Manitoba to see one more day of extreme heat: Environment Canada

CTV News8 hours ago
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 3, 2025.
The extreme heat and humidity are expected to last one more day in parts of the Red River Valley, including Winnipeg, the Interlake and Whiteshell.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued heat warnings for several Manitoba communities, saying these areas will experience temperatures in the low 30s and humidex values near 40 on Friday afternoon. Thunderstorms are also possible in these communities throughout the day.
Relief from the heat is expected Saturday as a cold front enters the province.
Amid these extreme temperatures, ECCC warns Manitobans to take steps to protect themselves, including drinking lots of water, closing blinds, turning on air conditioning, scheduling outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day, and limiting direct exposure to the sun.
The weather agency added to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst and intense fatigue. Those showing signs of heat stroke, which include hot skin, dizziness, nausea and confusion, should call 911 or an emergency health-care provider.
The full warning can be found online.

Montreal weekend weather: Hot and humid days ahead

Elena Kiskinova beats the heat at Westmount Park in Montreal. (THE CANADIAN PRESS/Graham Hughes) Montreal began the month with hot and humid temperatures plus a thunderstorm watch, and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says there's more where that came from. The weekend is set to start with partly cloudy skies on Saturday with a daytime high of 27 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal daytime high of 25 degrees Celsius, though humidity won't be a factor. Things are expected to change on Sunday when a low-pressure system is slated to swoop in, bringing approximately 6 millimetres of rain in the afternoon. Although the daytime high is expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius, it may feel like 40 with the humidex. The start of the week should also bring precipitation with a risk of scattered thunderstorms. Montreal could see up to 10 millimetres of rain, with a daytime high of 27 degrees Celsius. Temperatures should stay steady at 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Montreal is expected to get a break from the rain, with sun and cloud in the forecast for both days.

Colleen Bready's Forecast: Weather warnings and watches galore

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 4, 2025. With Friday's mix of atmospheric conditions, it would almost be easier to share which Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) weather alerts are not in effect. High heat and humidity continue in southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, while wildfire smoke plagues northern Manitoba. Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) issued a tornado watch for a large section of northwestern Ontario, including Lake of the Woods, Dryden and Fort Frances. (Photo by Kat Hedges) The weather agency said severe thunderstorms could develop there Friday that could produce tornadoes. Heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts and sizeable hail are also possible. Neighbouring regions, including Kenora, are under a severe thunderstorm watch. A heat warning remains in effect for Winnipeg, southeastern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario for one last day on Friday. A cold front passing Friday night will bring relief and cooler temperatures in the low to mid 20s by Saturday. Until then, thunderstorms can't be ruled out late Friday afternoon or early evening in Winnipeg and much of the south. Meanwhile, northeastern Manitoba is under an unusual severe thunderstorm watch Friday. ECCC said thunderstorms that developed there this morning will move through the region into northern Ontario by Friday evening. Most central and northern regions are also under an air quality warning or special air quality statement Friday. The weather agency said smoke moving through the region should improve Friday night.

Northern Manitoba community evacuates for second time due to wildfire threats

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 4, 2025. A northern Manitoba community has evacuated for the second time this year as a wildfire nearby is threatening Manitoba Hydro transmission lines. Lynn Lake announced a mandatory evacuation of all 600 residents Friday morning. 'Once the fire reaches that line and takes out some of the wooden pole structures, we anticipate power being out for upwards of a month,' said Lynn Lake Mayor Brandon Dulewich. Dulewich said the fire was originally under control and being held due to efforts from the province, but recent lightning strikes ignited a new fire. He added winds are also pushing the flames towards the transmission line. 'It's not a question of if it'll burn the line. It's just a question of when,' he said. 'So we're anticipating any minute right now losing power to the community.' lynn lake fire A wildfire is seen burning near Lynn Lake, Man. in July 2025. 'We're trying to work with whatever resources we have,' he said. The town is offering transportation for evacuees and a reception centre has been set up in Brandon, about 1,100 kilometres south of Lynn Lake. -With files from CTV's Alex Karpa and The Canadian Press
