like the Mini-Cricket programme, which introduces the sport at grassroots level, with a strong focus on previously disadvantaged communities across Gauteng. Driven by passionate volunteers, the programme also includes coaching certifications and encourages local clubs to host community festivals to foster participation and enthusiasm. Proteas Men's head coach Shukri Conrad has today announced full-strength squads for the upcoming white-ball tour against Australia, scheduled to take place next month.🇿🇦🏏 Congratulations to our DP World Lions, Temba Bavuma, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Kwena Maphaka, Wiaan… — DP World Lions (@LionsCricketSA) July 24, 2025 Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ Progressing through the age groups are Youth and Schools Cricket programmes, which continue to produce standout performances and national representatives. With transformation and inclusion as central pillars, the initiative ensures access to structured cricket opportunities for all schools — levelling the playing field across the province. Bridging the gap from school to professional cricket are the Telkom Lions Academy and Colts programmes, which focus not only on cricketing excellence but also on life skills, preparing players for elite performance and long-term success. Academy players are scouted from clubs and schools and are guided through a holistic development journey. Club cricket also forms a crucial part of the ecosystem, with competitions such as the Enza Premier League (Men), DP World Premier League (Women), Blackwidow T20, Macrocomm Knockout Cup, and the Jozi Cup, all ensuring consistent competitive action and growth across the board. 'We are proud to continue our partnership with Lions Cricket and to reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable cricketing ecosystem,' said Gugu Mthembu, Telkom's chief marketing officer. 'At Telkom, we believe in the power of sport to transform lives and communities.' Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright emphasised the importance of the grassroots-driven approach that underpins the entire pipeline. 'All of this is pushed from the bottom up – our Hubs, the Telkom Talent Acceleration Programme, the Telkom Lions Academy, and multiple leagues spanning quality schools, universities, and clubs,' said Leaf-Wright. ' This Pride is relentless in pursuit of perfection, and with Telkom walking with us, our journey is genuinely changing lives for the better — on-field and off it.' Beyond cricketing development, Telkom's involvement includes infrastructure investment, with the revamping and revival of multiple cricket venues helping to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the game in Gauteng.
