Retired Cowboy: 'Going to be hell to play the New York Giants'
Even with all the changes and a roster featuring several solid to very good players, there aren't many who have high expectations for the Giants in 2025. However, ESPN analyst and former NFL defensive end Marcus Spears believes in Big Blue.
In fact, Spears says, it might be "hell" to play the Giants this season.
"I'm one of those people who thinks it's going to be hell to play the New York Giants. Like, I really do, man," Spears said on the Pat McAfee Show. "Like, the physical brand they play on defense, but offensively, if they can get... One, if (Russell Wilson) can hold it down until -- we know Jaxson Dart's the future. If he (Wilson) can hold it down and have some success -- the one thing we know about Russ, he can throw that thing down the field, and Malik Nabers can catch it downfield.
"Offensive line ain't bad. You have a physical football team up front; left tackle is in a good situation right now. Jaxson Dart is going to be the answer. I'm a big Brian Daboll fan. Love him. I think he's one of the best in the league. But what it's going to come down to, and the Giants know this right now, we're going to have to kick people's (expletive) on the line of scrimmage, and I think they have the personnel to do it.
"So, if they are in games in the fourth quarter in the NFC East and they got an opportunity to either rush the passer and get people off the field, or they can be physical at the point of attack or push the ball down the field, I think they'll have the personnel to do it. Remember this, fellas -- a lot of this, for the Giants, has been personnel, bro. They haven't had good rosters for a minute, and I think they are marketably better on both sides of the ball now."
Most believe the Giants had an upgrade on the offensive side of the ball by bringing in Wilson to be their starting quarterback and by adding a few depth pieces in the NFL draft.
On defense, the Giants selected Abdul Carter, who has some high expectations surrounding him, and rightfully so. Additionally, they made splashes in free agency by adding defensive backs Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland.
There is certainly some talent on the Giants' roster. However, with the difficult schedule coming off a three-win season, it's hard to sell them being a good team this season, especially within a tough division.
Spears is confident in the Giants and the buzz surrounding the team ahead of their 2025 season. On paper, this may be the most talented roster that Brian Daboll has had since coming to the organization.

Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates prediction, pick, start time for UFC 319
Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates meet on the main card of UFC 319 at United Center in Chicago. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 4-2 UFC main cards, 2025: 80-60-1 Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates UFC 319 preview Neal (16-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) will look to make it back-to-back victories following a first-round finish of former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 308. The result ended a two-fight skid against Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry. Prior to those setbacks, "Handz of Steel" won a split decision over Santiago Ponzinibbio and finished Vicente Luque in consecutive fights. ... Prates (21-7 MMA, 4-1 UFC) suffered his first UFC loss in April by decision against Ian Machado Garry. Prior to that, Prates left a trail of wreckage in stoppages of Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, Li Jingliang and Neil Magny. Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates UFC 319 expert pick, prediction Filling out the main card is a striker's delight at welterweight between Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates. Aside from this being a tricky southpaw vs. southpaw affair, I'm also a big fan of both fighters, so picking this one was difficult. On one hand, I Neal is a traditionally durable power puncher whose offensive output will keep him as both a knockout and scoring threat for all three frames. So if this fight extends, Neal will probably be live due to Prates' sometimes lower-output approach. However, when looking at past performances of Prates against fellow southpaws, the Fighting Nerds product appears to be incredibly comfortable fighting other lefties – even showing the ability to still find his favored killshots to the liver. I don't like picking against Fortis MMA fighters, but I'll officially side with Prates to score another body-knee knockout by the end of Round 2. Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates UFC 319 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the Brazilian fighter, listing Prates -235 and Neal +194 via FanDuel. Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates UFC 319 start time, how to watch Neal and Prates are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 11:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ESPN+ pay-per-view. Wolfsburg routs 5th-tier team Hemelingen 9-0 in German Cup
BERLIN (AP) — Wolfsburg routed fifth-tier SV Hemelingen 9-0 in the first round of the German Cup on Saturday, when other Bundesliga teams also enjoyed big wins over lower-league opposition. Two-time champion Leipzig twice came from behind to beat fourth-tier SV Sandhausen 4-2 with new signings Ezechiel Banzuzi and Yan Diomande both scoring. Heidenheim won 5-0 at 10-man fourth-tier Bahlinger SC and Hoffenheim won 4-0 at third-division Hansa Rostock. Hamburger SV, which clinched its return to the Bundesliga last season, survived a scare at fifth-tier Pirmasens, equalizing late to send the match to extra time, where Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer headed the winner for 2-1. Königsdörffer was only playing for Hamburg because a proposed early August move to Nice broke down after his medical check with the French team. Bochum also needed a late goal to level before prevailing 3-1 at nine-man Dynamo Berlin. ___ AP soccer:
