Zara Qairina's mum to give phone with audio clips to Kota Kinabalu police
Lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, who represent 45-year-old Noraidah Lamat, said the move aims to assist police in completing their investigation following the return of the investigation papers by the Attorney General's Chambers yesterday, Sinar Harian reported.
"We thank the Attorney General's Chambers for returning the initial full investigation report related to Zara's death to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) yesterday, along with instructions to complete several specific matters before further action is taken," the lawyers said in a joint statement.
The lawyers also expressed hope that the return of the investigation papers would be followed by the steps requested in a letter they sent to Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
"This action aligns with one of the four requests we made in the 5 August 2025 letter to the Attorney General," they added.
They further urged that the other three requests be included in the instructions — namely, that the case be handled by an experienced investigator from Bukit Aman, that Zara's grave be exhumed for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death, and that an inquest be held to assess whether there was criminal involvement.
Zara Qairina, 13, reportedly fell from the third floor of her school dormitory in Papar on July 16 and was pronounced dead the following day, amid widespread public concern over allegations that her death may have involved school bullying and a cover-up.

Solidarity rally for Zara Qairina continues in Sipitang, Labuan
More than 3,000 people from all walks of life turned up for a solidarity rally at the Labuan Food Court car park to demand justice for Zara Qairina Mahathir.-Bernama photo KOTA KINABALU (Aug 10): The solidarity rally for Zara Qairina Mahathir continued in Sipitang and Labuan on Sunday. Around 5,000 people from Sipitang district joined by participants from Sarawak, Labuan and Brunei, gathered at the Sipitang Esplanade to seek justice for Zara Qairina as her exhumed body underwent post-mortem at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu. They were dressed in white and carried banners, state flags and placards bearing the hashtag #justice4zara. A representative of the organisers, Dayang Nor Syafiqah Abdul Hamid, said the turnout exceeded their expectations despite the rains.. 'Today, we held a peaceful solidarity gathering for the late Zara Qairina in Sipitang — her birthplace and where she grew up. We estimate around 5,000 people came from across the district and Sabah, as well as from Brunei, Sarawak and Labuan. 'This far exceeds our original target, which was only about 2,000 to 3,000 participants,' she said. Dayang Nor Syafiqah added that she and her group of eight organisers hoped a transparent investigation would be carried out in the name of justice for Zara Qairina. 'We are hoping for a transparent outcome, especially as the post-mortem is currently being conducted. All we want is justice for the late Zara Qairina,' she said. In Labuan, more than 3,000 people from all walks of life turned up on Sunday for a solidarity rally at the Labuan Food Court. It coincided with the Labuan Bike event and was organised by Kelab Wanita Sejahtera and led by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Rafi Ali Hassan. The event drew a rare display of unity as local political leaders, including from PKR and Warisan, took to the stage to deliver impassioned speeches calling for truth, justice, and an end to violence against children. Many participants wore black attire and carried placards bearing Zara's name, 'Justice for Zara Qairina and 'Stop Bullying'. Mohd Rafi described the turnout as a powerful show of solidarity that transcended political and social lines. 'This is more than a political or social issue, it is a human one. We stand united in demanding justice for Zara,' he said in his address to the crowd. In Papar, the heavy rain on Saturday night failed to stop around 5,000 people from gathering at the Benoni Commercial Centre compound for the Himpunan Aman Solidariti Zara Qairina Organising chairman Azrul Ibrahim, from Komuniti Anak Muda Papar, called the rally a clear demand for justice. 'This peaceful assembly reflects the public's desire — especially in Papar — to uncover the truth behind Zara Qairina's death,' he said. 'We urge authorities to expedite the investigation and ensure accountability if misconduct is found.' On Friday night, thousands gathered in Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Semporna to demand justice for the 13-year-student as public outcries and allegations grew that she was the victim of bullying, leading to her untimely death.

Police detain doctor's wife and sons, seize RM420,000 worth of cannabis at Kelantan home
KOTA BHARU, Aug 10 — Two men, the sons of a doctor, and their mother have been detained in connection with the seizure of 35 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis and a pistol in a raid at a house in Kampung But, Ketereh here yesterday. Kelantan Police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the stepbrothers, aged 24 and 34, who work as assistants at their father's clinic, and the 46-year-old housewife were picked up at 4.30am. 'Checks at the house found six boxes containing compressed blocks of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis and two bags containing the same drug weighing 35kg, worth about RM299,590. 'Also seized was a Glock pistol with 16 bullets and a casing, estimated to be worth RM5,000,' he told a press conference at the Kelantan Police Contingent headquarters here today. Mohd Yusoff said four vehicles — a BMW 523i, a Mercedes-Benz C200, a Perodua Bezza and a Naza Ria — worth a total of RM116,000 were also confiscated, bringing the total estimated value of the seizures to RM420,000. Mohd Yusoff said the syndicate is believed to have been active since 2023, using the house as storage before distributing the drugs via courier services. The quantity seized could supply about 35,000 addicts. 'The men tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine while their mother tested negative,' he said, adding that all suspects have been remanded for seven days starting August 6 for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. In a separate case, Mohd Yusoff said the General Operations Force Battalion 7 seized a revolver, 30 live bullets and a casing from a Thai couple at a house in Pengkalan Kubor on July 25. The married couple, aged 40 and 30, did not possess a valid firearms licence and had entered Malaysia illegally. He said they were detained for investigation under the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.— Bernama
