Cal Raleigh homers again as Mariners crush Twins

June 24 - Julio Rodriguez had a double, a home run and four RBIs, Cal Raleigh hit his league-leading 32nd home run, and the Seattle Mariners pulled away for an 11-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night in Minneapolis. Luke Raley added a three-run homer for Seattle, which won the series opener and improved to 3-1 on its road trip. Dominic Canzone added a solo shot. Carlos Correa and Trevor Larnach each hit a solo home run for the Twins. Minnesota lost for the 10th time in 11 games. Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo (7-4) allowed two runs on six hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out nine as he earned his 20th career victory. Twins right-hander Bailey Ober (4-5) gave up seven runs on seven hits, including three of the home runs, in seven innings. He walked none and struck out seven. Mariners relievers Eduard Bazardo and Zach Pop combined for three scoreless innings to seal the win. Seattle pounced on Ober for six runs in the top of the third. J.P. Crawford started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Ben Williamson. Rodriguez followed in the next at-bat with a 442-foot, two-run home run to left-center to make it 3-0. Four batters later, Raley capped the big inning with a 436-foot, three-run blast to center. It marked his third homer of the season and his first since April 17 against the Cincinnati Reds. The Mariners increased their lead to 7-0 on Canzone's solo homer in the sixth. He pulled a curveball over the wall in right-center field. Larnach and Correa led off the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back blasts. The sequence marked Larnach's 11th homer and Correa's sixth. Rodriguez made it 9-2 with a two-run double to left-center in the ninth. Raleigh stepped to the plate in the next at-bat and hit a towering, two-run shot over the wall in left to finish the scoring. --Field Level Media

Elly De La Cruz (HR, 3 RBIs) powers Reds past Yankees

June 24 - Elly De La Cruz homered, tripled and singled and drove in three runs as the Cincinnati Reds beat the visiting New York Yankees 6-1 in the opener of a three-game set on Monday night. De La Cruz atoned for a pair of defensive miscues by falling just a double shy of his second career cycle. De La Cruz topped off his memorable night with his 18th homer, an opposite-field shot to right in the eighth inning. Gavin Lux added a solo homer for the Reds. Cincinnati reliever Scott Barlow (3-0) relieved starter Nick Lodolo with one out in the fifth and retired all five batters he faced to earn the win. Aaron Judge belted a 398-foot homer to the upper deck in left, his 28th of the season, while Cody Bellinger doubled twice and had three hits for the Yankees. Following last year's three-game sweep at Yankee Stadium, the Reds have beaten the Yankees four straight times, the longest such streak in the series since Cincinnati swept the 1976 World Series. Barlow entered in the fifth after Lodolo labored through 94 pitches on a sweltering night on the Ohio River, where the temperature was 92 degrees at first pitch and the heat index neared 100 degrees. Lodolo allowed one run on six hits, striking out six and walking none. The Cincinnati lefty surrendered Judge's homer with two outs in the first. Starter Allan Winans (0-1) made his Yankees debut and cruised early, needing just 24 pitches to get through three innings. Winans, who was 7-0 with New York's Triple-A club in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, was called up to make the start after Ryan Yarbrough went on the injured list with a right oblique strain. Winans, charged with four runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings, came undone in the fourth as De La Cruz lined a triple over the head of center fielder Bellinger for a run-scoring triple to tie the game at 1-1. Spencer Steer followed with a sacrifice fly to left to put Cincinnati ahead 2-1. Gavin Lux then hooked a pitch from Winans inside the foul pole in right for his fourth homer and a 3-1 lead. De La Cruz singled in a run in the fifth and Jose Trevino hit an RBI single in the eighth. --Field Level Media

Stunning LSU fan who went viral at LSU college baseball game is identified

An LSU baseball fan who went viral during the team's college World Series win over the weekend has been identified. Cameras cut to her celebrating in the crowd when LSU went 5-1 up against Coastal Carolina on Sunday on their way to a series-clinching triumph. The mystery blonde went viral on social media as fans took notice of her cheering her team but she has now seemingly been unmasked by the popular social media account 'Old Row Official', who say the fan's name is Alicia Huggins. 'In retrospect, Coastal never stood a chance @Alicia_huggs,' the account wrote on Instagram, taggin her in multiple pictures from her day out at the game. Huggins hasn't responded directly to the post and her own Instagram page is private but it appears that she runs her own beauty company in Louisiana. When the clip itself was posted on social media from Sunday's game, there were multiple comments about Huggins. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Old Row (@oldrowofficial) 'I thought I was the only one who saw her,' said one post from an admirier. Another read: 'Only part of the game I remember'. 'Only thing I saw in this video,' said another. The moment Huggins was caught on camera was a particularly decisive time as LSU knocked previously unbeaten Coastal ace Jacob Morrison out of the game with a four-run fourth inning. The Tigers won their second national title in three years Sunday with a 5-3 victory in the College World Series finals. The Tigers (53-15) completed a two-game sweep of the Chanticleers (56-13), who entered the finals on a 26-game win streak. The 2023 LSU team that also won that title was led by Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews, the top two picks in the MLB amateur draft that year. Skenes is now one of the most feared pitchers in Major League Baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates and off the field, is famous for dating Olivia Dunne. Overall, Sunday's triumph was LSU's 8th baseball title in its history.
