You Can Soon Shop With Your Metro Card! DTC To Launch 2 Types Of Smart Travel Cards Soon
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is set to launch two types of smart travel cards that will not only make commuting easier but can also be used for shopping, similar to a debit card. These cards will be valid for travel in Delhi buses, the Metro, and Namo Bharat trains, as well as for making payments in malls, hotels, and restaurants.
DTC has already begun the process of selecting banks to implement the scheme, and the cards are expected to be available to passengers soon.
Two Types of Smart Cards
Initially, DTC planned to introduce only one type of smart card, but it has now decided to launch two:
Zero KYC Card: Designed solely for travel on DTC and cluster buses, the Metro, and Namo Bharat trains. The card must be topped up before use.
Full KYC Card: Works both for travel and as a debit-like shopping card, allowing payments at malls, restaurants, and other merchant outlets. With this, passengers will no longer need to carry cash or change, as travel and shopping can be managed with a single card.
How To Get A Zero KYC Card
Obtaining a Zero KYC card will be quick and simple. Passengers can use their mobile number or Aadhaar number, with instant verification via OTP. The card will be available free of cost at DTC depots, Metro stations, or bank counters. If a passenger's Aadhaar has a Delhi PIN code, the card will be issued immediately.
How To Get A Full KYC Card
The Full KYC card will have the holder's name and photograph and can be obtained from bank branches or designated outlets. An online video KYC (e-KYC) option will also be available. After verification, the bank will print the card and either send it to the passenger's address or allow them to collect it. The card must be recharged before use for shopping or travel.
Revised Bank Selection Rules
The Delhi government has eased the eligibility rules for banks issuing these smart cards. Earlier, banks needed at least three years' experience in issuing National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC). This has now been reduced to one year, enabling more banks to participate and ensuring quicker rollout.
Passenger Benefits
Zero KYC cards will simplify travel across buses, Metro, and Namo Bharat trains, while Full KYC cards will add the convenience of shopping and digital payments. The initiative marks a significant step towards making Delhi's public transport more modern and passenger-friendly.

Frequency up: Metro trains to run every 6 mins during rush hours from Aug 15
Pune: Starting Aug 15, Metro trains will run every six minutes during peak hours (8 am to 11 am, 4 pm to 8 pm) on both functional routes — Vanaz-Ramwadi and Swargate-PCMC — instead of the existing frequency of seven minutes. The frequency has been increased ahead of Ganeshotsav, which is scheduled to begin on Aug 27 this year. As many as 64 extra trips will now run daily on both routes. Maha Metro officials said train commuters will not have to wait for longer at stations thanks to the enhanced trip frequency. There has been an increasing demand from Metro commuters over the last few months to introduce more trains on both routes, against the backdrop of a rise in daily footfall to 1.92 lakh. In July, monthly footfall rose to 58.5 lakh. City-based Ganesh mandals, at a recent meeting with PMC, had also urged the introduction of more trains or the attachment of more coaches to existing three-coach trains to deal with the imminent rush. Shravan Hardikar, managing director of Maha Metro, told TOI, "The six-minute headway during peak hours is a step towards making Metro travel faster and more convenient for people. This translates to 13% more service in a day, taking the count from 490 daily trips to 554." Maha Metro officials also said that after successfully conducting technical trials on both routes, it was decided to increase frequency during peak hours only for now. CM Revanth pushes for rollout of 14-digit Bhudhaar
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to prepare comprehensive plans for implementing Bhudhaar numbers across Telangana. The Bhudhaar number—formally called the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN)—is a 14-digit code assigned to each land parcel. Similar to Aadhaar for individuals, it serves as a permanent digital identity for land, linking directly to land records. The Congress govt views this as a key step toward digitising and streamlining land management, replacing outdated manual systems with a more transparent and efficient platform. During a review meeting on the revenue and housing departments at the command control centre, the CM instructed officials to ensure readiness for inaugurating Indiramma houses by the end of the month. Officials reported that a large number of these houses have already been completed in multiple districts. Licensed surveyors' reports should be promptly verified by regular surveyors to avoid delays. Reviewing designs for 10 new sub-registrar offices planned in core urban areas, the CM suggested each facility include parking, a canteen, and other basic amenities, with the goal of creating a people-friendly environment. He also asked officials to quickly address pending issues in joint venture housing projects with the housing board in Hyderabad. After BMRCL loses Hebbal land battle, landowners slam KIADB over below-market compensation
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has come under fresh fire from original landowners after the state govt decided to hand over nearly 35 acres of prime Hebbal land—acquired two decades ago for public infrastructure development—to private real estate players at an allegedly throwaway price of Rs 12 crore per acre. "When the current market rate in the area is over Rs 60 crore per acre the same land parcel is being given away to private builders at dirt-cheap price. How can this even be allowed?," the land owners asked while wondering why deputy chief minister (Bengaluru development) DK Shivakumar and industries minister MB Patil couldn't preserve the prime land for future. BMRCL, which had earlier sought 45 acres in Hebbal for a multi-modal transport hub, suddenly changed its stand and scaled down its requirement to just nine acres. Subsequently, KIADB decided to hand over the remaining land to private builders. The land owners, who have been waiting for compensation, said they would prefer their land to be used for a metro project rather than handed over for real estate development if the rate offered is Rs 12 crore per acre. "There is something definitely fishy here. When the going rate for a flat in Hebbal is Rs 16,000 to 18,000 per sqft, the govt is giving the land to realtors at around Rs 3,000 per sqft. In fact, a three-BHK flat is being sold for Rs 5-6 crore here," a land owner said. Landowners called the valuation grossly unfair, accusing the agency of putting real estate interests ahead of the rights of the original owners. You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru | Gold Rates Today in Bengaluru | Silver Rates Today in Bengaluru "KIADB is fixing a cheaper rate in favour of the real estate lobby and deceiving landowners who are yet to receive the compensation," said a property owner. The land — once fertile farmland — was acquired by KIABD for a tourism project mooted by a private company. The project never took off, and the company also failed to compensate the landowners. Another property owner said: " The project is a non-starter, and for the past 20 years, the farmers have been awaiting compensation. The authorities should cancel the real estate project on our land and instead hand it over for the Namma Metro transit hub. In the interest of the city's future, the transit hub should be built — not another real estate development with skyscrapers. Moreover, in the same area, BMRCL had earlier acquired land for the Metro project by paying Rs 21,000 to Rs 22,000 per sqft. We want BMRCL to take over the land for their project." M Ashwath Narayana, a property owner, said: "It would be better to transfer the entire land parcel for the Metro project instead of favouring the tourism company. We are hopeful that if BMRCL acquires it, farmers would get fair compensation." He added that Rs 12.10 crore per acre is an outdated rate, fixed by KIADB in 2023 without the consent of original landowners. "KIADB should consult us before fixing the compensation," he said. Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan termed the govt's move 'daylight robbery'. "It is against the interest of the public. We demand a thorough review. By denying land for a multimodal metro hub and giving it to private profiteers, the govt has crippled connectivity, worsened congestion, and compromised the city's long-term growth," he said.
