European heavyweights make Darwin Nunez their 'number one target' as Liverpool seek to sell the striker and finance a deal for Alexander Isak

Italian giants AC Milan have reportedly entered the race for Liverpool wantaway Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan looks set to leave Merseyside this summer after making just eight starts as Arne Slot 's side breezed to the Premier League title. He had been the subject of interest from Antonio Conte 's Napoli earlier in the window, with the Italian club thought to have been negotiating a cut-price deal with Liverpool for the striker. But talks eventually collapsed after club officials failed to agree a price, with Napoli instead signing Udinese frontman Lorenzo Lucca. Now, AC Milan - who recently appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their manager - have identified Nunez as a target up front. The Rossoneri have made contract with the Uruguayan's representatives over a deal, according to Sky Sports in Italy. Nunez, who is also receiving interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, is thought to be Milan's top target ahead of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund and Arnaud Kalimuendo, who plays in France for Rennes. The sale of Nunez just two years after he signed in a £85m deal from Benfica will no-doubt help Liverpool fund their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak. Having already bolstered their ranks with the additions of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike, the Reds submitted their first bid of £110m for the striker on Friday. Newcastle were thought to be disappointed by the offer and quickly rejected, with Liverpool chiefs expected to submit a second offer soon. The Mapgies are however reluctant to sell without a replacement lined-up as they continue their pursuit of RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian has also been made aware of interest from Manchester United, and is currently thought to be weighing up his next move. Newcastle and Eddie Howe are also working on a deal to bring in Brentford's Yoane Wissa. If they're to secure Isak's services next season, Liverpool have been told it will take a bid of closer to £150m. The Swede is thought to have told the Magpies that he wants to join the league champions Isak has reportedly told Newcastle he wants to leave after reporting a thigh injury ahead of the club's pre-season tour of Asia. He spent last week training at former club Real Sociedad, but is expected to return to Tyneside this weekend. Speaking about the possible loss of his star man, Eddie Howe told Mail Sport: 'I know where he is, really, through the media. 'From that perspective, it's difficult for me to go into any kind of detail. The situation is far from ideal and is quite complex. 'I was made aware of a bid yesterday (Friday) and that bid was turned down, all before I'd even heard about it. 'People back in England are dealing with the situation. I don't know what happens next. From our perceptive, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' The Premier League season is now just two weeks away, kicking off on Friday 15 August with Liverpool taking off Bournemouth.

But as to what it is, we don't know SRU statement post-match wrote that Skeldon "is in good spirits, is undergoing further assessment and remains in good hands with our medical team."Losing 31-year-old Skeldon would be an enormous blow for Easson as the Borders-born hooker is one of his key players and Martin has played back-up to Skeldon for the last few seasons, while Molly Wright - who can play across the front row - could also be an option. 21-year-old Aila Ronald is in the wider World Cup squad, but is yet to make her Scotland winger Rhona Lloyd was a late exclusion from the matchday squad to play Ireland, but Easson said it was "precautionary"."She had a little twinge in her quad during the captain's run on Friday so we felt that it wasn't worth the risk, but it was precautionary," the head coach said.

Packer's fast start and early exit increases England back-row intrigue

As she wandered back into the home dressing room, her young son leading the way, her new fiancee by her side and the evening sun on her back, Marlie Packer had a smile on her it was perhaps not quite as broad as it might have an hour, Packer was everywhere. Hitting lines and opponents, cantering in the open and grinding hard in the had admitted on the eve of the match that this game meant a wasn't necessarily the opponents or the stage. England will play against better teams than an outclassed Spain and in front of bigger crowds than the 5,286 who filled one stand at Welford being restored to the captaincy, albeit for one afternoon in Zoe Aldcroft's absence, on the brink of a home World Cup, was a big moment for one of only four survivors - along with Emily Scarratt, Alex Matthews and Natasha Hunt - from England's success at the 2014 clearout of Claudia Pena that spelt an early end to Packer's afternoon was clumsy, rather than malicious. However, the big-screen sight of her shoulder folding the Spanish full-back's leg was a video nasty that referee Aurelie Groizelau ultimately couldn't ignore. She showed red. If Packer is suspended - a panel will meet and decide in the next few days - other back-row contenders for the World Cup starting XV can put distance between themselves and eight Maddie Feaunati, an X-factor runner of raw pace and power, had another impressive showing, scattering Spain defenders like skittles at Burton, the third member of the starting back row, was not as obvious, but got through a mountain of unseen in the squad, Aldcroft is a certain starter. Alex Matthews' enduring quality and enormous engine has made her a go-to pick for coach John Mitchell. And Sadia Kabeya's fetching ability is something that Packer, with considerably more miles on the clock and a different game in the first place, can't is never a good time to get a red card. But this felt like a particularly bad time. Harrison shows quality at 10 Outside the Six Nations, Spain are the best of the rest in Europe. But that still places them several streets away from England, who are the dominant force in the world such underpowered opponents Mitchell's concerns were for the form and fitness of his squad, rather than the outcome of the Harrison gave him a scare on the injury front as she went down with a first-half knee knock, but recovered to pull strings and pick passes well at Jones was a forceful presence in midfield, even if her partnership with Jade Shekells did not quite click as it versatile Helena Rowland will need to face stiffer opposition before it is clear whether a hat-trick shows that wing could be her home in England's the other side of the pitch, Jess Breach's top-end pace - an edge she would have over Rowland - was in full evidence as she took her try, but there were errors as Sarah Bern was excellent, Abbie Ward mixed deft hands with heavy spadework in the second row and full-back Emma Sing grew into the game, zipping over for a good try and kicking superbly for the posts once Harrison had headed is plenty of Mitchell to muse over as he crosses the Channel for England's second warm-up match against France next too will be wondering what this afternoon all adds up to.
