Kuching motorist who brandished airsoft gun gets 3 days' jail, fined RM2,500 for drug abuse

KUCHING (June 23): The Magistrates' Court here today sentenced a 22-year-old motorist who brandished an airsoft pistol while driving along Jalan Kereta Api (Jalan Datuk Patinggi Ahmad Zaidi Adruce) last Thursday to three days in jail for possessing an imitation firearm.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan handed down the sentence to Mohammad Afif Izzuddin Bujang following his guilty plea to a charge under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a maximum penalty of one year imprisonment, a fine up to RM5,000, or both.
Mohammad Afif committed this offence at an intersection of Jalan Kereta Api around 4:30pm on June 19, 2025.
According to the facts of the case, police managed to trace his car's registration number from a viral video showing him brandishing the fake pistol while driving.
A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to his arrest.
Further investigation revealed that Mohammad Afif brandished the gun in an attempt to scare off the driver behind him, as he was dissatisfied that the driver had not given way and was following too closely.
In separate proceedings before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, Mohammad Afif was fined RM2,500 in default three months imprisonment after pleading guilty to abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The court also ordered him to undergo two years of supervision upon either paying the fine or completing the custodial sentence
He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine abuse, an offence punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
This Section stipulates a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment term not exceeding two years. In addition, upon completion of the sentence, the offender must undergo supervision for a period of not less than two years and not more than three years.
Mohammad Afif committed the offence at the Kuching District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department office at around 3.50pm on May 18, 2021.

IPOH: A single mother pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to two charges of trafficking her biological daughter for sexual exploitation over the past three years. Court orders release of woman linked to Sibu drug syndicate
SIBU: The Magistrates' Court has ordered the release of a 44-year-old woman previously detained with her husband on suspicion of masterminding a drug trafficking syndicate in Sibu since 2015. Magistrate Oon Kork Chern granted the release order on Tuesday (June 24) following an application by investigating officer Insp Aminur Rizwan Saiful Bahari. The woman, represented by solicitor Darren Ling, had been held on remand for four days since June 20. Her 52-year-old husband remains in custody under a seven-day remand and will appear in court again on Thursday (June 26) for further investigation. The couple were apprehended during a major operation by the Sibu Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department on June 12 and 13 at locations around Jalan Pedada Commercial Centre and Lorong Permai Jaya. The raids led to the confiscation of drugs valued at RM532,934.40, including 7,086.7gms of syabu, 2,078.9gms of ketamine, and 2,022.6gms of Erimin 5 pills. Authorities also seized RM5.15mil in cash, four gold bars, two gold chains, two Rolex watches, and three luxury vehicles, bringing the total estimated value of the seizure to RM8.53mil. Investigations suggest the syndicate has been active in drug trafficking across the Sibu area for nearly a decade, with the couple identified as key figures in the operation.

Mum, stepdad remanded for alleged abuse of boy
KANGAR: A couple has been remanded until June 27 to assist police in their investigation into the alleged abuse of a 6-year-old boy at their home in Simpang Empat here. The suspects, aged 27 and 37, are the child's biological mother and stepfather. They were arrested after the boy's grandfather lodged a police report. Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the incident was reported last Friday when the boy told his grandfather that he had been assaulted by both his mother and stepfather while staying at their house in Simpang Empat. "The child claimed he was pinched on the right thigh, slapped on the head, struck on the left chest with a stone, poked with a needle on his left arm and choked by both suspects. "The ordeal left him fearful and unwilling to return to his mother's house," he said in a statement today (June 24). Yusharifuddin said the boy had been taken to his grandfather's house, who then brought him to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar for a medical check-up before lodging the report. "A physical examination found no bruises or swelling except for a puncture wound consistent with a needle prick on the left arm. "The boy has been admitted for observation and is now under the care of his grandparents," he added. Police detained the suspects at 11pm yesterday in Simpang Empat. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
