ReAnimator Coffee introduces Saquon Barkley roast to benefit Philadelphia public schools
ReAnimator Coffee, a specialty roaster in Philly, has released a " Rusher's Roast" in honor of Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. The coffee roaster announced the new blend shortly after the Eagles crushed Sixers owner Josh Harris' Washington Commanders in Sunday's NFC championship game. The Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will face each other in Super Bowl LIX.
The blend is now available to buy at ReAnimator's five locations in Philadelphia or online.
"It's a light, medium roast. Some would say it's a bit like a breakfast blend," Matt Scottoline, marketing director for ReAnimator and lead singer for the Philly band Hurry, told CBS News Philadelphia. "We say there are notes of brown sugar. Some stone fruit. It's a little bit floral and sweet."
Online, ReAnimator describes Rusher's Roast as the "freshest, fastest (?) blend of coffee on planet Earth. One cup, and you'll be ready to run through any defensive line in your way."
The 250-gram bag of whole beans comes with limited-edition art from Cat Park.
Rusher's Roast is at least ReAnimator's third Eagles-related blend. First, it was "Foles-gers" for quarterback Nick Foles. Then, in 2023, the coffee shop released "Hurtscafe" for Jalen Hurts to celebrate the Birds' appearance in Super Bowl LVII, also against the Chiefs. The coffee roaster brought Foles-gers back this season for Foles' retirement.
"Since 2017, when the Eagles made and won the Super Bowl, we just wanted to be part of the excitement. We did a coffee then called Foles-gers for Nick Foles, and it was a fundraiser," Scottoline said. "We raised over $23,000 for the fund for the School District of Philadelphia. It's been something we've done periodically over time anytime there was a big Eagles event. We had to do it again."
"I think we just feel really strongly about supporting in public schools. I have a background in education pre-coffee," Scottoline added. "It's a foundation that's near and dear to us, and we're happy to keep supporting them."

With Trey Lance returning, 49ers are feeling fallout from failed QB investment
On Aug. 25, 2023, shortly before the start of the San Francisco 49ers ' preseason finale against the Chargers at Levi's Stadium, the 49ers traded quarterback Trey Lance to the Cowboys. The deal was an admission of a blunder. The 49ers had surrendered a draft-pick bounty to trade up to select Lance at No. 3 overall just 29 months earlier and they dealt him for a fourth-round pick they felt fortunate to receive. After that night's game, general manager John Lynch acknowledged the high-stakes botch, the kind that can set back franchises for years. But Lynch also said this: The 49ers, who were about to embark on a season that ended in the Super Bowl with NFL-MVP-candidate QB Brock Purdy, had managed to avoid paying the price for their poor investment. 'When you put that much into a player, it usually is really tough rebound from,' Lynch said. 'Fortunately, we've been able to grow this team, to make this team better. We're very fortunate for Brock to become what he's become.' Why bring up this history? The passage of time has made it clear the 49ers hardly emerged unscathed. The investment in Lance has had roster-wide consequences that took time to surface. And they are worth examining with Lance, 25, the Chargers backup, returning to Levi's Stadium for the 49ers' preseason finale against Los Angeles, a game that will be played two days shy of the two-year anniversary of Lance's trade to Dallas. The 49ers invested three first-round picks in Lance, and they also traded a third-rounder to the Dolphins in 2022 to move up nine spots to select him. As a result, the 49ers had just one pick among the draft's top 85 selections from 2022-23, a second-round selection they used on pass rusher Drake Jackson, who was waived in May. Jackson is part of a theme. Those two drafts included 18 picks and few have worked out. Their top three picks from 2022 have been waived, four other picks are longer with the team and Purdy and unproven linebacker Dee Winters are the only slam-dunk season-opening starters among those who remain. Yes, Purdy helped the 49ers successfully realize their vision. The seventh-round pick gave them a starting quarterback on an affordable rookie contract — what they were seeking in Lance — who allowed them to keep much of their high-priced core intact. From 2022-23, the 49ers went 25-9 and won four playoff games. However, the overall lack of impact from those drafts is now being felt. By using their first-round pick on Lance in 2021, and by not having a top-60 selection in the next two years, the 49ers missed out on blue-chip prospects. The result: They now have a top-heavy and aging roster. The 49ers will arrive Saturday with Purdy and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir as their only cornerstone players who are younger than 27. They still have plenty of other talent, but many of those players could have a looming expiration date. Running back Christian McCaffrey, pass rusher Nick Bosa, tight end George Kittle, linebacker Fred Warner, left tackle Trent Williams, and fullback Kyle Juszczyk are all among the top five highest-paid players at their position. Their average age: 31. The overall lack of impact from the 2022 and 2023 draft classes was felt in last year's 6-11 season. Injuries exposed many of the 49ers' depth issues and the weakening of the bottom of the roster showed up on their disastrous special teams, leading to the firing of coordinator Brian Scheider. This season, after the 49ers parted with eight starters in March, they didn't have a host of recent draft picks ready to assume their spots. And that's placed them in a less-than-ideal situation: They are relying heavily on rookies from their 11-man draft class to make significant contributions in 2025. Last month, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said it was 'realistic' that he could have six rookies start, which was partly a reflection on the lack of competition on the roster. Of course, the 49ers' roster decline can't all be attributed to the investment in Lance. But what if they hadn't traded the No. 12 pick in 2021 to go get Lance and had kept picks that became No. 29 (2022), No. 29 (2023) and No. 102 (2022)? In August 2023, hours after Lance was traded, head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged they weren't right about Lance, but they still weren't in a bad position. 'We thought it would be Trey,' Shanahan said. 'I think we got pretty fortunate falling into still having a rookie quarterback and having him being a seventh-round pick.' Two years later, it's still clear the 49ers were fortunate. And it's more obvious the ways in which they didn't emerge unscathed.

Chiefs reveal why team kept 2024 shooting into Andy Reid's office quiet
The Chiefs made the conscious decision to keep a May 2024 incident where shots were fired at the team's practice facility, with one bullet going through a window in head coach Andy Reid's office. The incident had remained under wraps for roughly 15 months before the Kansas City Star broke the story on Wednesday and Chiefs president Mark Donovan told The Athletic on Thursday that the organization had gone through its processes and protocols following the incident. Donovan said the Chiefs decided that keeping the incident quiet after consulting investigation, communication, and safety experts was 'the right path to take.' Wednesday's report by The Star indicated that Reid now had bulletproof glass in his office, but Donovan did not confirm that to The Athletic. Donovan had also said that Reid hadn't changed his routine or moved his office since the incident last year. 'When this happened, we sat down and went through the same system, same process, and got to the point of saying, 'OK, here's where we are,'' Donovan said. 'And he was completely on board with our process and what we were doing and how we were doing it.' A bullet struck the office of Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid, in a late-night incident the team kept under wraps for more than 15 months, officials said Thursday. Police were called to the team's training facility a short distance away from GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium at 1:27 a.m. May 4, 2024, police records show. "When officers arrived, they were told by overnight security that someone in the building alerted them to hearing a noise and observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in a window," KCPD Sgt. Phil DiMartino said in a statement. The building "was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window," but no one was "struck, and there were no injuries associated with the incident," DiMartino said. There have been no arrests. "There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization," DiMartino said. The incident had not been disclosed publicly until the Kansas City Star reported it Thursday. Chiefs president Mark Donovan said the franchise is committed to safety for employees and fans. The team executive said he believed the prudent measure was to keep quiet about the incident. "We sat with the experts on both the investigation side as well the communication side as well as the safety side, and we decided this was the right path to take," Donovan told reporters at an annual business luncheon celebrating the season's start. The 67-year-old Reid is one of the most successful coaches in NFL history. At 273-146-1, he is the winningest active head coach in the NFL and is No. 4 in all-time regular season wins, trailing only Don Shula, George Halas and Bill Belichick. The shooting incident happened during the NFL offseason, with the Chiefs nearly three months removed from their 25-22 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers and four months before the start of the regular season. The Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade on Feb. 14 last year was marred by gunfire a short distance away. DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who co-hosted a weekly radio show on local station KKFI 90.1 called 'A Taste of Tejano,' was killed.
