TSDSI, Bharat 6G Alliance ink pact to co-develop 6G standards
Telecommunications Standards Development Society
, India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
Bharat 6G Alliance
to synergise efforts for the implementation of the 'Bharat
6G
Vision'.
Under the pact, both will jointly cooperate to develop standards for the sixth-generation (6G) technology, address India's priorities in 6G and future technologies, and exchange information on activity roadmaps and work plans at global forums related to technologies as well as on technical activities carried out within each other's organisations.
'
TSDSI
is delighted to have entered into this partnership with B6GA and looks forward to mutual alignment and harmonisation of efforts in the respective areas of activities of TSDSI and B6GA, which will have a multiplier effect on research and development outcomes on the one hand and standard development and contributions to global standards on the other hand,' said AK Mittal, director-general, TSDSI.
'Through this collaboration, Bharat 6G Alliance and TSDSI commit to harmonising their activities in support of the government of India's 6G Vision. The partnership will strengthen India's participation in global standards development processes and ensure that national priorities are effectively represented in shaping the 6G and future technology landscape,' said Rajesh Kumar Pathak, director-general, Bharat 6G Alliance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had released the
Bharat 6G Vision
document in March 2023 with the objectives to design, develop and deploy 6G network technologies that provide ubiquitous intelligent and secure connectivity for high-quality experiences to the world, in a bid to position India as a global leader in 6G technology by 2030.
The Bharat 6G Alliance, in turn, is an alliance of domestic industry, academia, national research institutions and standards organisations to develop an action plan according to the Bharat 6G Vision. It has signed pacts with leading global 6G alliances to enhance global collaborations for the development of 6G wireless technologies.
India has contributed to the International Telecommunications Union International Mobile Technology (IMT) 2030 framework, also called 6G, for the inclusion of 'Ubiquitous Connectivity' as one of the six usage scenarios of 6G and coverage, interoperability and sustainability as capabilities of 6G technology.

TSDSI, ATU ink pact for collaboration on 5G, 6G, AI, rural broadband standards
NEW DELHI: The Telecommunications Standards Development Society , India ( TSDSI ) said on Wednesday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Africa Telecommunications Union ( ATU ) for technical collaboration on global standards for 5G , 6G, artificial intelligence ( AI ), the Internet of Things (IoT), and rural broadband. 'It is poised to strengthen the Global South's voice in international standards bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and to address the long-standing "standardisation gap" that has limited the effective participation of developing countries,' the TSDSI said in a joint statement. Historically, global standardisation has been steered predominantly by advanced economies, the Indian telecom standards body said, adding that the pact with the ATU aims to enable Africa and India to co-develop technical contributions as per their domestic markets. TSDSI has already made significant contributions, including the 5Gi specification, aimed at improving rural 5G coverage. The ATU, as the ITU regional telecommunications body for Africa and the ICT arm of the African Union, has similarly coordinated common African positions at the ITU. ATU Secretary General John Omo said, 'Africa and India share not only development aspirations but also an urgent need to be more meaningfully represented in the global standards-setting scene. This MoU offers us a necessary opportunity to share technical leadership in areas that can benefit both Africa and India.' 'The inclusion of needs such as coverage, ubiquitous connectivity, sustainability and AI assisted) networks and communication in the IMT2030 Framework, is indicative of how telecom technologies are expected to be developed and deployed for digital public good, especially in rural and remote areas,' said AK Mittal, director-general, TSDSI. Mittal said that the collaboration between TSDSI and ATU is a 'natural alliance' which will help discover common requirements and interests of end-users, telecom service providers and policy makers from India and Africa, strengthening their voice on the global standards arena. With 5G-Advanced and 6G discussions already underway in standardisation forums, the TSDSI–ATU alliance is well-positioned to influence the design of next-generation networks. In this regard, both TSDSI and ATU intend to collaborate and build synergies in telecoms and ICT standardisation, radiocommunication, and the inclusion of regional requirements into the global standards development processes. The pact also provides a framework for coordination on global standards, radio, and ICT development forums, as well as the implementation of joint capacity-building initiatives in these areas.

Telecom PLI sees investments worth Rs 4,305 crore, exports reach Rs 16,414 crore: Minister
New Delhi: The production-linked incentive (PLI) beneficiary companies in the telecom sector have collectively invested Rs 4,305 crore, generating sales worth Rs 85,391 crore which includes exports of Rs 16,414 crore (till May 31, 2025), according to the government. This investment has also resulted in employment for 28,067 persons, said Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. The PLI scheme for telecom and networking products aims to boost domestic manufacturing with an outlay of Rs 12,195 crore. A total of 42 companies — 28 MSMEs and 14 non-MSMEs — have been approved as beneficiaries under the PLI scheme. Further, to enable roll out of 5G services, access spectrum in various spectrum bands for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) including 700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands has been assigned to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) through spectrum auctions conducted in the year 2022 and 2024. The successful bidders, who acquire spectrum through auctions, are permitted to deploy any IMT technology, including 5G. 'The Postal Department has undertaken new initiatives such as the digitisation of Post Office Savings Bank services, the transition of Postal Life Insurance to a paperless and online system, the establishment of Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras and collaboration with e-commerce entities in rural and urban areas to promote banking, insurance, and e-commerce in rural regions,' said the minister. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has undertaken multiple initiatives to promote innovation and domestic manufacturing in the communications sector. Under the 'Digital Communications Innovation Square (DCIS)' scheme, DoT has supported 126 projects led by start-ups and MSMEs, with a total budget outlay of Rs 108 crore, to foster the development of advanced technologies, including indigenous 5G, said the minister. The BharatNet project is being implemented in a phased manner to provide broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the country and so far, 2,14,325 GPs have been made service ready, he added. —IANS na/
