Rahul Vaidya Backs Apex Court's Decision On Stray Dogs: 'Itna Pyaar Hai Toh Take Them Home'
Rahul Vaidya has come in support of the Supreme Court's decision regarding stray dogs in Delhi-NCR. On Thursday, the singer took to his Instagram stories and wrote, 'I support the honourable court's judgement! I love dogs but as Gandhi ji said, 'Roving dogs reflect society's neglect, not compassion'."
In another of his Instagram stories, Rahul took a dig at the 'dog lovers' and urged them to take strays at home if they are so worried. 'Agar itna hi pyaar hai stray dogs se so pls take them home! Don't just put an act by putting long stories on social media and criticising a courts judgement simply adding up to the feud created by the media. Loving animals/compassion has got absolutely nothing to do with this issue," he added.
Rahul Vaidya also recalled an incident when he was bitten by a stray dog in 2021. 'I was bitten by a stray dog in 2021. Ek actor ka kutta hai ye… it was a stray dog jo usne pala tha. And when I spoke to kids in that building they said this dog often bites. And the irony is ye actor Crime Patrol host karta hai," he shared and shared a photo of his injury.
While many speculated that this actor must be Anup Soni, Rahul then clarified, 'Sorry my bad this actor doesn't host Crime Patrol he hosts a similar crime based show. The point is not the actor here, it's about people going against the honourable courts judgement. The judges are not jokers they are sitting in the chair for a reason. Don't just get emotional about it and forget that this is a serious issue which needs a clean up."
What Was The Supreme Court Order About Stray Dogs In Delhi?
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi and the NCR must be caught within eight weeks and kept in special shelters that civic authorities will set up. The court made it clear that once a dog is caught, it will not be released back onto the streets.
A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan gave these directions while hearing a case taken up on its own about the rising number of stray dog attacks. The judges also said that anyone who tries to stop the authorities from carrying out the capture will face contempt of court action.
The court further ordered that a helpline must be started in Delhi-NCR to report dog bite cases. If a complaint is made, the dog involved must be caught within four hours.
Film And TV Celebs Oppose Supreme Court's Decision
After the decision was announced, several film and television celebrities took to their respective social media handles and condemned the Supreme Court's decision. John Abraham wrote a letter to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, Justice BR. Gavai, and requested him to review the order.
Among others, Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Tiger Shroff also shared a note online which read, 'They call it a menace. We call it a heartbeat. Today, the Supreme Court says — take every stray dog off the streets of Delhi-NCR and lock them away. No sunlight. No freedom. No familiar faces they greet every morning. But these aren't just 'stray dogs'. They are the ones who wait outside your tea stall for a biscuit. They are the silent night guards for shopkeepers. They are the tails wagging when children return from school. They are the warmth in a cold, uncaring city."
Rupali Ganguly, known for her portrayal of Anupama, also expressed disappointment with the court's decision and posted on X, 'If we remove them now, we risk losing our protectors before the real dangers arrive, like silencing an alarm before a fire. Sending them to far-off shelters isn't kindness, it's exile. Stray dogs aren't outsiders; they're part of our faith, our culture, our safety. Care for them, vaccinate them, feed them and let them live where they belong. #straydogs."
After the backlash, a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria, on Thursday, reserved its order on an interim plea requesting a stay on the suo motu directive concerning the removal of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR.

'Five-star treatment? Face the music': Kannada filmstar Darshan, Pavithra back in jail; 'he abused the liberty of bail', says Supreme court
NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: In a big setback to Kannada filmstar Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case, Supreme Court Thursday cancelled the actor's bail, ordered his re-arrest and speedy trial in the case, while warning the state govt against allowing any five-star treatment to the accused in jail. About five hours after the verdict came in, the actor was taken into custody along with his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda and five other accused, whose bail was similarly revoked by the top court. With two of the accused in transit from Chitradurga, Darshan, Pavithra and three others were remanded in judicial custody and sent to Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara Thursday night. Observing that persons regardless of popularity are equal before the law, a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan set aside the Karnataka HC order of Dec 13, 2024, saying it suffers from "various infirmities". Moreover, the high court undertook examination at the pre-trial stage," the bench said. Justice Pardiwala said the bail-cancellation judgement conveys a message that however big the accused may be, he or she is not above the law. Five-star treatment? Face the music, SC tells govt The top court cautioned the state govt against providing special treatment to the accused in jail. 'The day we come to know the accused persons are being provided five-star treatment, the first step would be to place the superintendent into suspension along with all other officials,' the court said, adding the HC committed a 'manifest perversity' in the exercise of its discretion, warranting cancellation of bail. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Filipinos don't know about this! Read More Undo The top court said popularity cannot be a shield for impunity, nor influence, resources and social status be the basis for grant of bail, adding evidence in the case indicates a premeditated and orchestrated crime, where the accused allegedly took the law into his own handsand engaged in systematic destruction of evidence. 'The bail order was granted primarily on the basis of the alleged urgent medical condition of the actor. However, a bare perusal reveals the plea was misleading, vague and grossly exaggerated. This establishes he abused the liberty of bail,' Justice Mahadevan, who penned the judgment for the bench, said. All seven arrested — including Nagaraju R, Lakshman M, Jagadeesh alias Jagga, Pradosh S Rao, and Anu Kumar — were taken to Annapoorneshwarinagar police station in west Bengaluru late Thursday. They were produced before the magistrate at his official residence in Koramangala and remanded in judicial custody. S Vishwajith Shetty of the high court granted the bail in Dec, citing delays in recording the statements of the witness and not furnishing the details of their arrest. After he came out of jail on regular bail, Darshan started participating in film-related events and acted in his next movie, which was shot in Dubai and Thailand. Arrested within hours of verdict Sources said Bengaluru city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh formed multiple teams, fanned them out across the city to arrest the accused within hours of the SC verdict. While Pavithra was arrested from Rajarajeshwarinagar, Darshan was picked up from an apartment in Hosakerehalli, Banashankari III Stage, around 4.15pm. Darshan may remain in jail for over a year, fresh bail only under changed circumstances
Bengaluru: Legal experts say actor Darshan will have to stay behind bars for at least a year, with a fresh chance at bail arising only after the trial in the murder case begins — and only if there are "changed circumstances. " A team of lawyers representing the state, including Supreme Court senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, advocates Anil C Nishani and Chidananda DL, along with special public prosecutor Prasanna Kumar P and junior counsel Sachin C, secured the cancellation of bail for Darshan, co-accused Pavithra, and others. "The only option left before Darshan now in the case is to face trial," Prasanna Kumar told TOI. Another possibility would be if Darshan develops a terminal or untreatable illness, or if the trial reveals insufficient material charges against him. However, with the SC directing that the trial be expedited, experts believe the proceedings will be lengthy but closely monitored, leaving the actor with limited options for early release. BOX He was cooperative: Cops When police contacted Darshan and told him to appear before the investigating officer, he told them that he was in Mysuru and would return to Bengaluru. Accordingly, he came to his wife's flat in Hosakerehalli. Darshan initially requested police to allow him to surrender before the court. But when police explained the arrest memo to him, he agreed to go with them. A large number of fans gathered in front of the apartment and also near Annapoorneshwarinagar police station, climbing buildings, compound walls, and trees to catch a glimpse of the actor.
