Palesa Mphaki on Married at First Sight S2 – ‘Not everyone is completely honest'

News242 days ago
Four couples who meet at the altar are bound to have the whole country talking.
Married at First Sight South Africa Season 2 has shown couples Palesa Mphaki and Tshepo Miya, Makoto Phumodi and Nkuleleko Mahlangu, Themba Khosa and Nelisa Ntabeni, and Portia Baloyi and Bongani Luvalo traverse through life as newlyweds, getting to know each other and ultimately falling in love, with the help of relationship experts.
However, cracks are already beginning to show in some of the relationships, as seen with Palesa and Tshepo.
On joining the social experiment series and seeing herself on screen, Palesa says, 'I said yes to Married at First Sight South Africa for the experience, with the objective of discovering affection through an unorthodox approach.
'Watching myself on screen has been a peculiar experience, yet I am grateful for the occasion to observe myself from a distinct perspective.'
Viewers were waiting to see sparks fly as the couples first laid eyes on each other at the altar, but for some of the couples, it might not have been love at first sight.
'When I first laid eyes on Tshepo, I was slightly shocked. I mean, I had said I wasn't into super skinny guys, but I hadn't anticipated meeting a pretty chubby dude at the altar. But hey, I know that looks aren't everything, so I was still willing to give it a shot,' Palesa explains.
But it all came to a head once Tshepo started to bring up his interest in polygamy, a subject that Palesa was adamant about never breaching again.
'The most significant challenge when it comes to being married to a stranger is the aspect of discovering their darker side, as well as gaining insight into the reasons behind their continued single status,' Palesa revealed, an ominous note to what could be a dissolving marriage for the pair.
When it came to the topic of polygamy, the event organiser admits, 'The polygamy question truly took me aback. I couldn't understand why he would even bring up such a topic.'
The latest episode of the series showed what could be more cracks in Palesa and Tshepo's relationship when she suspects that her husband might be cheating on her.
'Being on the show taught me that not everyone is completely honest in their actions and movements. It was a real eye-opener,' Palesa says.
She continues, 'It has taught me the importance of setting healthy boundaries and not allowing others to take advantage of my good nature. I have learned to stand up for myself while still being respectful and considerate of others. Overall, my time on the show has been a valuable learning experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally.'
Fans eagerly await each episode as they bear witness to the complex pairing of newlyweds Makoto and Nkululeko, who both have shared their deep traumas and the winding path to healing individually and as a couple.
Palesa looks forward to seeing where their journey takes them, and says, 'I am truly savouring and relishing the journey of Makoto and Nkululeko. There is something incredibly compelling about focusing on those who are frequently misunderstood or misjudged by society.
'Their stories and experiences add depth and richness to our understanding of the world, and I find great value in paying close attention to their paths. Especially because I know the show is not scripted.'
Palesa adds, 'I have conversations with Makoto nearly every day, and I engage in frequent discussions with Nelisa. However, Portia's communication with me is dead.'

Actress Ama Qamata is reclaiming her natural locks

Ama Qamata not only shines on screen and is growing in her craft as a thespian, but her personal style also holds a deeper meaning. The Blood & Water and Marked actress has been known to sport bold braided styles that experiment with colour, design and defy gravity. Her hair is a reflection of her growth, and she reveals to TRUELOVE how she's starting to steer away from the consistent braid styles that put tension on her hair and learn to love her natural 'fro again. 'Can I tell you how much I do not like braids anymore? I know it's so contradictory because I have plaits, but they finished my hair, guys. Oh my gosh. It was so stressful for me at the time because I'd have to do it back to back to back. And now I'm just trying to take care of my hair again,' she says. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ama Qamata (@amaqamata) Ama tells us all about how she's reclaiming her relationship with her natural hair again. 'For the past couple of months, I've just had my afro. I loved it. I think it was such a big step for me because I'm not new to just having my hair. Braids kind of felt like a blanket. I knew that people were used to seeing me in this way, so I felt like, oh my God, how are people gonna feel seeing me with my natural hair And that's what I loved about Marked as well. So, I got to wear my natural hair. So it was just lovely. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ama Qamata (@amaqamata) 'I really enjoyed that, actually taking care of it and realising that our hair as Black women, because I think there's a lot of - I don't wanna say shame, but for lack of a better word - shame around our hair. 'We just don't have good words to say about our hair. Or it takes hours or something, but it actually doesn't, you just need water and conditioner, and that's it. It's not that difficult, well, that's what I realised is that, oh, actually, it's not a lot of work. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ama Qamata (@amaqamata) 'It just needs, like, care and love, like anything else. Even your skin, you need a routine to make sure that your skin looks great. So I think it's the same with your hair. So I really just loved falling in love with my hair and taking care of it again. If you could say something or write to letter to your hair, what would you say to it? 'I would say she's really strong. For all the things I've put her through these years, like all the braids I've put her through and just constantly changing my hairstyle, she's very healthy, she's full, she's soft. I love my curls when I'm washing them in the shower. 'I would just say, 'Girl, you're strong. I put you through the most, but you still take care of me.' Travis Kelce Says Dating Taylor Swift Still Feels Normal: ‘We're Just Two People That Are in Love'

Travis Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift feels more like the 1989 deep cut 'You Are in Love' than the camera-flashing chaos of 'Blank Space.' When asked how they keep their romance alive while navigating being in the public eye, the Kansas City Chiefs player told GQ, 'Whenever I'm with her, it feels like we're just regular people. When there is not a camera on us, we're just two people that are in love.' Kelce and Swift began dating in 2023, when he was fresh off of his team's Super Bowl LVII win and Swift was in the early months of the career-spanning Eras Tour. Some believed they witnessed the couple hard-launch their relationship when Swift attended a Chiefs game after being publicly courted by Kelce, but of course, they had been dating privately for a while before then. 'It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out,' Kelce said. 'It happened very organically, even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically.' When I say it was so organic, we fell in love just based off the people we were sitting in a room together with. We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are. We share all those values. It kind of just took the fuck off.' Their mutual understanding of how to navigate the media landscape is something Kelce values in their relationship. 'I hadn't experienced somebody in the same shoes as me, having a partner who understands the scrutiny, understands the ups and downs of being in front of millions,' he said. There was also overlap in the physical demands of their respective careers. 'That was very relatable, seeing how exhausted she would get after shows,' Kelce added. 'She may not think of herself as an athlete. She will never tell anyone that she is an athlete. But I've seen what she goes through. I've seen the amount of work that she puts on her body, and it's mind-blowing.' Kelce managed to catch a few shows on the Eras Tour, waiting in the wings as Swift tweaked her lyrics to shout out 'the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.' He even joined her onstage in London as a dancer during 'I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.' He's witnessed firsthand how grueling those three-hour-long shows could be. 'To go out on a stage, on a computer, essentially, for three hours. The [Eras Tour] floor is literally—I've seen underneath that thing. It is a football-field-sized computer,' Kelce said. 'You take that into Singapore, where it is scorching hot, and all of a sudden you're feeling the fumes from the computer and you're feeling the fumes from the sun and you're doing a show for three hours with a lot of energy, bringing it every single song. That is arguably more exhausting than how much I put in on a Sunday, and she's doing it three, four, five days in a row.' Swift has been to her fair share of Chiefs games, now, too. 'I sort of made her a football fan,' Kelce said. 'She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short—all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job.' He enjoys the balance of showing up for each other. 'I get to be the plus one,' he said. 'I get to go and be that fan. Because I am a fan. I'm a fan of music. I'm a fan of art. And it's so cool that I get to experience her being that plus one for me on the football field…. I feel that same enjoyment every time she comes to my shows.' Kelce is also learning the dynamism of performance from Swift. 'Whenever I get in front of a crowd, I feel like I've got to be like, 'Woooo!' Like, excited, bringing the energy. Then I saw that coolness and that calmness and that relatability that she is so good at presenting,' he said. 'I really grabbed that. Like, man, I can use that side of entertainment as well. It's not just always being the guy that brings the energy and creates these exciting moments.' 'People gravitate towards how she performs and how she makes it feel like the entire stadium is in this little room with her,' he continued. 'She is so good at mesmerizing everybody and making everybody feel like it's an intimate situation. I think that alone — there is so much calm and coolness. She's beautiful. She's up there making everyone feel at ease.' Later this week, Swift will appear alongside Kelce as a special guest on New Heights, the podcast he hosts with his brother Jason Kelce. In the teaser for the episode, the singer-songwriter announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Kicking off the rollout together, Kelce is getting another look into how Swift is always 'setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.'
