Zach Braff: Scrubs Revival Will Capture Same ‘Humor and Heart,' Show How JD Has Been ‘Beaten Down by the System'
ABC's Scrubs revival will do more than just 'play the hits.'
Series creator Bill Lawrence was joined by leading man Zach Braff at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas, Sunday, where they opened up about the impetus for the highly anticipated follow-up.

9-1-1: Nashville Adds Hailey Kilgore, Michael Provost and 2 Others to Cast - See Who Everyone Is Playing
'It's fun to talk to [the fans] about it because part of the burden is Zach and Donald [Faison] were going, 'Eaaaaaagle!' Like, those guys are 50 now!' Lawrence exclaimed. 'So, we have to figure out what that looks like.' And according to Braff, those discussions are well underway.
'When Bill and I shoot the s—t about it, [we ask ourselves] how do you still have the spirit of the [original] show — the humor and the heart of the show, and the fantasies and all the fun stuff that we all loved?' he relayed. 'The show was about a young doctor coming into this new world, so what is it like [to be] a doctor who is 50 and has been beaten down by the system? It's very, very hard to be a doctor today.'
At this point, Lawrence interjected and acknowledged that, yes, 'medicine has a changed a lot. In some dark, hard ways, but [also] in some very comedic ways….'
'And what is [JD's] life like now?' Braff asked. 'Obviously, you can still have the bromance, and the love, and the friendship. But coming at it from the opposite angle, what is it like for a guy who has been through this system and dealing with all that stuff for so long?' And that's what excites them as they talk more about a potential Season 10, which is still awaiting an official green light at the network.
Of course, Lawrence and Braff also are looking forward to getting the proverbial band back together. When I moderated the Bill Lawrence & Friends panel the previous evening — an event that also featured Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town), Brett Goldstein and Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), and Charly Clive (star of Lawrence's forthcoming Steve Carell comedy for HBO) — Lawrence and Braff reiterated just how inseparable the Scrubs cast has remained since its original nine-season run wrapped 15 years ago.
'We're all still friends,' Braff said. 'People think this is a lie we tell you, but we all really hang out. Bill and I go over to Johnny C. [McGinley's] house in Malibu and sit in his sauna, Donald and I are legitimately best friends… As we speak, he's staying in my apartment in New York City….'
'Neil Flynn is on Shrinking,' Lawrence interjected, 'and Sarah [Chalke] is out with my wife [Christa Miller right now].'
'We're all very close,' Braff continued. 'And so when this came up — that ABC and Disney wanted to do it — it just felt like the right time .The idea of going and laughing all day long with this group of people again, that I love so much, sounded like a really good time.'

First Came Forbes' ‘30 Under 30.' Then Came Love.
Morgan Rose DeBaun never had a lot of time for pickup artists. Then she went dancing in Nashville and changed her tune. It wasn't with a cheesy line that Joshua Lamar Shaw picked her up on Aug. 20, 2021, at the speakeasy nightclub Dirty Little Secret. It was with his hands. 'He just picked me up and moved me,' Ms. DeBaun said. That no man had been brazen enough to do this before had less to do with her immovability — she is a compact 4-foot-11 — than her reputation. Ms. DeBaun, 35, is a founder and the chief executive of the digital media company Blavity and an adviser to brands including American Airlines and PepsiCo. In 2016, two years after she started Blavity, she was on the Forbes '30 Under 30' list alongside Aaron Samuels, her fellow founder. She is now a serial entrepreneur at the head of companies including AfroTech, a platform for Black technology executives, and an author. This spring, 'Rewrite Your Rules,' her mantra, became a book about the path to personal fulfillment. A rejection of hustle culture for something more authentic is at its foundation. So was the path that led her to go dancing that night in Nashville. Binge more Vows columns here and read all our wedding, relationship and divorce coverage here. Ms. DeBaun grew up in St. Louis with an older brother. Their parents, Sandra and Michael DeBaun, raised them with what she called solid Midwestern values. 'Everything at home was consistent and stable,' she said. 'My mom and dad were high school sweethearts, my grandma picked me up from school every day.' In Los Angeles, where she moved in 2015 to grow Blavity after graduating with a bachelor's degree in political science and entrepreneurship from Washington University in St. Louis, she wasn't meeting men who shared those values. Christian rock band respond to former member's drug abuse, sexual assault allegations
Christian rock band respond to former member's drug abuse, sexual assault allegations Nashville-based Christian rockers Newsboys are responding to troubling news regarding their 59-year-old former lead singer, Michael Tait. In a post on the group's official Instagram account, the Australian-founded band responded to allegations of drug abuse and inappropriate sexual conduct against Tait while also distancing him from the band. "Last night, our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait. While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications," the statement read. "First and foremost, our hearts are with the victims who have bravely shared their stories. If you are a victim, we urge you to come forward. We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault." The quartet noted that as husbands who are fathers of 14 children in total, they were "horrified, heartbroken, and angry at this report and in many ways, we feel as if we and our families have been deceived for the last fifteen years." Tait told the band he had 'been living a double-life' In January 2025, Tait, who was the lead vocalist of the group for 15 years in their four decades of existence, offered the following in a statement: "Fifteen years ago, my life was forever changed when I received the invite to step into the role of lead singer for Newsboys. The years since have been some of the most fulfilling, faith-filled, and rewarding years of my life." "I have been on an amazing journey all over the globe, performing and ministering to people of all ages, races, and backgrounds." "The decision does not come lightly and has been a shock to even myself, but admist prayer and fasting, I have clarity that this is the right decision," the statement continued. In their June 5 statement, Tait's former bandmates, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis and Adam Agee, noted that when he left the band, he "confessed" to them and their management that he "had been living a double-life." Through a nearly three-year-long investigation by The Roys Report, it was discovered that for two decades, Tait befriended three young men on Christian music tours in 2004, 2010, and 2014. The trio were all 22 at the time of their first interaction. Allegations of Tait, then two decades older than his accusers, engaging in acts of sexual assault and grooming highlight the lengthy investigation. Latest on Michael Tait As of June 5, Tait has not officially responded to the allegations on his social media accounts or the statement from his former bandmates. As well, there have been no further comments from the group. Upon their 2021 release of "Stand," their 20th studio album, the band spoke with The Nashville Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network. It's noted that when Grammy-winner Tait, formerly of DC Talk, replaced Peter Furler as the group's new lead vocalist in 2009, the band no longer had any original members in its ranks.

‘9-1-1: Nashville' Casts Hailey Kilgore, Juani Feliz And 2 More To Star
9-1-1: Nashville, ABC's upcoming 9-1-1 spinoff, continues to fill out its cast, adding Power Book III: Raising Kanan's Hailey Kilgore and Harlem's Juani Feliz. Kilgore and Feliz have been added to the cast along with Michael Provost and Hunter McVey, and these four join previously announced cast members Chris O'Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Though the show hasn't been announced as having a musical element, as Deadline notes, it is worth stating that both Rimes and Kilgore are singers and have musical backgrounds. The logline states that the show is 'a high-octane procedural about our heroic first responders, as well as their family saga of power and glamour set in one of America's most diverse and dynamic cities.' Kilgore's character is Taylor, 'a firefighter and incredible singer.' Provost is Ryan, 'a modern-day cowboy and firefighter.'Feliz is Cammi, 'an adrenaline junkie and former trauma surgeon.' And McVey is Blue, 'a haunted bad boy, now a firefighter.' 20th Television is the studio, and the series is produced in association with Ryan Murphy Television, with Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani writing and exec producing. Raisani is the showrunner. Chris O'Donnell, Brad Buecker, Brad Falchuk, and Angela Bassett are additional executive producers. An exact premiere date is not known yet, but the show will premiere during the 2025-26 broadcast television post '9-1-1: Nashville' Casts Hailey Kilgore, Juani Feliz And 2 More To Star appeared first on Blavity.
