Ally McCoist in stitches at Celtic thievery but Rangers icon wants rivals to know the truth about Simply The Best
The 62-year-old admitted he was impressed by the 2,000-plus travelling fans but made clear their trolling will be temporary
Impressed Ally McCoist has doffed his cap to the Celtic fans who roared 'Simply The Best' at Ibrox as the Rangers legend was teased over finding a new club anthem.
The 62-year-old admitted he was impressed by the 2,000-plus travelling fans who roared out the Tina Turner classic as they laid claim to the iconic Light Blue fan chant in the wake of securing a 13th title in 14 seasons.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: "I think that's brilliant, I think that is hilarious. I don't have a problem with it at all, it's a brilliant wind-up, absolutely brilliant wind-up."
And host and Celtic fan Shebahn Aherne couldn't resist offering the Rangers hero to weigh up what song could potentially replace 'Simply The Best' if Celtic punters attempt to lay claim to it for keeps.
He added: "I like that, I don't mind, well, it's going to have to be 'Next Year', so that gets it. I am having the Foo Fighters, a wee bit of Dave Grohl."
But McCoist made clear he was happy to herald their city rivals but reckons only one team can lay claim to being the top dogs in Glasgow.
A pumped-up McCoist, said: "No, no, no, we're still 'Simply The Best', but I must admit, I didn't mind that, I thought it was quite amusing.
"If you want to celebrate a draw at our place, you can celebrate a draw at our place."

Russell Martin missed final Tottenham humiliation because he'd already walked down the tunnel
A disgusted Martin missed the final goal his Southampton side conceded before he was sacked that evening Russell Martin missed the final goal Southampton conceded during his time in charge – because he'd already turned away and walked down the tunnel. The man Rangers want to be their next boss was sacked in December after he failed to translate the eye-catching football that earned Saints promotion from the Championship into Premier League success. Martin's Saints lost 13 of their 16 top-flight games under him and finally pulled the trigger on him after a 5-0 defeat to Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham in December. That was the low point for him as all five goals came in the first half, with Southampton fans streaming for the exits long before half-time. Martin himself missed one of the goals. Shortly before the referee's whistle blew, with the score at 4-0, he'd already turned and made his way down the tunnel when James Maddison fired in the fifth. Speaking after the game a furious Martin, who was sacked shortly after the game, let his players hear it. He said: "I was hurt in the first half. We did not respond very well to the setbacks as a group. We have seen that all too often this season. After the first goal, our response was very poor. "It's most disappointing because we had worked on a plan. We had a week's training and the players have been part of that process. But we did not carry out anywhere near the intensity or aggression we needed. I didn't recognise our team in the first half. " The former Scotland defender has since fronted up to how it ended at St Mary's, admitting he was unlikely to walk straight back into a Premier League job after coming up short. Arsenal issue Thomas Partey update as Jorginho and Kieran Tierney depart
Arsenal remain in discussions with Thomas Partey over a new contract but have confirmed the expected exits of Jorginho and Kieran Tierney. Partey's contract is set to expire on 30 June, and the defensive midfielder has been linked with Barcelona and Juventus. The news on Partey's future came in an update shared by the Premier League runners-up thanking the out-of-contract men's and women's players who will be leaving the club at the end of the month. Italy midfielder Jorginho, who is expected to join Brazilian outfit Flamengo, had already confirmed his exit in a farewell video posted to his Instagram last week, while Tierney is returning to former club Celtic. The Scotland left-back, who featured 144 times for Arsenal, told the club website: 'Just thank you for everything from day one. They supported us through the good times and the bad, and they supported me through some hard times as well. 'I think that's what I'm most grateful for, the times where it wasn't so good or so easy for me is when they probably supported me most, so I'm just very grateful and I feel very lucky to have the support from them. 'I feel so lucky that I've played for this club and the love that the supporters have given me has been amazing. I've loved every day here and I've learned so much, I've improved so much and I just feel very lucky.' The announcement also confirmed loanees Raheem Sterling and Neto would return to their respective parent clubs, Chelsea and Bournemouth. Sterling wrote on Instagram: 'Thank you for making my family feel welcome, Arsenal.' Forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, who earned a number of call-ups to Mikel Arteta's first-team squad, is among the departing academy players. The Gunners also announced they remain in negotiations with Chloe Kelly, who in January joined on loan from Manchester City – where her contract is set to expire – and was instrumental in helping Renee Slegers' side win the Champions League and finish runners-up in the Women's Super League. 'Discussions are ongoing, and once matters are finalised between all parties, we will communicate in due course,' Arsenal's statement read, in reference to the Partey and Kelly discussions. 'We thank all the players leaving us for their contributions to the club. 'You will always be part of the Arsenal family and we wish you all the best of health and happiness in your futures.' Lina Hurtig, Amanda Ilestedt and Teyah Goldie are also leaving Slegers' squad.

A former English Premier League manager has claimed that Davide Ancelotti would be a "great appointment" for Rangers after getting a first-hand insight into his coaching methods at Real Madrid. Ancelotti has held talks with Rangers and remains among the frontrunners for the Ibrox vacancy, although reports over the past 24 hours would indicate that the new club owners may be swaying towards appointing Russell Martin. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Rangers were taken over last week by a US consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers. Cavenagh, who has taken up the role of chairman, and newly appointed sporting director Kevin Thelwell are leading the managerial recruitment process with ex-Southampton boss Martin now reckoned to be the hot favourite. Former Stoke City gaffer Tony Pulis has backed Ancelotti for the Rangers gig after watching him up close and personal on the Real Madrid training pitch. Pulis, who managed 277 games in the EPL, insists he saw enough from the Italian to suggest that he has what it takes to follow in his father's footsteps and become a successful boss in his own right. "If they're (new owners) prepared to invest, there needs to be a lot of air in the bag at Rangers for someone to go in there now and be successful,' Pulis told BoyleSports, who offer the latest football odds. 'Being successful is to get really a lot closer to what Brendan Rodgers has done at Celtic. So it'll be interesting. They tell me there's two or three top managers involved in respect of getting a job there so it'll be interesting who they go for. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "I know Davide Ancelotti. I went over to Madrid last year doing the academy program and I watched him work. I spoke with him. Obviously, Carlo Ancelotti is legendary in football, especially in my era. But I was very, very impressed with Davide. He had a very, very good way about himself personally. I watched him coach and he was very organised. "The work that they did was very, very good. He was right on top of it. Carlo actually took a backwards step, really, in respect of letting Davide do it all. So he's worked with top players. He's been very successful with his dad and maybe for him to have a go himself. Are Rangers the right club for him?
