Ludhiana: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised the Vijay Sankalp Yatra on Monday as a final push to pitch its candidate, Jiwan Gupta. Former Union minister and MP for Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh,
Anurag Thakur
, party president Sunil Jakhar, and Union minister of state Ravneet Singh Bittu led the roadshow.
Party workers holding flags and placards of PM Modi and Anurag Thakur walked ahead of the vehicle in which the senior leaders travelled, waving at supporters.
The saffron party also organised a roadshow in Ghumar Mandi, from where the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had passed a few moments before. For commuters, this was a double whammy as the second rally started soon after the first.
As for party workers, the change of weather made it easier for them to march on the bustling Ghumar Mandi road.
General secretary of the state organisation, Manthri Srinivasulu, walked alongside the workers, who danced to the beat of the dhol. Jiwan Gupta and Anurag Thakur received a warm welcome from workers and people in Ghumar Mandi.
The former Union minister started his address calling out, "Jo bole so Nihaal," to the enthusiastic response of people, who roared, "Sat Sri Akal." Workers also raised slogans of "BJP zindabad."

Addressing people at the roadshow, Thakur attacked AAP for its failed promises such as Rs 1000 per month to women and pension for senior citizens. He said that the state government had also failed to tackle the drug menace. He said that Jiwan Gupta had been working for the party for more than three decades and people had decided to give him a chance.
Keeping up the attack on AAP, Thakur said that the party had let people down.
He claimed that AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal wanted to replace Sanjeev Arora in the Rajya Sabha but people would not allow him to do that.
He claimed that AAP had handed over Punjab to the mafia and referenced over 15 bomb blasts, gang wars, loot, and robbery incidents. Thakur claimed that criminals were running amok and the police were mute spectators.
Other senior leaders present at the roadshow included K D Bhandhari, Rajnish Dhiman, Anil Sarin, Parveen Bansal, Gurdev Sharma Debi and leaders from the women's as well as youth wing.
Thakur steps down to manage traffic
When vehicles got stranded near Aarti Chowk when the roadshow began, former Union minister and MP Anurag Thakur stepped down from his vehicle and helped party workers and others pass. He also helped private vehicles to pass so that the roadshow could move towards Ghumar Mandi.

FEI cancels equestrian events in India due to non-payment of dues
New Delhi: In Amanpreet Singha development that will hurt the riders and the development of equestrian sport in the country, at least 24 domestic and international tournaments have been cancelled due to non-payment of dues to the world governing body, FEI, by the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI). It has been learnt that EFI was supposed to pay about Rs 27 lakh to the FEI officials as remuneration and allied charges for various events held between January and March 2025. However, the federation's account stands frozen due to the infighting among the warring factions, leading to non-payments of dues, forcing FEI to take off the events from the calendar. The EFI also needs to settle accounts for unpaid salaries, various costs of tournaments hosted in the past year and other expenses running into almost two crore. 'EFI was supposed to pay remuneration to FEI officials for various Eventing, Show Jumping and Dressage events held in Delhi, Meerut, and Jaipur. However, the bank has frozen the account due to different factions within the Federation claiming operational access,' an EFI source told PTI. 'It is embarrassing and the athletes are the biggest losers here, but that is the situation. The sports ministry has been apprised of the latest infighting,' the source added. The EFI was supposed to hold its election in September 2023 but litigations delayed the polls, following which a Committee of Administrators (CoA) was appointed by the Delhi High Court on May 21, 2024. The decision was challenged and, on May 29, the court reinstated the Executive Committee of the EFI as an interim measure, keeping in mind the participation of Indian riders in the Paris Olympics. The EC, in a meeting on April 11, 2025, without the presence of court-appointed observer SY Quraishi, decided to suspend Colonel Jaiveer Singh as secretary general of the Federation. Quraishi directed the EC to get the order approved from the court before its implementation. Colonel SS Ahlawat moved the court on May 5, seeking approval. However, the application was rejected on May 7 since the decision was not conforming to the law. 'The faction that removed the secretary general notified the development to FEI and also claimed the ownership of the bank account before getting the approval of the court. The bank then froze the account due to multiple stakes,' the source said. When contacted, Col. Jaiveer Singh confirmed the development.

Lalu Yadav And The Ambedkar Photo Controversy: How BJP Turned The 'Dalit' Table In Bihar In 12 Months
Last Updated: A viral photo of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, appearing to disrespect a portrait of BR Ambedkar, has sparked outrage among Bihar's SC and ST communities In politics, a week is a long time, and a year feels like a lifetime. It is no wonder that after last May's Lok Sabha election results, when the BJP lost 28 seats in Uttar Pradesh and nine in Bihar, the party was uneasy. A year ago, it was grappling with how the slogan '400 paar' had been used against it by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, RJD, Samajwadi Party, and other opposition parties. They projected fears of reservation vanishing, which dearly cost the BJP. The SP called it a triumph of 'PDA' (pichda-dalit-adivasi) and the RJD claimed it as Dalits rejecting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). But things have changed in Bihar, where an assembly election is scheduled later this year. A viral photo op has significantly shifted the political landscape. On RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's birthday, a follower gifted him with a portrait of BR Ambedkar, which he seemingly did not acknowledge. The video shows the former chief minister of Bihar stretching his legs while the portrait is placed on the chair, appearing disrespectful. Ambedkar is revered by many backward communities in Bihar, where Scheduled Castes (SC) make up 19.65 per cent and Scheduled Tribes (ST) constitute 1.68 per cent of the population, as per a 2022 caste-based survey. This incident has angered over 20 per cent of Bihar's population, presenting an opportunity for the BJP just ahead of the elections. भारत को संविधान देने वाले बाबा साहेब डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर जी के अपमान से मन अत्यंत दुखित है।लालू यादव और राजद को न तो बिहार माफ करेगा और न ही देश!- माननीय केन्द्रीय कृषि मंत्री श्री @ChouhanShivraj #BabasahebAmbedkar #DalitVirodhiRJD — BJP Bihar (@BJP4Bihar) June 16, 2025 The BJP deployed its top leaders to capitalise on the incident, including former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who carefully criticised Lalu Prasad without hurting Bihari pride. He stressed on the disrespect shown to Ambedkar, stating: 'I have one lament. What has happened to you, Lalu Yadav ji? All these talks of backwards were just for pretense? The man who gave us the Constitution, who gave us reservation, you are disrespecting that person — Dr BR Ambedkar! My mind is troubled. I am hurt. The disrespect shown to his photo exposes the real intent of Lalu Yadav and the RJD. The elephant has one set of teeth for eating and another just to show. Neither Bihar nor India will forgive Lalu ji or RJD ever." ये 'चित्र' नहीं, आरजेडी का 'चरित्र' है। #ShameOnLaluFamily #DalitVirodhiRJD #BabasahebAmbedkar — BJP Bihar (@BJP4Bihar) June 15, 2025 The Bihar BJP has been vigorously promoting this photo through social media, using hashtags like 'Dalit Virodhi RJD'. On Monday, it tweeted that five days had gone by without an apology from Lalu Yadav, attributing this to his 'pride". Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who is from the Dalit community, also criticised Lalu Prasad, saying: 'One came with a photo of Bhimrao Ambedkar and he wanted to gift him (Lalu Prasad). The body language of Lalu ji indicates a pride, which was reflected even in the way he was sitting. Now that this matter has become so big and you have disrespected Babasaheb, but his pride stops him from apologising." Meghwal said disrespecting Ambedkar while claiming to support the unprivileged cannot go hand in hand. 'People of Bihar, in the coming days will teach Lalu ji a lesson," he added. Union environment minister Bhupendra Yadav, who was in charge of the BJP's 2020 Bihar polls, demanded an apology. 'Bihar's citizen hasn't forgotten the tenure of Lalu ji. During Lalu ji's reign, the most amount of injustices were perpetrated against extremely backwards and Dalits…He is so submerged in his pride…that scene itself depicts his pride. That is why India's poor, extremely backwards, those who believe in social justice, know the way Lalu ji kept the photo near his leg…it hurt me too. I personally think he should apologise," he said. Five days later, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav dismissed the issue saying: 'This is not even an issue. No one has insulted anyone…" The Bihar SC commission, however, thinks otherwise. It has issued a notice to Lalu Yadav for allegedly insulting Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, giving him 15 days to respond. As the BJP goes all out in Bihar, it is remarkable to see how much can change in a year in Indian politics. An election slogan or a photo op can indeed be decisive.
