UP CM Yogi Adityanath holds review meeting of Cooperation department
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 19 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday chaired a crucial review meeting of the Cooperation Department, emphasizing the need to provide easy and affordable loans to small and marginal farmers.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed that prosperity will come through cooperation and called for a detailed action plan for the 'Mukhyamantri Krishak Samriddhi Yojana.' He directed the enhancement of loan distribution capacity of cooperative banks and modernization of their branches.
CM Yogi also urged to increase storage capacity and promote private investment, indicating significant reforms in the cooperative policy. Highlighting achievements, he said that in eight years, by 2025, cooperative banks' loan distribution crossed Rs 23,000 crore- a noteworthy milestone.
The digital transformation of MPACS committees is progressing rapidly, with computerization work ongoing for over 5,000 committees.
Further, the Chief Minister instructed that direct recruitment in the cooperative sector will be done through IBPS to improve services.
He also announced the construction of warehouses with a capacity of 500-1000 metric tons and preparations underway in 16 districts for the grain storage scheme.
CM Yogi Adityanath concluded, 'Through cooperation alone will the dream of a self-reliant farmer be realized.'
Meanwhile, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday addressed the Maha Sammelan on the 'Role of Cooperatives in Building a Viksit Bharat' organised by Gujarat State Cooperative Federation in Ahmedabad.
Many dignitaries, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, were present on the occasion.
In his address, Shah said that the United Nations has decided to celebrate 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives. He said that the word cooperative is as relevant today for the whole world as it was in the year 1900, according to an official release from the Ministry of Cooperation.
Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a major effort to revive the cooperative movement in India began in 2021, and that is why the decision was made to launch the International Year of Cooperatives from India.
The Union Minister said that under the initiative started in 2021 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, two guiding principles -- 'Sahkar se Samriddhi' and The Role of Cooperation in Viksit Bharat -- were presented to the nation. As part of that initiative, this cooperative conference is being organised in Gujarat.
He stated that the cooperative sector cannot be strengthened unless the benefits of the changes in this sector reach the grassroots level -- to Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and farmers.
Shah emphasized that this is why it is essential to promote cooperative institutions. We must strive to bring awareness, training, and transparency to all types of cooperative institutions.
The Union Minister of Cooperation said that during the International Cooperative Year, the Government of India has emphasized on 'Science of Cooperation' and 'Science in Cooperation'. He said that our cooperative movement which started in the country during the freedom movement had gradually declined and nearly disappeared in large parts of the country.
He said it is the responsibility of all to expand the cooperative movement to every state and district. Additionally, the condition of primary cooperative societies in every state should improve, district-level institutions should be strengthened, and through them, the cooperative framework at the state and national levels should also be reinforced.
Shah further stated that a fourth tier has been added to the long-standing global three-tier cooperative structure. He emphasized that it is essential to expand cooperation across the entire country by strengthening national institutions related to every cooperative activity, state-level cooperative institutions, district-level institutions, and primary cooperative societies in every sector. He said that we must utilize the International Year of Cooperatives to achieve this. (ANI)

Usha Vance recalls meeting with Modi, says children put him in ‘grandfather category'
United States Second Lady Usha Vance talked about her experience of visiting India and meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She shared this at the US-India Strategic Partnership forum in Washington DC. Vance recalled that meeting with PM Modi was a 'very special moment' and said that her children put him in the grandfather category. Vance also noted that though her children grew up knowing so much about India's food, relationship with grandparents and friends, they never had the chance to see it. So it was 'just mind blowing from their perspective,' she added. Further, when they were at the Prime Minister's residence, her son Ewan was just taken by the entire cart of mangoes that was available for him to eat, and he announced to the Prime Minister that he thought he could maybe live there and started making his plans. Vance shared that her eldest son, Ewan, was particularly captivated by the temple sculptures, while her middle child, Vivek, was thrilled to see elephants, camels, and peacocks. Her daughter's favourite moment was a ride in an auto-rickshaw. During the visit, the children had several playful moments with PM, from exploring the lawns to seeing bird feeders at PM's residence. Miss World contestants sing paeans to Telangana
Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Monday called upon the Miss World 2025 contestants to go back to their countries as cultural ambassadors of Telangana. The Governor was speaking during the felicitation of the Miss World Pageant winners at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day. Congratulating the winners, Jishnu Dev Varma said that the Miss World contestants may have come here for beauty pageant but they would go back as cultural ambassadors of Telangana. The Governor said that India was not only the Union of States but it was the Union of Hearts. 'I see three or four milestones of Viksit Bharat in Telangana. There is a feeling of oneness in Telangana. This is a mixture of progress and heritage (Vikas and Virasad). We have state formation Day today and people from different states live here. I meet North East people more than what I meet them in the North East. Telangana is a state that is rich in history, resolute in progress, accommodated and inclusive. There are no insiders outsiders here and everyone feels that they belong here,' said Jishnu Dev Varma. Referring to the plates in which food was served, the Governor said that these plates were made with love and care from the tribal villages. He said one should think globally and act locally. Environment is a global cause and these plates are symbols of concern for the environment, care of the environment and love for people living in tribal areas, he added. The Governor said that Telangana is vibrant, progressive, and concerned about heritage. 'We have never spoken of uniform Bharat, we have said United Bharat – When we say Ek Bharat, we need a united Bharat. United Bharat is progressive Bharat,' said the Governor. Miss World 2025 Opal Sucheta said that Telangana is a combination of culture, progress and innovation. It is a place where there is beauty in everything – whether it's people, places or food. It is also a place where world class medical innovation and technology really transform the lives of the people. 'Telangana is really close to my heart. I share my deepest gratitude and this is one of the best months of our lives. We will place these memories in our hearts,' said Opal Sucheta. Miss Ethiopia Hasset Dereje thanked for the family feeling she had in Telangana as she said that she felt like her home. Miss America Jessica Pedroso said she learned something special here in Telangana and that was, 'Despite being different, we can be united'. Miss World Caribbean Aurelie Joachim said she felt connected to Telangana. Miss World Osiana Jasmine Stringer said that the hospitality was absolutely incredible.

AAI Unveils Mega Incentive Plan To Restart International Flights At Port Blair
Last Updated: This new scheme will be in effect for the first three years of international flight operations, a crucial period that often determines long-term sustainability. To promote international flight connectivity, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved a mega incentive scheme at 13 airports which includes Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an official said here. This scheme will be applicable for first three years of the operations to bridge the viability gap for the initial phase, which is a very crucial phase for the sustainability of operations. Speaking to PTI, Port Blair Airport Director Devender Yadav said, 'As per this scheme for the first year 100 per cent UDF (User Development Fees) which is Rs 709 per departing passenger will be waived off to the airline. For the second year, the incentive will be 85 per cent of UDF and for the third year incentive will be 65 per cent of UDF." Considering the flight load of 180 passengers, the incentive scheme has the potential of savings of Rs 128 lakh per flight for airlines, which is a significant amount to bridge the viability gap, he said. Veer Savarkar International Airport was designated as an international airport on April 1, 2007 and the first scheduled international flight was started on November 16, 2024 by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur to Port Blair. But due to less passenger load the international operations were not viable for airlines and international flight operations were stopped from April 10, 2025. 'We have learnt a lot of lessons from the previous international flight operations by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur to Port Blair. Now, we are better prepared for sustainable international flight operations with this incentive scheme and readiness to swing international cargo operations. I would like to thank the UT administration for jointly taking up the viability of international flight operations and achieving a significant breakthrough in it," he added. First Published:
