New Delhi: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday achieved a major political milestone by becoming the second-longest-serving Prime Minister in India's history, surpassing the late Indira Gandhi, leaders from across the political spectrum and within the BJP hailed his leadership, commitment, and historic record.
Speaking to IANS, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi congratulated the Prime Minister, saying, 'We offer our best wishes and pray for his long life. Now that he has become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India, we hope he gets the opportunity to lead the country even longer, twice or thrice as long and represent India on the global stage.'
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said, 'Heartfelt congratulations and greetings to the Prime Minister. He has created history and is breaking all records. Under his leadership, the nation has become proud and glorious. The sons of Mother India are filled with pride. Today, every Indian is respected across the world.'
Bihar Minister Ashok Chaudhary expressed his gratitude, stating, 'I thank and express my gratitude to Prime Minister Modi. I pray for his long life and sincerely hope that he keeps working towards making his dream of making India the world's third-largest economy.'
BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain added, 'It is a matter of great pride for the country that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister... People across the nation and the world admire him. Today, after Pandit Nehru, he is the longest-serving Prime Minister, and this is a moment of immense pride for all of us.'
BJP MP Damodar Agrawal praised PM Modi's leadership, saying, 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi possesses a unique talent and serves the nation with tireless dedication and absolute commitment. That's why the NDA secured a clear majority under his leadership for the third consecutive time... He is not only the Prime Minister of India but also the world's most popular and influential leader.'
Minister Madan Sahni also applauded the Prime Minister, saying, 'He will continue to serve for many more years. He is a remarkable Prime Minister who is steering the nation forward and enhancing India's global stature. He has given a strong response to neighbouring countries trying to spread terror, he is the first Prime Minister to do so. He has developed the nation, and the people of the country are happy with him.'
With this milestone, PM Modi stands behind only Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who served for over 6,000 days. PM Modi also holds several other distinctions, he is the first and only Prime Minister born after Independence, the longest-serving non-Congress Prime Minister, and the longest-serving Prime Minister from a non-Hindi-speaking state.

Maharashtra awards Rs 3 crore to Divya Deshmukh for FIDE World Cup triumph; ‘happy to motivate students,' she says

Felicitating Divya Deshmukh, 19, for becoming the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women's World Cup, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis awarded Rs 3 crore to her and said that while China used to dominate women's chess, India has managed to break its streak. With her victory, Deshmukh has also become India's 88th Grandmaster. Fadnavis was speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised at Kavivarya Suresh Bhatt Auditorium in Nagpur to celebrate Deshmukh's recent triumph. 'This is a moment of pride not just for Nagpur or Maharashtra, but for the entire nation,' he said. 'China has traditionally dominated women's chess, but two Indian women, including our very own Divya and Koneru Humpy, have broken through. As an Indian, as a Maharashtrian, and as a Nagpurkar, I am deeply proud of Divya's win.' Deshmukh, who hails from Nagpur and began her journey in chess with an Under-9 title, has steadily climbed the global ranks. Recalling her journey, she said, 'Moments like these are rare and precious. I am grateful to the Maharashtra government for all the love and support.' Sharing her happiness on being able to motivate students, Deshmukh said, 'When I was playing, I thought, 'What an incredible opportunity!' I couldn't have reached where I am without the help of the Maharashtra government. I am eternally grateful to Maharashtra for all the love I have received,' adding, 'Whatever I say about Nagpur is not enough; Nagpur is special for me.' Fadnavis praised Deshmukh's discipline and unwavering focus, especially in an age where distractions are abundant. 'At 19, when most people can't put their phones down, she stayed focused and showed the kind of professionalism the game demands,' he remarked. He also acknowledged the contributions of Divya's parents and coaches, calling them strong pillars behind her success. 'She never forgot her coaches, which speaks volumes of her character.' Fadnavis said the state government had earlier awarded Rs 1 crore to Deshmukh for her efforts. 'We are ready to do whatever is necessary to support her,' he remarked, and noted several reforms made in the state's sports policies, including cash prizes, improved training facilities, and permission for coaches to accompany players abroad. 'Athletes can't compete internationally without proper nutrition, training, and support. We have changed the rules to remove these barriers and support sportspersons from Maharashtra,' he emphasised.

Sule criticises Maharashtra govt over rise in crime, alleges ₹4,900 cr scam in Ladki Bahin scheme

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Saturday slammed the BJP-led Mahayuti government for failing to address the rising crime rate in Maharashtra, accusing it of being a mute spectator as miscreants had no fear of the law. Supriya Sule said parts of the state, including Pune and Beed districts, have witnessed a steady surge in crimes.(ANI Twitter) Speaking to reporters here, the Baramati MP claimed that a ₹4,900 crore scam had taken place in the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yogana, the government's flagship scheme that provides a monthly assistance of ₹1,500 to women. She said parts of the state, including Pune and Beed districts, have witnessed a steady surge in crimes, while the government remains a mute spectator. "People have lost faith in the system. There is no fear of the law. Who is backing these criminals? Instead of looking into these questions, the government chooses to stay silent," she said. Sule criticised the delay in the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the 2022 murder of Parli-based businessman Mahadev Munde. "Only after Munde's wife, Dnyaneshwari, attempted self-immolation and met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, did the government act. We demand a fair and transparent probe by the SIT," she said. Sule also raised concerns about the recent communal unrest at Yavat in Daund tehsil, where groups of persons, angered by a social media post, vandalised and set ablaze properties. "This is a sensitive region. Political leaders and outsiders coming in and inciting unrest are unacceptable. I urge the chief minister and deputy chief ministers to control their people," she said. Sule urged Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, also the guardian minister of Pune, to ensure peace and communal harmony in Daund. "We have deep roots in Daund. Let's not allow outsiders to disturb its social fabric," she said. Maharashtra has become an example of how power and money can derail governance, she claimed. "There is a ₹4,900-crore scam in the Ladki Bahin scheme. Farmers are committing suicide, and yet the government is focused on self-promotion," she alleged. Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare recently admitted that nearly 26.34 lakh ineligible persons, including men, were availing benefits of the Ladki Bahin scheme. On Fadnavis's recent remarks about rising hooliganism in Pune, Sule said, "If you acknowledge there's a law and order issue, what action have you taken? Who is protecting these contractors and gangsters?" She also flagged irregularities in the Election Commission's handling of voter rolls in Bihar, demanding a detailed discussion in the Parliament on electoral transparency and accountability.

CM Revanth Reddy Praises Congress' Legacy and Social Justice Efforts

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the Congress Party's history of working for Dalit and Adivasi welfare during the party's annual legal conference in Delhi. He emphasised that Congress, which led India to independence, remains a party rooted among the people, unlike other parties such as BJP, BRS, JD, BJD, and RJD, which emerged after independence. Reddy criticised the current leadership under Modi, accusing them of neglecting social justice for the past 11 years and jeopardising the Constitution. He praised Congress for its 140-year fight for independence, its role in defeating the British, and leaders like Indira Gandhi, who fought terrorists and sacrificed for the country. He also recalled Sonia Gandhi's sacrifice in relinquishing the Prime Ministership during UPA-1, asserting the party's enduring commitment to social justice and national service.
