HIV-positive girl raped, forced into abortion at Latur shelter in Maharashtra; four arrested
According to the complaint filed by the girl at Dhoki police station in her native Dharashiv district, the assaults took place between July 13 2023 and July 23 this year at Sevalay, a shelter home for HIV-infected children located in Hasegaon, PTI reported, quoting an unnamed police official.
'As per her complaint, the child had been residing at the institution for the past two years. She was allegedly raped four times by an employee of the children's home. He also threatened her not to disclose the ordeal to anyone. The institution's management did not assist her and even tore up a letter she had written to officials, which she had placed in a complaint box,' the official added.
The girl later fell ill and was taken to hospital, where medical tests revealed she was four months pregnant. Following this, the accused arranged for a doctor to perform an abortion procedure without her consent, the official said.
Based on the complaint, six people were booked by Dhoki police, including the founder and superintendent of the shelter, the employee who allegedly raped her, and the doctor who carried out the abortion procedure.
After the case was transferred to Ausa police station, under whose jurisdiction the alleged offences took place, four persons were arrested, said Latur Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe.
He identified the arrested people as Sevalay founder Ravi Bapatle, its superintendent Rachna Bapatle, and employees Amit Mahamuni and Pooja Waghmare.

Delhi man stabbed to death over monetary dispute, 5 held
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death with a screwdriver over a monetary dispute in northeast Delhi's Seemapuri area, police said on Saturday. Five people from the same family, including the prime accused, have been arrested for the alleged murder, police said. The accused and the victim were neighbours. According to police, Nafiz, who owns a shop in the locality, had an argument with his neighbours over a financial transaction on Friday night. Prime accused Sekh Islam, 27, was accompanied by his brother Sohal, 20, his brother-in-law Nazrul alias Nadem, 43, his mother Salma Begum, 55, and his sister Mamuni, 32, police said. 'We have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and arrested all five accused," police said, adding that Islam is alleged to have inflicted the fatal stab wound. ‘Beaten With Shoes, Threatened': Shivakumar Aide Slaps Charges Against Siddaramaiah Loyalist
Last Updated: A special officer to DK Shivakumar has accused special officer to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of assault in Karnataka Bhavan in the national capital. A massive controversy erupted after a verbal altercation at the Karnataka Bhavan in Delhi escalated into serious allegations of assault, as H Anjaneya – a special officer to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar – accused C Mohan Kumar – assistant resident commissioner and special officer to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah – of attacking him with a shoe. Anjaneya filed a formal complaint with Resident Commissioner Imkongla Jamir, demanding criminal proceedings against Kumar. 'I was beaten with a shoe, and it has hurt my honour and dignity. Conduct a criminal trial against him (Kumar) and give me justice," Anjanaya said in his complaint, news agency PTI reported. Jamir confirmed the receipt of the complaint dated July 22 and said that due process will be followed. In an elaborate complaint letter, Anjanaya alleged that Kumar has been systematically disrupting his work. 'He threatened to hit me with a shoe in the chamber of the office in front of everyone," he wrote. 'If any accident happens, Kumar will be responsible," Anjanaya warned in his letter. His complaint also referred to Kumar's alleged past conduct, and claimed, 'If you look into the service books in the past, he has beaten M M Joshi and not given respect to senior officers and behaved with ego as special officer on duty for CM." Anjanaya said that he had earlier sought a transfer from the Karnataka Bhavan primarily to avoid such conflicts while being posted as special officer to the deputy chief minister. The matter was raked up by the BJP in Karnataka as the party described the incident as evidence of a deeper rift within the state government. Gurugram police detain 10 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, deportation underway
Ten Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in Gurugram as part of an ongoing drive to identify illegal immigrants, and they will be deported, police said on Saturday. As reported by ANI, citing Sandeep Kumar, PRO, Gurugram Police, 'Gurugram Police has detained 10 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Bangladeshi documents have been recovered from them. The process to deport them has begun.' Earlier on Friday, Police told PTI that strict instructions have been given to landlords in Gurugram to complete police verification of their tenants before renting houses to them. According to police, many illegal migrants have now gone underground. In the absence of valid documents, they are moving towards rural areas or other cities. Police sources told PTI that on Thursday that under the drive, which has been going on for the past week, more than 250 suspected illegal immigrants have been sent to holding areas, where their documents are being verified. Hundreds of domestic workers and sanitation staff have left Gurugram due to fear of police checks and detention. This sudden exit has severely disrupted waste collection. Garbage has been piling up on the streets while door-to-door waste collection systems have collapsed.
