Telangana launches scheme to make land of 2.30 lakh tribals cultivable
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched the "Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam" scheme at Macharam in Nagarkurnool district.
More than 2.30 lakh tribals farmers will be helped under the scheme to make 6.69 lakh acres of land suitable for cultivation with a 100 per cent subsidy.
The state government will provide an irrigation facility with solar power at a cost of Rs 12,600 crore in the next five years.
The Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and ministers, released the Nallamalla declaration. He promised that the scheme would open a golden chapter in the lives of tribals.
The state government has recognised and vested rights over forest for 2,30,735 Scheduled Tribes covering an extent of 6.69 lakh acres under the RoFR Act, 2006.
As the RoFR farmers had long been demanding irrigation facilities for their lands, the Chief Minister on January 10, decided to provide solar pump sets-based irrigation to ST farmers holding RoFR lands with 100 per cent grant under a special scheme on saturation basis with drip irrigation and horticulture plantation.
The state government termed it the first initiative of its kind in the country. The Congress government made the provision in the budget for irrigation facilities for RoFR lands.
In line with this vision, the government launched a pioneering scheme titled "Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam", aimed at the holistic development of RoFR lands.
In Macharam village, the scheme will cover an area of 44.5 acres of RoFR land belonging to 27 ST RoFR farmers. The scheme includes comprehensive land development, Installation of off-grid solar pump irrigation systems and horticulture plantation with drip irrigation.
The scheme is being implemented for five years from 2025-26 to 2029-30, in convergence with Forest, Energy, PR & RD, RWS, Ground Water and Horticulture Departments.
During the current financial year, the government will spend Rs 600 crore to cover 27,184 acres, benefitting 10,000 farmers. For the next four years, the government will allocate Rs 3,000 crore every year to irrigate 1.43 lakh acres, benefiting 50,000 farmers.
The Chief Minister said in his speech that the farmers will be given free pump sets. The beneficiaries will get solar power motors in 100 days.
He claimed that the state government has so far spent Rs 60,000 crore for the development and welfare of farmers in the state.
The Chief Minister also announced that houses will be sanctioned under Indiramma housing scheme to all the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) families in the state on saturation.
The government will also provide financial assistance to 1 Lakh ST unemployed youth with a subsidy of Rs.1000 crores for their self-employment under the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme.

‘124-year-old' Minta Devi wants poll body to rectify age goof-up
Siwan's Minta Devi, who became the face of the Opposition's protest against the Election Commission on Tuesday (August 12, 2025), said she was not aware that her age in the electoral roll was recorded as 124 years. She urged the poll panel to correct it. Several Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wore a T-shirt with Ms. Devi's face printed on it while protesting outside the Parliament against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar. The Opposition leaders alleged voter fraud in various constituencies and cited Ms. Devi's case to highlight 'irregularities'. 'I do not know what is going on in the Parliament, but my date of birth mentioned in the Aadhaar card is July 15, 1990. I had given my Aadhaar to my brother-in-law who had applied online for the voter I-card two months ago,' she said. The application was made in Siwan. 'However, when I received my voter card, I did not check it. It was only when the media met me that I saw my date of birth was printed as July 15, 1900. It is the mistake of the person who has issued the voter card,' Ms. Devi said, adding that she has never voted before. She said no Booth Level Officer contacted her during the SIR. 'Those who are responsible for this blunder should rectify it and issue me a fresh voter I-card. I have not made any mistakes,' Ms. Devi said. Ms. Devi is a resident of Arjaanipur village and a voter registered in the Daraunda Assembly constituency of Siwan district. Her husband, Dhananjay Kumar Singh, is an e-rickshaw driver. The Siwan District Magistrate's office issued a press statement saying that the age shown in Ms. Devi's voter card was due to a 'human error' and it was made by her husband while filing the online form. The process of correction has already started, the statement said. 'Deputy Election Officer, Siwan, Sohail Ahmed has received the information that in polling station number 94, Siwan block under 109 Darauda Legislative Assembly constituency, Minta Devi, husband-Dhananjay Kumar Singh had filled the online application form for adding the name through Form-06,' the statement said. Ms. Devi's father-in-law Tej Bahadur Singh alleged that the BLOs were not going door-to-door for verification. 'The BLOs filled most of the enumeration form on their own. If they would have visited our house, we could have told them about the number of family members and their age,' he said.

Jarkiholi-Jolle camp regains edge over Katti faction in Hukkeri sugar plant
Belagavi: The ongoing political rivalry between the Jarkiholi-Jolle faction and the Katti family in Hukkeri taluka took a dramatic turn on Monday, with the board of management of Hiranyakeshi Sugar Factory, led by Basavaraj Kallatti, once again pledging its allegiance to the Jarkiholi-Jolle camp, delivering a significant blow to the Katti family. Founded in 1956 by cooperative stalwart Appanagouda Patil on the outskirts of Sankeshwar town, the factory was under the Katti family's control since 1995. However, in January 2025, the faction led by BJP's former MP Annasaheb Jolle and Arabhavi MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi wrested control, following the defection of seven directors. Nikhil criticises Congress over Rajanna dismissal
Davanagere: Nikhil Kumaraswamy, president of the JD(S) State Youth Wing, criticised the dismissal of KN Rajanna from the cabinet, accusing the Congress of disrespecting the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. On Tuesday, he told reporters that the Congress, which claims to provide social justice to the scheduled castes and tribes, is not treating the leaders of these communities properly.
