L'Jarius Sneed activated off PUP list

NBC Sports13 hours ago
The Titans are getting a critical defensive piece on the practice field.
Tennessee announced on Wednesday that cornerback L'Jarius Sneed has been activated off of the physically unable to perform list. He is set to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday.
Sneed, 28, was able to play just five games last year before going down with a season-ending quad injury. He then underwent offseason knee surgery.
Entering his sixth season, Sneed played his first four years with the Chiefs. He was traded to the Titans last offseason after Kansas City franchise-tagged him.
In 62 career games with 59 starts, Sneed has recorded 10 interceptions, 40 passes defensed, and 6.5 sacks. He won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs to cap the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Bullet fired into Chiefs building while Andy Reid was inside in 2024: Source

A bullet was fired into an office at the Chiefs' practice facility while Andy Reid was inside in May 2024, the Kansas City Star reported on Wednesday and a source briefed on the situation confirmed to The Athletic. The Kansas City Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the facility and that an investigation is ongoing. No charges or arrests have been made. Advertisement The Kansas City Star reported that the bullet lodged into a wall about 15 feet from Reid's desk, and that two other bullets hit the building during the incident, which occurred after midnight on May 4. Police said that overnight security told officers that someone in the building alerted them about a noise and observed what seemed like a bullet hole in the window. 'Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault,' the Kansas City Police Department said on Wednesday. 'No one was struck, and there were no injuries associated with the incident.' Police said that 'there is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.' The Chiefs declined to comment on the situation. Team president Mark Donovan is set to talk at the team's kickoff luncheon on Thursday. The Kansas City Star reported that since the incident, Reid is now protected by bulletproof glass while working. Over a year after the incident, a shooting at a New York City office tower home to the NFL's headquarters prompted the league to put out a memo recommending enhanced security at team and league facilities. The NFL suggested adding armed officers at facilities when players and staff are present, instituting weapons screening such as X-ray scanners at facilities and updating threat assessments. The shooting at NFL headquarters took place on July 28. Four people were killed and one was wounded, along with the shooter, Shane Tamura, who took his own life. New York Mayor Eric Adams said that investigators thought Tamura took the wrong elevator while trying to reach the league offices. The New York Times reported that Tamura left a note in his wallet criticizing the NFL for concealing the dangers of football and referencing CTE, a degenerative brain disease connected with repeated blows to the head that is diagnosed through autopsy. Tamura played high school football but did not play in college or professionally. Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Play today's puzzle

Tennessee Titans' L'Jarius Sneed 'very confident' he will be ready Week 1

The Tennessee Titans welcomed cornerback L'Jarius Sneed back onto the practice field in a limited capacity on Wednesday after activating him from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list earlier in the day. This marked the first time since injuring his quad early in the 2024 season that Sneed has been on the field with his teammates, taking part in preparations for the upcoming season. While his return is a boost for the secondary, it is unlikely that the veteran cornerback will take any meaningful team reps until the start of the regular season. After practice, Sneed spoke to reporters and explained why it took so long for him to return to the field after he declared he was healthy at a football camp just weeks before the start of camp. 'It wasn't my decision. It was coach Callahan,' Sneed said, 'He's taking it slow with me. They're all taking it slow to make sure I'm good for the season.' Whether or not that is truly the case is unknown, although ensuring Sneed is healthy for the entirety of the season would seem to be a priority for Callahan and the organization. At one time, when healthy, Sneed was a dynamic playmaker. If he can recapture that level of play in the Titans' secondary, the entire defense will benefit. Now that Sneed has returned and he is "very confident" that he will be ready for the opener, it will be interesting to see how this impacts roster construction over the next few weeks. Wide receiver-depleted 49ers trade for Chiefs' underperforming Skyy Moore

The San Francisco 49ers addressed a problem position Wednesday by trading for Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore, a league source said. With their wide receiver corps weakened by injuries and a pending suspension, the 49ers hope they bolstered the spot by adding a 2022 second-round pick who has yet to realize expectations. The 49ers traded a 2027 sixth-round pick and received a 2027 seventh-rounder in exchange. The trade won't be official until Moore passes a physical. After trading speedy All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins three years ago, the Chiefs selected Moore 54th overall to replace their decorated vertical threat. But that never happened. Moore, who ran a 4.41-second 40 before he was drafted, had 43 catches for 494 yards and one touchdown in 36 games with Kansas City. Last year, he didn't have a catch while playing 82 offensive snaps in the first six games before his season ended due to a core muscle injury. The 49ers have been in the market for a wideout. Last week, they were reportedly the other team involved in serious talks for Texans wide receiver John Metchie, who was traded to the Eagles. General manager John Lynch has been working the phones because the 49ers' wideout corps is in flux. 49ers' Demarcus Robinson suspended for first 3 regular-season games Kyle Shanahan touts 49ers' new vibe. Here's what threatens those good feelings All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) is not expected to be ready to return until Week 6 at the earliest, rookie fourth-round pick Jordan Watkins (ankle) may not be ready for the start of the season and Jacob Cowing suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday's practice after missing most of training camp with the same injury. Meanwhile, Demarcus Robinson has been suspended by the NFL for the first three games for a DUI arrest, although he's appealed the penalty. In addition, Jauan Jennings, who led the team's wideouts with 77 catches and 975 yards last year, hasn't practiced since July 27 due to a calf injury. Jennings' desire for a contract extension on the heels of his breakout season has raised questions about the severity of his injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has said an MRI has confirmed Jennings is dealing with a calf issue, an ailment that also sidelined him for part of last year's training camp. Shanahan has not provided a timeline for Jennings' return. He said Tuesday that it was an important for Jennings to resume practicing in the near future with the regular-season opener at Seattle looming on Sept. 7. 'Yeah, any player, not just Jauan — but people need to practice,' Shanahan said. 'They need to get ready to play an NFL season or you end up getting hurt. So, hopefully, he can get his health back so he can get that out there and start practicing.' The 49ers' top wide receivers who are currently healthy and available for Week 1 are Ricky Pearsall, a 2024 first-round pick, and, perhaps, Russell Gage, who hasn't played a regular-season snap since he suffered a torn patella tendon in August 2023. The 49ers hope Moore can strengthen the spot despite his modest resume. Moore's career highlight came during his rookie season when he caught a 4-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of a 38-35 win over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. This summer, Moore has no catches on three targets while playing 46 snaps in two preseason games. Moore had an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown Friday in a loss at Seattle. In his career, Moore has 14 returns for 86 yards, with all his runbacks coming as a rookie.
