UFC 318 winner Michael Johnson aims high with callout after tying knockdown record
NEW ORLEANS – Michael Johnson is aiming high after tying a UFC record. In the main card opener of UFC 318 at Smoothie King Center, Johnson (24-19 MMA, 16-15 UFC) picked up a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Zellhuber, extending his current winning streak to three. En route to the victory, Johnson scored a knockdown of Zellhuber (15-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC), which joined Melvin Guillard for the most knockdowns in UFC lightweight history with 13. "It feels good, it makes me feel like I'm doing something right," Johnson told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. "It definitely makes me be like, 'Maybe I do hit a little harder than I thought I did.' Or maybe it's the speed, but it's incredible. Me and my team have done such a great job. They haven't given up on me, even at sometimes where I might have almost given up on myself. ... It's great to be at the top of the record books. I'm going to keep climbing and keep getting more records." Although he's had his ups and downs throughout his career, Johnson has recorded some big knockout moments, including a first-round finish of the now-retired Dustin Poirier in 2016. With momentum on his side, Johnson has designs on shooting for the top of the lightweight division, as he wants the BMF champion Max Holloway next. "I want to get in by the end of the year, hopefully soon," Johnson said. "I've been throwing the idea around of me and Max Holloway. He's one of the best fighters that's ever come across the division. I've told everybody from day one in this organization, I want to fight the best of the best. Max Holloway's one of the best. ... That'll be a fun five-round five for me and him to do."

Terry McLaurin Next Team Odds: Could Star WR Land In AFC?
There is a bigger football story in Washington than the one coming out of the Oval Office. Commanders' star receiver Terry McLaurin is looking for a new contract, and the team has yet to deliver it. With that, is it possible that McLaurin could be on his way out of D.C.? Let's see the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of July 21. Terry McLaurin next team Commanders: -400 (bet $10 to win $12.50 total) Patriots: +400 (bet $10 to win $50 total) Raiders: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total) Titans: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total) Chargers: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total) Jets: +1300 (bet $10 to win $140 total) Browns: +1400 (bet $10 to win $150 total) Steelers: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total) Cardinals: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total) While Washington remains at the top of the oddsboard, tensions are simmering between McLaurin and the only franchise he's ever played for. Just last week, McLaurin said there had been little discussion between his representation and the team regarding an extension, calling the situation "disappointing." In his six years with Washington, McLaurin has five 1,000-yard seasons, and barely missed 1,000 yards receiving as a rookie, putting up 919 yards in 14 games in 2019. McLaurin, 29, is a fan favorite who has twice been named to the Pro Bowl, and 2025 will be the final year of a three-year, $68 million deal he signed with the team in 2022, meaning if he is not extended, he would be an unrestricted free agent heading into next season. McLaurin sat out offseason spring activities and, according to reports, will likely sit out training camp and possibly carry a holdout into the regular season, unless a new deal is reached. Second on the board to potentially acquire McLaurin's services are the New England Patriots. The Pats have not had a 1,000-yard receiver since the 2019 regular season, when Tom Brady was throwing passes to Julian Edelman (1,117 yards). New England's new No. 1 receiver is Stefon Diggs, who is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in Week 8 of last season. Third on the board are the Raiders, who have had a 1,000-yard pass-catcher in each of the last six seasons. They will enter the 2025 campaign with tight end Brock Bowers and wideout Jakobi Meyers as new QB Geno Smith's top two targets. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Brendan Allen 'over and done with' Marvin Vettori beef after UFC 318 win
Brendan Allen has no interest in continuing to beef with Marvin Vettori. NEW ORLEANS – It looks like the rivalry between Brendan Allen and Marvin Vettori has come to an end, at least for one party. Allen (25-7 MMA, 13-4 UFC) and Vettori (19-8-1 MMA, 9-7-1 UFC) had plenty of bad blood heading into their middleweight bout at Saturday's UFC 318, which took place at Smoothie King Center. The two had gone back and forth in trash talk, and had even gotten into a brawl on the casino floor of the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Fla., prior to locking horns in a professional context. Allen, who defeated Vettori by unanimous decision, wants to move past their feud – but he isn't too sure the feeling is mutual. "I just told him, our problems aside, that my heart goes out to him and his family," Allen revealed what he told Vettori after thir bout. "My brother had his accident and he totally lost his brother, so I can't imagine the pain it feels to fully lose your brother. I didn't lose mine, fully, but it still hurts. His coaches started talking sh*t and told me to get the f*ck out of his face. It's just people sticking their nose between two grown men. I don't have any bad blood with him. He can say whatever he wants before and after, that's on him. He's a grown man. I'm a grown man with kids. It's just business to me. We fought. It is what it is. I think I totally won, if you don't, which he probably won't, yeah, for me, it's over and done with." With this result, Allen was able to snap a two-fight losing skid and get back in the win column. He's open to take on any top contender next, and wants to work his way back to title contention. "There's still so many fights that can come," Allen said. "We'll see what happens with the UFC, what they want from me. (Jared) Cannonier. MVP (Michael Page), Roman (Dolidze), Fluffy (Anthony Hernandez) – which is Fluffy wins he's going to continue going up, obviously. He just beat me in that decision. You have Caio (Borralho), (Nassourdine) Imavov, Sean Strickland is still sitting out there. You have a lot of fights. I don't know. We'll see what the UFC wants and what's next."
