Sinéad O'Connor Biopic in Works
A Sinéad O'Connor biopic is in development.
According to Variety, the film will tell the story of the early life and career of the iconic Irish musician, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 56.
Behind the project is Irish production company ie: entertainment, which executive produced the critically acclaimed O'Connor documentary 'Nothing Compares' (and worked with the singer in the process), alongside fellow Irish banner Nine Daughters ('God's Creatures,' 'Lady Macbeth') and See-Saw Films ('Slow Horses,' 'The Power of the Dog').

The film — which is understood to have been in the works since 2022's 'Nothing Compares' documentary — is being directed by Josephine Decker ('Shirley'), working from a script by Irish writer Stacey Gregg.
Nine Daughters founder Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly and the Oscar-winning duo of Iain Canning and Emile Sherman ('The King's Speech,' 'Lion') from See-Saw will produce, as will Neil Chordia (Urban Hymn), with music heavyweight Tim Clark serving as executive producer on behalf of ie: entertainment. BBC Film is funding the film's development.
O'Connor became one of the most legendary figures in Irish cultural history and a trailblazer for women across the world.
At 23, she won a Grammy for her sophomore album 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got,' which spent six weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard chart in 1990 and contained the hit single 'Nothing Compares 2 U,' one of the biggest selling songs of the year.
The album and single amassed multiple global music accolades, including a Billboard and Brit Award, while O'Connor became the first woman to win MTV Video of the Year.
Alongside her music, O'Connor was a passionate campaigner, activist and, as she described it, 'protest singer,' using her platform to denounce issues such as sexism in the music business and corruption within the Catholic Church.
During a 1992 appearance on 'Saturday Night Live,' she famously tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II, sparking a wave of condemnation.
The biopic will explore O'Connor's early life and beginnings in the music industry.
It will look to tell the story of how one young woman from Dublin took on the world, examining how her global fame may have been built on her talent, but her name became synonymous with her efforts to draw attention to the crimes committed by the Catholic Church and the Irish state.
Full credits for the biopic include Decker as director, Gregg as writer and O'Reilly, Chordia, Canning and Sherman as producers.
The project is a See-Saw Films, Nine Daughters and ie: entertainment production. Ie: entertainment co-founder Clark will executive produce, alongside See-Saw Film's joint managing director Simon Gillis and BBC Film commissioning executive Kristin Irving.

Cairo Design Week Returns With 3rd Edition This November
Come for the installations. Stay for the conversations. Leave seeing the city – and yourself – a little differently. From November 20th to 29th, 2025, Cairo will once again swap traffic horns for conversations about material textures, architectural lines, and the role of design in everyday life. Key districts – Heliopolis, Downtown Cairo, and Zamalek – will each host their own programme of exhibitions, installations, talks, and experiences, from monumental showcases in restored heritage spaces to contemporary interventions in cultural venues. Visitors can plot a full-day trail across the map or simply drop into whatever sparks their curiosity along the way. Cairo Design Week (CDW) is where Egypt's creative pulse goes public. Once a year, the city's streets, villas, courtyards, and historic landmarks are taken over by design. It's about sparking conversations, inspiring the next generation, and proving that design can shape how we live, think, and connect. Since launching in 2022, CDW has evolved from a daring neighbourhood experiment in Heliopolis to one of the region's most talked-about cultural events — and now, a proud member of the World Design Weeks network. It has put Egypt's design scene on the international map, created opportunities for emerging talents to stand alongside established names, and drawn thousands of visitors who might never have stepped inside a gallery before. Along the way, it has helped shift perceptions of design from a niche profession to a civic and cultural force. The first edition transformed Heliopolis into an open-air design district. The second built on that momentum, stretching across Downtown Cairo's Belle Époque landmarks and the historic Citadel, while sending ripples through Maadi and Zamalek. Both years proved what the organisers suspected from the start: Cairo Design Week isn't just for designers – it's for everyone. Families strolled through heritage villas, students sketched installations on café napkins, and curious passersby found themselves in deep discussions about the curve of a chair leg or the way a colour changes in natural light. The 2025 edition launches CDW's first official campaign: Design, So I Can See You . Borrowing from Socrates' words, the theme redefines design not as decoration, but as a way of revealing identity, intention, and thought. It's about how a space can make someone feel seen, how a garment carries a story, how a well-crafted object quietly changes the way we move and interact with the world. As Founder Hisham Mahdy puts it, 'We want people to have conversations about what it means to be a designer. Design is in everything around us, whether it's a building or a bag – we design to spread happiness.' Whether you're an established studio, an emerging creative, a curious visitor, or a brand looking to align with Egypt's biggest design moment, participation is open via the 'Be Part' section on the official Cairo Design Week website. Many events are open to the public; others require pre-registration – but all are designed to spark interaction, conversation, and that wonderful feeling of seeing (and being seen) through design. Laila Elwy Involved in Car Accident
Yara Sameh Veteran Egyptian actress Laila Elwy was recently involved in a car accident. The accident occurred two days ago when the acclaimed actress was making her way to Egypt's North Coast. Elwy sustained bruises and contusions to her shoulder and neck, as well as surface injuries and scratches. The car was also significantly damaged. The actress's manager reassured fans of her well being and noted that her health is improving significantly. The manager added that she is undergoing a period of rest and recovery. Elwy, born on January 4, 1962, made her acting debut at a young age in children's programming "Abla Fadeela" on the Radio and "Mama Samiha" on television. Laila took small parts in films as a child and performed in several titles. Late Egyptian actor, Nour El-Sherif discovered her acting skills while she was performing on stage. She co-starred in her first role in a drama in the TV series 'Dimoo' Fawq al-Haqiqa' (Tears Over the Truth).
