Bangkok's top barre and indoor cycling studios

Time Out31-07-2025
No wonder it's the go-to. In the world of spin, Absolute Cycle is Bangkok's best-dressed front row – the Beyonce of spin studios. You think indoor cycling? You think Absolute. Simple as that. The vibe gives Saturday night out (minus the alcohol). The lights pulse, the bass drops. And the choreography? It's perfectly synced to the beat. Let's just say: if coordination were a test, even the rhythmically hopeless might pass.
The magic starts before the music kicks in. First-timers are required to join a 15-minute Foundation class – a thoughtful move, honestly. They'll set up your bike to fit your body like a glove, walk you through safety tips and introduce you to the fundamentals of rhythm riding. You're not just tossed into the deep end; you're coached to swim. Then comes the real ride: Absolute 45. A 45-minute high-energy class designed around the beat of the music. Each song is its own mini-chapter, with choreography that includes climbs, sprints, tap backs, push-ups on the handlebars and even core work while seated as the instructor cues every movement to the beat. The music? Unapologetically pop. Katy Perry, Beyonce, maybe even a little Britney if you're lucky – the kind of tracks you know all the lyrics to.
Convenience is another win. With so many locations across Bangkok, it's never a hassle to show up, which means convenience is never an excuse. Shoes, towel, water? All provided. You just show up, clip in, and let the rhythm take over.

Katy Perry fined after filming music video filmed in protected area

The production firm behind a Katy Perry music video has paid a $7,000 fine following criticism over footage filmed in the dune of s'Espalmador, a protected area of Spain, without permission. The American singer, 40, shot the footage in the to accompany her single LIFETIMES in the Ses Salines Natural Park on the Balearic Islands, Spain, in July last year. Officials classified the offence as "serious" but said no further penalties would be applied due to no evidence of lasting environmental damage. The firm - which promptly paid up - did not have a permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment to enter the area roped off to protect especially valuable habitats, according to Europa Press. The natural park, which covers the south of party island Ibiza, the north of its picturesque neighbour Formentera and the sea between them, is protected for its rich biodiversity. In particular, it is an important stopover and nesting spot for migrating birds and contains a UNESCO World Heritage stretch of the Mediterranean. The region, designated an 'area of special scenic and rural interest', contains some of the Balearics' best beaches, with a striking mix of rugged coastline, forest and flatlands. Investigations began in July last year after the singer was spotted on the ecologically precious dunes of S'Espalmador, a small islet off the north coast of Formentera. The compact private land mass, of around 340 acres, has been part of the Ses Salines protected park since 1980. She was also pictured dancing across various other protected parts of the island and nearby Ibiza, both popular sun-soaked tourist hotspots - so questions were soon raised about whether it was above board. Government officials at the time emphasised no filming application had been made to shoot on the site. The production company was fined the minimum amount for this kind of offence, according to the French L'Independant publication. S'Espalmador along with nearby Ses Illetes beach, on the northern tip of Formentera have long been the subject of preservation efforts by local authorities. Boasting the best-preserved dunes on the Balearics, they offer an array of rare habitats for the area's diverse plants and animals.

Katy Perry fined after illegal music video shoot in Spain

Katy Perry has allegedly been fined more than £5,000 after filming a music video in a protected area of Spain without permission. The Dark Horse hitmaker, 40, shot footage in Ses Salines Natural Park on the Balearic Islands for her single, LIFETIMES, in July 2024. After the shoot, she faced backlash from environmental campaigners who pointed out that she filmed scenes on the dune of s'Espalmador, a protected area of land. The dune sits in an exclusion zone, where access is strictly prohibited to protect sensitive habitats and wildlife. Investigators have since confirmed that the company filming the music video failed to obtain the required permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Natural Environment, making their filming unauthorised. Perry and the crew were issued a fine of €6,001 (£5,197), per the Majorca Daily Bulletin, which has been paid. Officials said that while Perry's offence was 'serious', as there was no evidence of lasting damage, she would receive no additional penalties. The natural park covers areas in Ibiza and Formentera as well as the sea between them. It comes as the pop icon has faced intense scrutiny over her marriage to Orlando Bloom, with rumours suggesting it is on the rocks. The pair began dating in 2016 and welcomed their daughter in 2020. While neither Katy nor Orlando has explicitly commented on the reports themselves, their representatives have now issued a statement confirming their split. They told Us Weekly: 'Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting.' The singer has been spotted on a cosy dinner date with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was later seen at her Montreal concert. More Trending Earlier this year, Perry faced backlash after going into space as part of the all-female Blue Origin flight. The other women on the flight included TV host and journalist Gayle King, NASA aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn. Video footage showed Katy holding a flower in tribute to her daughter, Daisy, and gazing into the camera while floating around the cabin. After landing on Earth, she held the daisy to the sky and then kissed the ground. Metro has reached out to representatives for Katy Perry for comment Got a story? Katy filmed in July last year, and has now been slapped with a hefty fine. At the time, the Balearic Islands government said an investigation is underway after it was discovered that Katy's video was filmed in a protected area without necessary permissions. In a press release, the environmental agency clarified that "in no case had the production company" taken permission to shoot the video in the Ses Salines National Park. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Natural Environment said a preliminary investigation for possible environmental damage had been launched against the production company WeOwnTheCity. Now, it's been revealed that the production company behind the video has been slapped with a €6,001 (£5,197) fine, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin. Officials have said that as there was no lasting damage to the area, there will be no additional penalties handed out, despite it being a 'serious' offence. In the Lifetimes music video, directed by Stillz, Katy can be seen cliff jumping, dancing on a beach, and partying at popular nightlife spots on the islands. Chris Pratt dragged into Katy Perry's bitter legal row after he rented $15m home The video also includes a series of postcards from what appear to be filming locations including Ibiza and Formentera, where the national park is located. Lifetimes is the second single from Katy's upcoming sixth studio album 143. It follows the release of the album's lead single Woman's World, which received mostly negative reviews. Fans have criticised the song's "dated" lyrics, with one person branding it "the worst thing I've ever heard." "I was rooting for Katy but these lyrics are so dated it's giving 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign material. It's over," another fan wrote on X. Several people, including actress Abigail Breslin, also called her out for collaborating with disgraced music producer Dr. Luke on the song and album. One X user wrote, "The irony of having a song praising women but you're working with Dr. Luke? Katy Perry I didn't expect this from you." Kesha accused Dr. Luke of sexually assaulting her in a 2014 lawsuit. He denied the allegations and counter-sued the TiKToK singer, with the duo settling their claims last year.
