But, in what might give her fans some comfort, it will be a musical, so audiences will get to hear her singing again when it hits screens in March 2028.
It is being made by Jon M. Chu, who also directed Wicked, so it's not hard to see how she got the part.
She will star alongside Josh Gad, who is best known for voicing Olaf in Frozen, so she's in good company.
Ariana will be back in cinemas in November for sequel Wicked: For Good.

Late on Tuesday night, Nicki started by accusing rapper Punch – who is signed to the same label as SZA – of 'bullying me on Twitter for no reason'.
In a cryptic message, SZA tweeted: 'Mercury retrograde . . . don't take the bait lol. Silly goose.'
But that was like a red rag to Nicki who posted a series of disses about the former Glastonbury headliner's appearance, before saying she sounds like a 'fkng dead dog'.
Then she questioned SZA's achievements including the recent news that her 2022 album SOS had gone nine-times platinum in less than three years.
'Justice for SZA' say Glastonbury fans as headliner is hit by more sound issues
She wrote on X: 'Does Sza think she's more successful than me? Sza, if every song you've ever done vanished right now the music business wouldn't even miss you.'
But SZA insisted she wouldn't be getting involved.
She wrote: 'I'm the most successful I ever been. GET SOME F***ING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL.'
Hear hear.
Busy Katy smugs off Orlando
HER former partner Orlando Bloom might have been branded the 'worst boyfriend ever' after he was seen gallivanting around the world with a massive grin on his face.
But Katy Perry isn't letting the pain of their heartbreak, or Orlando's smug mug, get in the way of her world tour.

The Piece Of Me singer wore this futuristic outfit as she made her homecoming at the Kia Forum in California on her Lifetimes tour.
The mammoth run of shows will see her playing a gig in San Francisco tomorrow before polishing off 19 more concerts in the US before she heads to South America.
Just one look at Katie's jam-packed schedule, which gives her barely more than a few days off at a time, is enough to make us mere mortals quake.
But given what's happening in her personal life, being busy, maybe for the best.

Love Island fans gutted as they 'uncover major reason' Billykiss and Cach won't last
Love Island fans were over the moon when they saw Billykiss and Cach have a one on one chat - but others have 'worked out' why they won't work on the outside There were tears and revelations in tonight's Love Island, as the Islanders came to terms with what happened during last night's shock recoupling. Amid all the drama, Boris and Billykiss called it quits. Billykiss was later seen chatting to Cach who had broken things off with Toni - and fans who had been rooting for the couple were ecstatic. However, other fans were left gutted as they uncovered a major reason the two wouldn't work on the outside - and it's to do with a former Islander. Boris and Billykiss met during Casa Amor and it seemed like they formed an instant connection. However, during last night's recoupling speech, fans noticed there was something off between the pair - as Billykiss didn't gush over her partner. In tonight's episode, it became evident that the initial spark between the pair had disappeared - as they called it quits. Billykiss then told Cach the news. She made it clear she wanted to get to know Cach - and they both agreed to get to know each other as well as others. Before entering the villa, it was rumoured Billykiss had previously dated season 8 finalist, Dami Hope. Cach and Dami also happen to be friends - leaving fans gutted. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter one fan penned: "Billykiss and Cach is not gonna happen cos Billykiss is his friend's ex #loveisland," while another agreed: "billykiss is damis ex girlfriend and dami is cach best friend (in case ppl are wondering why they aren't exploring each other)". "Please do not suggest Billykiss and Cach coupling up. That's Dami's ex (Cach's best friend), and he's trying to keep it respectful," said a third. However, other fans were more hopeful: "now let's hope CACH AND BILLYKISS can get together," said one, as another agreed: "pls i just want billykiss x cach." Boris on the other hand, wasted no time in getting to know another bombshell however, as he quickly made his move on Harry's ex Emma. Things went from steamy to steamier as Boris asked Emma whether she wanted to spend the night in the Hideaway, before sharing a kiss. Emma was previously coupled up with Conor, however he called things quits as he thought Emma was becoming too involved in the drama with her ex Harry. He's now coupled up with Shakira who he's been friends with from the start.

Ariana Grande addresses rumors that she plans to 'abandon' her music career
Ariana Grande has no plans to break free from her singing career. The 'Wicked' actor, 32, who is set to star in more upcoming Hollywood movies, says it's 'silly' for fans to think she would quit music, which she calls her 'lifeline,' to focus on other projects. 'Very silly of you all to assume that just because i have my hands full with many things that i plan to abandon singing & music … !!! it is and has always been my lifeline,' Grande captioned a video of her singing on Instagram posted on Wednesday. 'There will need to be room made for all of it,' she wrote in the post, adding a fairy emoji. 'It may not look exactly like it did before but i much prefer how it looks in my head.' The busy 'Side to Side' singer went on to say that she was enjoying herself by expanding creatively. 'I am having fun. i feel grateful and excited and inspired. :) finding a balance, between many projects and endeavors i love, and doing it my own way… so i'm working on a plan to sing for you all next year. even if it's just for a little. i love you,' she concluded. Grande's fans showed their support in the comments of her post. 'And we love you in all your facets and endeavors,' wrote one. 'Seated for all of it,' added another, who included a chair emoji. Grande received her first Academy Award nomination, in the best supporting actress category, for her role as Glinda in 'Wicked.' Grande's message to fans comes over a month after news broke that she was joining the star-studded cast of the next 'Meet the Parents' movie. Ben Stiller commented on Grande's casting to NBC News' Joe Fryer during a joint interview with co-stars Teri Polo and Robert De Niro. 'She's so talented. She's so great with comedy,' Stiller said of Grande, adding that her character in the movie will be 'really, really funny.' Fryer joked that the movie could turn into a musical thanks to Grande's involvement, prompting Oscar winner De Niro to quip, 'The scenes that I have with her will be singing scenes.' Grande will also reunite with her 'Wicked' co-star Cynthia Erivo for the sequel, 'Wicked: For Good,' due in theaters Nov. 21, and she will be lending her voice to an upcoming movie version of the Dr. Seuss kids book 'Oh, The Places You'll Go.'
