Bilawal condemns murder of couple in Balochistan
He said that those involved in this heinous murder are nothing less than beasts and deserve no mercy. He expressed hope that the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice. Highlighting the severity of the crime, he stressed that this is a clear act of gender-based terrorism and should serve as a test case for the Balochistan government.
The PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Islam grants women the right to marry by choice, and the Constitution of Pakistan upholds and guarantees this right.
He emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party has a clear manifesto of zero tolerance for violence and discrimination against women.

Senate passes Journalists and Media Professionals Bill
ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament has unanimously passed the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (Amendment) Bill, 2022, a legislative draft which provides that any person found involved in using 'abusive, violent or intolerant behaviour with a journalist during performing his duty – shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or with fine not exceeding three hundred thousand rupees or with both.' In addition, seven other bills were passed by the Senate in its meeting on Monday presided over by Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani. Saleem Mandviwalla from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) presented the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (Amendment) Bill, 2022 that received support from both treasury and opposition sides. 'We support this bill. All the clauses of this bill have been thoroughly reviewed,' said opposition lawmaker Ali Zafar, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Senate. The bill seeks to amend the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Act, 2021 with the insertion of some new sections including Section 20A. 'No person shall be permitted to use abusive, violent or intolerant behaviour with a journalist during performing his duty. However, any person who commits this offence shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or with fine not exceeding three hundred thousand rupees or with both,' this Section reads. Another newly inserted Section 20B reads that no person shall force a journalist to disclose any source of information which he received during performing his duty except under the prevailing law. 'However, any person who violates this Section shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or with fine not exceeding one hundred thousand rupees or with both,' it reads. The Section 20C says that a journalist shall perform his duty independently without pressure of any person, group, organisation or department. 'However, any person who violates this Section shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or with fine not exceeding one hundred thousand rupees or with both.' The Section 20E (1) provides that any police officer who does not comply with the provisions of this law in relation to protection of journalist or any other public officer who 'wilfully delays or hinders in providing or processing the information shall be punished with imprisonment of either description not less than two years and up to three years and a fine of not less than one hundred thousand and up to three hundred thousand.' The Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (Amendment) Bill, 2022 also provides for the establishment of a commission for the protection of journalists and media professionals. Meanwhile, seven other bills passed by the House were: Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2025, State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Abandoned Properties (Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, National Institute of Health (Re-organisation) (Amend-ment) Bill, 2024, Islamabad Capital Territory Charities Registration, Regulation and Facilitation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The following bills were introduced in the House and referred to the relevant standing committees. They were Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2025, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and Social Media (Age-Restricted Users) Bill, 2025. Senate polls: PTI bags six, opposition wins five seats in KP
PESHAWAR: The ruling party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and joint opposition succeeded in getting elected all their candidates to the Senate of Pakistan without any upset on Monday. Although the distribution of tickets had created err in the ranks of the PTI in the province and candidates including Irfan Saleem, Khurram Zeeshan and Ayesha Bano had refused to accept the decision of the party leadership. However, at last the matter was settled down with the withdrawal of the candidates from the polls. The ruling party and joint opposition were agreed on a formula of the election of 6-5 formula and efforts were also made to elect their due share unopposed. However, the internal rift in PTI over the awarding of tickets and dispute over the oath taking of the members of the KP Assembly elected on women and non-Muslims reserved seats created hurdle in the election of the candidates unopposed. Senate elections on 11 seats of KP today All 145 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the Electoral College for the Senate poll, cast their votes and after counting the Election Commission of Pakistan issued Form-58, the Certificate of Election to the elected candidates. The successful candidates including Robina Khalid (PPP) and Robina Naz (PTI) on seats reserved for women, Azam Khan Swati (PTI) and Dilawar Khan (JUI-F) on technocrat seats, while Muhammad Talha Mahmood (PPP), Niaz Ahmad (PML-N) Mirza Mohammad Afridi, Murad Saeed, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Faisal Javed (PTI) and Atta-ul-Haq of JUI-F were elected on general seats. Senate: ruling coalition gets 2/3rd majority
The ruling coalition has secured a two-thirds majority in the Senate, with the PPP emerging as the largest party, followed by the PTI and the PML-N. According to Express News, the PPP has secured 26 seats in the upper house; followed by the PTI, which has 16 senators of its own and the support of six independent lawmakers as well. The PML-N now has 20 seats; BAP has four seats while the MQM and the ANP have three senators each. The JUI-F now also has a total of 7 senators. The PTI secured six of the 11 Senate seats from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) where Senate elections were held on Monday. A day earlier, 25 opposition lawmakers elected on reserved seats in the K-P Assembly took their oathsnot in the provincial legislature, whose sitting was adjourned earlier in the day due to lack of a quorum, but in the Governor House. With the induction of these new MPAs, the K-P Assembly finally became fully constituted almost one and a half years after the February 8, 2024 general elections. The oath-taking of these MPAs also paved the way for Senate elections for 11 seats that were held at the provincial assembly on Monday. The K-P Assembly could not be fully constituted after the last year's elections due to a controversy over reserved seats, on which the ruling party of the province, the PTI, laid claim. The PTI, however, lost the legal battle for reserved seats on June 28. Later, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) distributed the reserved seats for women and minority members among opposition partiesthe PML-N, the PPP, the JUI-F, the ANP and the PTI-P. These MPAs including 21 women and 4 minority members were scheduled to take oath in a specially requisitioned assembly session on Sunday. However, right after the start of the session, a ruling party member, Shair Ali Afridi, pointed out the lack of a quorum. Opposition members raised a commotion and staged a protest with the newly elected women and minority representatives surrounding the speaker's dais and chanting slogans. Later, the speaker ordered a headcount in the assembly. Only 25 members were present in the house, prompting him to order bells to be rung for two minutes. However, the required number of members was not met. Consequently, the speaker adjourned the session until July 24, stating that the oath-taking ceremony would take place in the next session. Earlier, the PTI parliamentary party held a meeting in which government members were instructed not to enter the hall and to boycott proceedings to prevent the oath-taking ceremony. Afterward, K-P opposition leader Dr Ibadullah Khan, along with opposition members, submitted a petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC), requesting the chief justice to nominate an appropriate person under Article 255(2) of the Constitution to administer the oath to the newly elected members. The ECP also approached the PHC chief justice, requesting him to appoint a person to administer the oath to the new MPA. K-P Chief Justice Syed Muhammad Attique Shah later authorized K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to take the oaths. Later, on Sunday evening, a swearing-in ceremony was held at the Governor House in Peshawar where Governor Kundi, administered the oath to the 25 newly elected members under Article 65 and Article 255(2) of the Constitution and Rule 6 of the K-P Procedure and Conduct of Business Rules, 1988.
