Oregon women's golf advances to match play at NCAA Championship
At this point, the Oregon Ducks reaching the match-play round of the NCAA Championships is becoming commonplace.
On Monday, with a final round of -4, the Ducks advanced out of the stroke play and into the match-play rounds of the NCAA Championships, finished at -6 for the four rounds and in second place. The Stanford Cardinal stole the show in the stroke-play rounds, shooting an impressive -27 for the week.
This is the second year in a row and the third time since 2022 that the Ducks have made it to the matchplay round of the championship as one of the final eight teams in the field.
Big Ten Golfer of the Year Kiara Romero shot a seven-under 65 on Monday to move the Ducks up to No. 2 in the field, as the team matched the low round of the day with a -4 (284).
'Very thankful for the opportunity to return to match play,' head coach Derek Radley said. 'Just extremely proud to finish with that second seed after stroke play in a really talented field. I saw some really great things from our team and I thought we really did a good job of sticking to our game plan.
Oregon will face No. 7 seed Texas beginning at 7:40 a.m. PT, with the winner moving on to play either No. 3 seed Northwestern or No. 6 seed Arkansas in the semifinals later in the day.

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback named to Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list
Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer isn't new to preseason award watch lists. He's already stockpiled nods for the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Davey O'Brien awards this summer. On Tuesday, his name was added to a fourth watch list, breaking a tie with running back Jaydn Ott for the most recognitions on the team. Mateer and Ott are currently the only players on OU's roster with more than two watch list appearances. Mateer was named to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Tuesday. Mateer arrives, along with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, from Washington State, where the pair found success together last season. By all accounts, Mateer has been the leader this team needed on the field and in the locker room, and the new offense has the players excited for what this team can do when the Sooners have the ball this fall. Oklahoma is hoping to make some noise in their second season in the SEC. After making big changes all over the program this offseason, including Arbuckle and Mateer, the Sooners need a big season in their fourth year with head coach Brent Venables at the helm. Predicting a 16-player practice squad for Broncos
Once they set a 53-man roster next week, the Denver Broncos can begin building a practice squad after cut players clear waivers. The NFL has a 16-player limit for the practice squad, but there's an exception for a potential designated international player taking a 17th spot. Broncos punter Jeremy Crawshaw (an Australian) has received an offseason roster exemption as the team's designated international player this summer, but he's a lock to make the active roster. Denver doesn't have an obvious international candidate for an extra 17th practice squad player, but the team might target an international player from another club after roster cuts. So our practice squad prediction for the Broncos features 16 players. One player who is not on the list is fullback Michael Burton, who began last season on Denver's practice squad. Burton is currently dealing with a hamstring injury and it's uncertain how the team will handle his early-season roster status after adding fullback Adam Prentice. Broncos projected practice squad Denver will set a 53-man roster on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Then, after waiver claims go through on Wednesday, Aug. 27, clubs will begin building practice squads. 11 Alabama players named to Coaches 2025 preseason All-SEC Team
A total of 11 Alabama Crimson Tide players were named to the 2025 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team on Tuesday. Alabama tied Georgia with the most players named to the team, while Texas had 10. The Alabama offense had five players selected. Wide receiver Ryan Williams and offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor were named to the first team offense. Offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and center Parker Brailsford were named to the second team offense, and running back Jam Miller was named to the third team offense. Alabama had multiple defensive players selected. Defensive tackle Tim Keenan III, bandit LT Overton, inside linebacker Deontae Lawson, cornerback Domani Jackson, and safety Keon Sabb were named to second team defense. Safety Bray Hubbard was named to third team defense. Alabama had three offensive linemen, three defensive backs, and two defensive linemen selected in total. These units are talented groups who will be productive this season for the Tide. Alabama's offensive line is one of it's strongest units. They will open holes for running backs getting playing time in place of Jam Miller. It will also ease Ty Simpson into his new role as starter.
