Where is Dina from Breakfast Television? Why the host has been missing from the Toronto show
Viewers of Citytv's Breakfast Television (BT) have been wondering where one of the longtime co-hosts has been. Dina Pugliese — who first became part of the morning television show in 2006 and later returned earlier this year — has been missing from the program for part of July. Viewers are noticing the absence, especially after she just returned to the show as co-host and co-executive producer following a two-year hiatus in June. Turns out, Pugliese was tapped to focus her hosting skills on a new Rogers program — Bake Master Battle . According to a press release, the show is a 'high-stakes bake-off with three teams of elite bakers competing and showcasing their confectionary mastery in a series of thrilling and festive challenges anchored to seasonal themes (Halloween, Holidays, Spring).' Joining Pugliese as head judge is hyperrealistic baker extraordinaire, April Julian, known from Netflix's 'Is It Cake?' Julian was on BT Friday, Aug. 1 to promote the show, and viewers heard Pugliese has taken time off from her BT role to focus on hosting the new program. It's not clear when she's expected to return. Viewers were concerned with Pugliese's noted absence, as this isn't the first time she's stepped away. Back in 2023, she announced she was leaving due to 'burnout,' and family commitment. She shared with the Toronto Star she was caring for both her husband as he recovered from brain tumour surgery, and her sister as she went through cancer treatment. At the time, she was also building her skin care line, The Care Principle . 'When I left, I was so burnt out. I felt like I was disappointing my family and the viewers, because that's my calling, to make people's day less crappy,' Pugliese said in an earlier Toronto Star interview. Bake Master Battle will be airing soon to Food Network and streaming on Citytv+. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Please try again. 1995 'Casper' movie returning to theaters in October
1 of 5 | Christina Ricci, seen receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March, starred in 1995's "Casper." File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures announced Friday it will rerelease Casper in October. The 1995 film returns to theaters Oct. 3 and plays through Halloween. The live-action movie stars Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci as a father and daughter who move into a haunted house. They discover the ghost Casper (voice of Malachi Pearson) is not an evil spirit at all. Devon Sawa appears as Casper's corporeal form. Ricci was 13 when the movie filmed in 1993, and Sawa was 15. Brad Silberling directed. Cathy Moriarty, Eric Idle, Ben Stein and Brad Garrett also star, with cameos from Dan Aykroyd as his Ghostbusters character, Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Rodney Dangerfield. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment produced the film, employing Industrial Light and Magic to bring the ghost effects to life. A new trailer features James Horner's score. Casper originally opened Memorial Day weekend in May 1995. Casper is based on the Harvey comics, which also inspired an animated series. Universal is also rereleasing Jaws at the end of August.

A Pineapple Jack-o'-Lantern Started It All
John Paul Nothaft and Sarah Margaret Berger hit it off when they met at a mutual friend's Halloween party in 2016. Both were students at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York, and crossed paths around campus, but had never spoken. Mr. Nothaft was a graduate student studying to be an organist, while Ms. Berger, a junior, was studying the violin. 'John had a kindness about him the couple of times I had seen him, so when a friend introduced us, it wasn't hard to get a conversation going,' said Ms. Berger, who came to the party dressed like Wednesday Addams from the Addams family. The two started talking about their families, shared love of cats and favorite music. 'I liked Sarah's similar sense of humor,' said Mr. Nothaft, who donned a taco costume. 'We kept our conversation going for hours. I was impressed that Sarah liked organ music.' Ms. Berger was also impressed: 'I've always considered the organ a demanding instrument to play.' They eventually headed to Mr. Nothaft's off-campus apartment, across from Ms. Berger's dorm. There, he asked her if he could kiss her. 'I had never had someone ask me so formally,' Ms. Berger said. 'It felt gentlemanly.' He texted her the next day and asked if she would join him in carving a pineapple like a jack-o'-lantern in the spirit of Halloween. 'I'm a goofy person,' Mr. Nothaft said, 'and I thought carving a pineapple would be more unique than a pumpkin.' Ms. Berger was game. 'I remember thinking that John was unlike anyone I'd ever met,' she said. They made plans for another date and met a week later to see their school production of Benjamin Britten's opera 'The Turn of the Screw.' 'I wasn't sure John would enjoy it, but we both loved it,' Ms. Berger said. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
