KAPs urged to boost anti-corruption promotion efforts in Malaysia
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) National Governance Planning Division senior director Datuk Idris Zaharudin said the move was important to demonstrate the government's commitment to continuously improving governance, combating corruption, and fostering a positive perception among the public at both national and international levels.
He said that during the NACS Performance Coordination Meetings held on Nov 11, 2024, and June 10 this year, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had underscored the need for greater promotion and publicity.
According to him, NACS, like the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP), was recognised as one of the contributing factors in enhancing Malaysia's ranking in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), in line with the aspirations of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
'The establishment of the CPI Special Task Force, chaired by Shamsul Azri, is a positive step towards monitoring and improving the country's score, while also reflecting continuous efforts by all parties, not just the MACC, to combat corruption effectively and restore public confidence in government institutions,' he said while chairing the Joint Engagement Session with 19 KAPs here on Tuesday (July 22).
Meanwhile, Idris said the MACC chief commissioner had congratulated nine KAPs, including the commission itself, for successfully completing the implementation of 10 sub-strategies under their respective scopes of responsibility.
'Five sub-strategies were successfully completed in 2024, while the remaining five were completed by 30 June,' he said.
On July 9, Idris chaired the CPI Special Task Force Pre-Council Meeting in preparation for the main meeting, which was chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government on July 15.
The meeting on 15 July was also attended by Azam and members of the CPI Special Task Force, comprising secretaries-general of ministries, heads of departments and government agencies, as well as representatives from Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) and appointed experts. - Bernama

13MP: Education that upholds human dignity
THE Association for Welfare, Community and Dialogue (ACID) welcomes the assertion by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is not a conventional government blueprint but a concerted endeavour to embody the people's aspirations and driven by the priority of upholding human dignity. He added that 'To realise this aspiration, the Government will build a social system that guarantees a decent and dignified life, not merely focused on access and material achievements, but one that reinforces the spiritual foundation, human values, and intellectual excellence of every citizen. The prime minister's desire to uphold human dignity seems to contradict the preoccupation of Malaysian major political parties and politicians on ethno-religious grievances and aspirations. On the other hand while the aspiration to uphold human dignity, reinforcing spiritual, human values and intellectual excellence is noble, the prime minister has not laid out in practical terms how such a vision will materialise in a society that is very much conscious of ethno-religious identity that tends to be sectarian and dominating. The younger generation are currently trapped by politics of ethnicity and religion of the major parties which does not reflect the broader dimension of human dignity. The respect for human dignity in essence has a broad dimension of solidarity and respect for the dignity and rights of those who are poor and marginalised irrespective of race and religion. No communities will feel marginalised in this context. Such an understanding begins when education is not reduced to a utilitarian, sectarian and materialistic concept. One has to progressively interpret the Rukun negara principle in the belief of God from the current static and conservative worldview that focuses on a particular religion to a broader world view of divine inclusivity that embraces all communities. It is a pity that major ethno-religious-centric parties like UMNO and PAS continue to use race religion as a political bait that projects the belief in God in the Rukun Negara among sectarian lines. In this regard it is vital that the Malaysian school and university education be transformed in reference to the belief in God in the Rukun Negara that empowers metaphysical education that embraces universal spiritual values that is embodied by major religions in the world. Philosophy, spiritual contemplation, peacemaking, human solidarity and ecological integration should be core subjects that reflect the belief in God. ACID believes that such an approach is the best way to reinforce the Malaysian spiritual foundation as stated by the prime minister. A right balance between metaphysical and utilitarian education is crucial for a harmonious society built on mercy, justice, peace and solidarity. Therefore it is hoped the current Malaysian government would transform our education in the spirit of Rukun Negara that respects human dignity. The belief in God cannot be separated from the importance of upholding human dignity. Upholding human dignity is about loving our fellow human being irrespective of race and religion. This would nurture the younger generation to be more conscious of others and instead of being trapped or caved in ethno-religious cocoons. MACC helps government prevent future leakages

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 6): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is not only tasked with fighting corruption but also plays a vital role in helping the government prevent future leakages, said MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Datuk Sri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya. He said the Sabah State Government's efforts to curb leakages, for example, will bring wide-ranging impacts if done systematically. 'The direction in this state is not only to prevent corruption, but we must also think about how to help the State Government curb leakages so that the impact is long-lasting,' he said. Ahmad Khusairi said this after witnessing the handing over of duties for the Sabah MACC director post from outgoing director Datuk Karunanithy Y. Subbiah to Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex here on Wednesday. Mohd Fuad, who previously served as Penang MACC director, will officially take over as Sabah MACC director on August 15. Karunanithy has been appointed as the new Penang MACC director. Ahmad Khusairi praised Karunanithy's contributions, saying he played a pivotal role in strengthening public trust in MACC and successfully led several major operations during his tenure in Sabah. 'He has shown extraordinary commitment, firm and strategic leadership, and managed to overcome various major challenges throughout his service here,' he added. He also expressed confidence that the appointment of Mohd Fuad, a Sabahan, would further strengthen the commission's anti-corruption agenda in the state. In his farewell speech, Karunanithy said the success of the Sabah MACC during his tenure was due to strategic collaboration with federal and state departments, as well as media partners. 'I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the Sabah State Government, especially Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr. Haji Safar Untong for supporting all initiatives — whether in operations, prevention, or governance reforms — proposed during my tenure,' he said. Karunanithy, who served as Sabah MACC director for five years and 11 months since September 17, 2019, urged MACC staff to continue upholding a work culture rooted in integrity and professionalism. Also present at the event were Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Seri Haji Rosli Isa, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, and Kota Kinabalu City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Haji Sabin Samitah.
