Inside Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato's Relationship Through the Years: From Exes to Friends
Jonas and Lovato first connected early in their careers when they starred in the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock. The pair played love interests onscreen, but their real-life romance didn't start until they filmed the sequel two years later. The real-life relationship didn't last for long, however, and the pair broke up after just a couple of months of dating.
'Demi and I knew going into our romantic relationship that it may not be an easy one,' Jonas said of their split via a statement to Us Weekly in May 2010. 'I realize over the time we have shared together that I feel I care more about our friendship right now. It was my choice to break up, but I love her as a friend. She's been there for me when I needed her. I will continue to be her friend and be there for her.'
Since their split, Jonas and Lovato have remained on good terms and have even reunited at various functions over the years. In August 2025, Lovato was a surprise guest at Jonas' JONAS20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour stop at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Lovato shared the stage with Jonas to perform several of their Camp Rock duets.
Keep scrolling for a look back on Jonas and Lovato's relationship:
2008
Lovato starred in Camp Rock as Mitchie Torres, while Jonas played her love interest Shane Gray. In the musical movie, the pair performed their iconic duet "This Is Me."
2010
Two years later, Lovato and Jonas reprised their roles for the Camp Rock sequel. That same year, Lovato and Jonas started dating in real life. Their romance did not last for long, though, and the pairbroke up in May 2010.
2011
One year after their split, Jonas and Lovato reunited at the VMAs and posed for a photo together.
2013
After Lovato opened up about her struggles with substance abuse, Jonas shared that he tried to remain by her side as a source of support.
'I really got to know her and got to see the ins and outs of what she was struggling with,' Jonas told Vulture in 2013. 'I felt like I needed to take care of her, but at the same time, I was living a lie because I wasn't happy but felt like I had to stay in it for her because she needed help. I couldn't express any of that, of course, because I had a brand to protect.'
2016
Jonas and Lovato performed a surprise duet at a concert for his band DNCE in Los Angeles.
2017
Lovato and Jonas both attended the Vanity Fair Oscars party. The exes posed for a photo alongside his brother, Nick Jonas.
2025
Lovato joined Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas on stage in New Jersey during their Greetings from Your Hometown Tour. Lovato and Joe performed the songs 'Gotta Find You' and 'This Is Me' from Camp Rock, and 'Wouldn't Change a Thing' from Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
Two days after the concert, Lovato gushed about her guest appearance on the 'Chicks on the Office' podcast.
'Honestly, Joe just asked me last week, [he] was like, 'Hey, what are you doing next weekend? Or on the 10th, we would love to have you come and perform 'This Is Me' and 'Wouldn't Change a Thing.' You've been a huge part of our journey and vice versa,'' she told hosts Maria Ciuffo and Francesca Mariano.
Lovato continued, 'So he was like, 'This show is really important to us, and we would love to have you there.' And it was so nice. And like I said, it was so healing for me too. We've been through so much together, all of us, the Jonas Brothers and I. And it was really, really great to like, spend time with them. It was really cool.'
Lovato also said it was 'meaningful' that the Jonas Brothers made sure to 'spend time getting to know' her husband, Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes, who attended the concert.
'And they just, you know, thanked me profusely for flying across the country to perform with them. And it was just so thoughtful,' she continued. 'I felt so appreciated, and it was really healing for us. And I loved it, you know, every second of it was so great.'

Quentin Tarantino Scrapped ‘The Movie Critic' Because It ‘Was Too Much Like' ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and ‘Who Wants to See a Movie About a F—ing Movie Critic?'
Quentin Tarantino has offered an explanation for why he scrapped plans to direct his script 'The Movie Critic,' which would've marked his 10th film — and his final one, if he does keep his years-long promise that he will stop helming features at that count. 'I wasn't really excited about dramatizing what I wrote when I was in pre-production, partly because I'm using the skillset that I learned from 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' [of] 'How are we going to turn Los Angeles into the Hollywood of 1969 without using CGI?'' Tarantino explained in a career-spanning conversation on the Church of Tarantino podcast, recorded in Los Angeles at his coffee shop Pam's Coffy. 'It was something we had to pull off. We had to achieve it. It wasn't for sure that we could do it. … 'The Movie Critic,' there was nothing to figure out. I already kind of knew, more or less, how to turn L.A. into an older time. It was too much like the last one.' More from Variety Simon Pegg Says Quentin Tarantino's Unmade 'Star Trek' Movie Was 'Bats-- Crazy': 'It Was Everything You Would Expect' 'Pulp Fiction:' Lawrence Bender Reflects on Producing Quentin Tarantino's Modern Hollywood Classic Quentin Tarantino Shares Michael Madsen 'Reservoir Dogs' Story During Private Memorial: 'I'm On Your Side, Buddy' Tarantino also explained that 'The Movie Critic' was set in 1977 and began development as an eight-episode TV series, a project that he had teased was in the works in 2022. He also clarified that the story of 'The Movie Critic' had nothing to do with 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,' despite rumors that the project was a narrative follow-up. Brad Pitt had been cast in a lead role, leading to speculation that the star would be reprising his 'Once Upon a Time' role of Cliff Booth. Tarantino said that there were no shared characters between the two stories, though he called 'The Movie Critic' a 'spiritual sequel.' He also suggested that he could loop back to the project should he change his mind about it, as it's already written. 'The thing about 'The Movie Critic' is I really, really like it. But there was a challenge that I gave to myself when I did it. 'Can I take the most boring profession in the world and make it an interesting movie?'' Tarantino said. 'Who wants to see a TV show about a fucking movie critic? Who wants to see a movie called 'The Movie Critic'? That was the test. If I can actually make a movie or a TV show about someone who actually watches movies interesting, that is an accomplishment. And I think I did that.' The director continued by saying that he began work on 'The Adventures of Cliff Booth,' the actual sequel to 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,' shortly after walking away from 'The Movie Critic.' The Netflix production, which is now shooting in Los Angeles, is written and produced by Tarantino, but David Fincher is directing. In the meantime, Tarantino is planning to open a play on the West End in London in 2026 before working on his 10th (and allegedly final) feature film. 'It's a little crazy to listen to podcasts and hear all these amateur psychiatrists psychoanalyze as if they fucking know what they're talking about about what's going on with me, about how I'm so scared, alright, of my 10th film,' Tarantino said, launching into an impression for his speculative fans. ''Oh my god! Oh my god! I'm so fragile about my legacy. What's going on? I'm paralyzed with fear!' I'm not paralyzed with fear. Trust me.' Nick & Vanessa Lachey's Head-Turning Real Estate Decision Shows How Much They Loved Their Dream Home
As the old saying goes, 'you can go home again.' That's exactly what Nick and Vanessa Lachey are doing with their recent real estate purchase. Let's dial it back to see how the couple went full circle with a 6,855-square-foot home in Tarzana, California. In 2020, the Lacheys moved to the $5.1 million mansion, thinking it would be the perfect place to raise their three children: Camden, 12, Brooklyn, 10, and Phoenix, 8. That was the plan until Vanessa scored a gig on NCIS: Hawai'i in 2021. More from SheKnows Prince William & Kate Middleton's 'Fresh Start' Home Comes With a Refreshing Financial Detail That meant a move to Honolulu, where they purchased an $8.8 million residence and sold their Tarzana estate to tennis pro Naomi Osaka for $6.2 million, per This is where things get a little crazy. NCIS: Hawai'i was canceled by CBS in April 2024, and it was time for the Lachey family to return to California. They bought a six-bedroom home in Encino, a neighborhood next door to Tarzana, for $6.8 million — but it wasn't the dream residence they once had. In a game of real estate shuffle, they put that home back on the market less than a year later because they were able to convince Osaka to sell their old property back to them. According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Open champion made a nice profit on the place by selling it back to Nick and Vanessa for $7.95 million. The media outlet noted that this was a private sale since it wasn't listed on the open market, and Osaka had made substantial upgrades to the property. Osaka added necessary details for any athlete — a 'recovery center' with 'a sauna, a cold plunge, a steam room, and a massage table.' She even had her workout mantras posted in neon in the gym: 'Nothing good happens without discipline' and 'If it was easy, everyone would do it.' Surprisingly, the property did not have a tennis court, only a pickleball court — so it might be why Osaka is on the move. For the Lacheys, though, a return to their old home is a dream come of SheKnows 20 Times Madonna Reinvented Fashion at the VMAs The Best Photos of Madonna & Lookalike Daughter Lourdes Through The Years 22 Famous Women Who Have Played Roxie in Chicago on Broadway Solve the daily Crossword
