Caitlin Clark still doesn't have a timetable to return but has no additional damage to groin
Clark will continue to work with the Fever's medical team on her recovery, the team said, prioritizing her long-term health and well-being. No further details will be provided at this time, the team said, and any updates will be provided once available.
'These soft tissue injuries sometimes nag until you can actually have time to really allow them to heal in the offseason,' Fever coach Stephanie White said on July 20, before Clark met with additional doctors. 'So we'll just take it one day at a time and as they come, and this group will continue to progress together.'
That right groin injury was Clark's fourth muscle injury of the season. She first missed the Fever's preseason opener with quad tightness, then strained her quad on May 24 and missed two weeks, amounting to five games. Two weeks after her return from the quad injury, she suffered a left groin injury on June 25, keeping her out for another two weeks and four regular-season games.
Caitlin Clark may be out for a bit. How do Fever adjust without her?
This most recent injury came against the Connecticut Sun, and the pain was evident on her face. She grabbed her right upper-thigh/groin area after a bounce-pass assist to Kelsey Mitchell with about 30 seconds in the game, her eyes immediately welling up with tears.
She got imaging done in New York on July 16, which ruled her out for the second game of Indiana's back-to-back against the Liberty and forced her to pull out of All-Star weekend activities in Indianapolis, including the 3-point contest and the game itself.
Clark has been averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists (second in the WNBA) and 5.0 rebounds this season, but was struggling with her shot (36.7% from the field and 27.9% from 3), while dealing with those nagging injuries.

Elijah Paige hopes to take on leadership role for USC's offensive line in 2025
For seemingly quite some time now, USC football has gone into each season with one or more established veteran leaders on the offensive line. From Alijah Vera-Tucker, to Andrew Vorhees, to Brett Neilon, to Justin Dedich, to Jonah Monheim, the Trojans have seemingly always had a guy who has been around for four or more years and gone through the ups and downs with the program. This season, USC's o-line does not have that established veteran presence, meaning that the Trojans will be forced to turn to a new generation of leaders. One player who has been looking to step into a leadership role in 2025 is redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Elijah Paige. Representing USC at Big Ten media days in Las Vegas last week, Paige spoke about trying to take on a leadership role on the Trojans' offensive line in 2025. "Teaching [the young guys] everything that I know, the moments that I had that were the 'low points of the season,'" Paige said, via 247Sports. "Teaching them and guiding them so that they don't have to go through the same things that I went through. Telling them everything that I know, playing in different environments, playing against different players, how to go against different pass rushers, just giving them everything that I have, and obviously they know a ton too. They learn the same things that I learned. So yeah, we're just kind of a team. "We've gone through it. We know what it feels like. Obviously, you never want to lose a game, but we've learned a ton from it. Our team's learned a ton. We've learned personally a ton about ourselves, and we're just excited to go out there this fall and play." As a redshirt freshman starting at left tackle last season, Paige was named All-Big Ten honorable mention. Now entering his second season as a starter for the Trojans, Paige will look to develop into one of the top offensive linemen in the conference.

Blue Jays Could Acquire Guardians Two-Time All-Star After Emmanuel Clase News
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Cleveland Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase was expected to impact the trade deadline, but not like this. Clase was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave on Monday in connection with Major League Baseball's sports betting investigation, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. Now, there's zero chance the three-time All-Star closer gets traded, and the Guardians are in a state of flux. That could mean the Toronto Blue Jays are in position to benefit, explains one insider. CLEVELAND, OHIO - JULY 06: Steven Kwan #38 of the Cleveland Guardians hits an RBI double during the eighth inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field on July 06, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio. CLEVELAND, OHIO - JULY 06: Steven Kwan #38 of the Cleveland Guardians hits an RBI double during the eighth inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field on July 06, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio. Photo byAccording to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Clase's non-suspension increases the odds that left fielder Steven Kwan, now a two-time All-Star himself, could be traded by Thursday's deadline. The Blue Jays have already checked in on Kwan, according to Rosenthal. "Kwan, 27, is earning $4.175 million this season and under club control through salary arbitration for two years after that. He is drawing 'a ton' of interest, according to a club source, with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres believed to be among the teams in the mix," Rosenthal wrote Tuesday. "The Guardians intend to set a high bar for their desired return. The combination of Kwan's age, additional years of control and offensive, defensive and base-running ability makes him perhaps the best position player available. He is more than six years younger than Eugenio Suárez, a rental, and his fWAR is 2.8 to Suárez's 3.0." There's a lot to digest here, because left field might not even be the Blue Jays' biggest need. That's likely pitching, as Toronto could use a starter and multiple relievers to boost its playoff case. However, players like Kwan don't become available often, especially for multiple seasons. Should the Blue Jays simply go after him because he could be another star added to their core, particularly as one star potentially exits in Bo Bichette? MLB Trade Deadline Target Eugenio Suarez Exits Game After Being Hit On Hand By Pitch
Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez hopes he avoided major injury when he was hit in the right index finger by a pitch late in Monday night's 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Suárez, who is a candidate to be traded to a contender, was hit by a 95.6 mph sinker from Will Vest in the ninth inning. He immediately doubled over in pain and quickly left the field. "The good news is that the X-rays were negative, but it still obviously hurt," said Suárez, who was not bending the finger. "There are more tests scheduled for (Tuesday) and we will go from there. I'll come back as quickly as I can." The 34-year-old is hitting .247 with 36 homers and 87 RBIs in 104 games this season — the seventh time he has hit at least 30 homers in the last eight full seasons. "He's very tough and he never even winces," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. "When he reacts like that, you know it isn't good." Lovullo said he didn't blame Vest. "I don't think there was any intent there," Lovullo said. "He's one of the most impressive hitters in MLB and you don't want to take those type of players off the field." The Diamondbacks are 51-56 and have already signaled they will be sellers at the deadline. One of the teams believed to be interested in Suárez is the Tigers. The Venezuelan was signed by Detroit at age 17 and made his debut for the club in 2014 before being traded to Cincinnati after that season. Reporting by The Associated Press.
