Mum told to pay police officer £50 for striking him in the face with toilet roll

Metro21-05-2025

A mum of one has been slapped with a £50 fine after assaulting a police officer with Andrex toilet roll.
Mischa Fawbert, 23, 'lunged' at PC Alex Camenzuli while holding the 'soft, strong and very, very long' toilet paper, hitting him in the face.
Police had attended Fawbert's flat in Congleton, Cheshire, on February 21 after she dialled 999 in the midst of a mental health crisis.
PC Camenzuli and another officer forced their way into Fawbert's home after she didn't open the door.
They found her lying in bed, but when Fawbert tried to leave the room, PC Camenzuli said: 'She came swinging her hands at me. She hit me on the right side of the face with her hand.
'She was holding a roll of toilet paper. It caused immediate transient pain and discomfort.'
After hitting PC Camenzuli, the mum said: 'I threw the toilet roll at you because you were egging me on.'
At Crewe Magistrates' Court, Fawbert admitted assault on an emergency worker and was fined £80 with £117 of costs and a victim surcharge.
Defence solicitor Taryn Reay said: 'Police have attended at her address for a welfare check. She is in a mental health crisis, and she had a one-year-old child in her care at the time.
'Police entered the property on their own, given their concern, and Miss Fawbert was struggling to get out of bed. She was triggered by being in bed with two male police officers in the bedroom.
'It was a distressing situation for everybody involved. Her emotions were extremely high. She has been through a lot, but it is clear this was one of the worst times.'
Despite this, Reay said her client 'does not feel that the officer handled it very well', and said the matter should be dealt with by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. More Trending
'Comments were made about her flat. Her emotions were high, and at the time of the offence, she was at a low and reached out for help.
'There was no police station interview simply due to Miss Fawbert's mental health at the time,' Reay said.
Prosecutor Hannah Darling said: 'We do not accept the defendant's basis of plea, but we agree it will not make a material difference in terms of sentencing.'

Plastic surgeon who stabbed rival doctor and tried to burn down his home jailed

A plastic surgeon who broke into a fellow doctor's home and stabbed him in the middle of the night has been jailed for life. Jonathan Peter Brooks, 61, poured petrol over the floor before attacking his colleague Graeme Perks in January 2021. The burns specialist was desperate to get Perks 'out of the way' because the fellow plastic surgeon had been a witness in disciplinary hearings against him. Brooks was sentenced at Loughborough Courthouse today to life in prison, with a minimum term of 22 years, after being found guilty of attempted murder in April. Judge Justice Pepperall said the plastic surgeon, who was absent during the trial on hunger strike, had been on a 'murderous expedition' to commit 'appalling crimes'. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Brooks's victim was woken up by a loud bang during the break in at his £1m home in Halam, Nottinghamshire and ran downstairs naked to confront the intruder. Perks told police in a video interview he thought he was talking to his son when he was confronted by Brooks, who had concealed his identity. Perks, who was recently retired at the time, added: 'Nothing was said, and the next thing I remember was feeling a blow to my body. 'I put my hands to the area where I felt it and it was warm and sticky, and I thought I felt something poking out from my abdomen and I decided that I must have been stabbed and that I needed to get back to the house.' A surgeon, who treated the retired doctor, said Perks had a 95% chance of dying when he arrived at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment. Brooks, 61, had cycled to Perks' home armed with a crowbar, cans of petrol, matches and a knife – all while dressed in camouflage. Prosecutor Tracy Ayling KC said: 'His intention was, say the Crown, to break into Mr Perks's house, set fire to it and if necessary, stab Mr Perks. 'In short, he intended to kill Mr Perks by either or both those means.' The plastic surgeon was found guilty on April 7 of two counts of attempted murder, attempted arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a knife. More Trending He had denied all those charges. It was revealed after the jury's verdict that Brooks went on hunger strike and failed to attend proceedings at Leicester Crown Court. He was not present during sentencing today because he felt too unwell to make the journey to court. Judge Justice Pepperall previously said Brooks had 'used hunger strikes or the threat of some other self-harm to achieve some advantage' on 'no fewer than eight occasions' since 2021. Girl, 9, dies and girl, 11, taken to hospital after West Yorkshire house fire

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A nine-year-old girl and a man have died after a fire broke out in a house in West Yorkshire. Emergency services were called to the scene just before 6.20am on Sunday after they received several phone calls about the blaze in Heckmondwike. Firefighters removed a man, no further details, and two young girls from the property. The man was pronounced dead at the scene while the two girls, aged nine and 11, were taken to hospital. The youngest girl died in hospital yesterday. The 11-year-old remains in a critical condition, West Yorkshire Police said. Detective Inspector Paul Greatorex said: 'We are continuing to work with colleagues at the fire service to investigate this dreadfully sad incident which has resulted in a father and daughter losing their lives. More Trending 'Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since yesterday and we have been working to locate and support relatives of the victims both here and outside of the UK at what is clearly an awful time for the family. 'While our enquiries remain ongoing we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances regarding the cause of the fire and will be preparing a file for the coroner in due course. 'Our support for the family involved clearly also still continues.' Got a story? Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ Or you can submit your videos and pictures here. Bungling ram raider used shopping basket to make off with loot after bag broke

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video CCTV footage reveals the moment a bungling thief was forced to use a shopping basket to make off with his loot during a ram-raid. Kayne Palmer, 33, plundered an off-licence in Nottingham after reversing a stolen van into it during a two-week burglary spree between October and November 2023. He had found the keys to the van after breaking into a nearby house, where he also stole a handbag and a bank card. The shop's owners, who were asleep upstairs during the early-morning raid, were jolted awake by the sound of the storefront being smashed open. Meanwhile, Palmer was busy stuffing nearly £8,000 worth of cigarettes and bottles of booze into a bag, unaware it had a hole in the bottom. After realising many of the cigarette packets had fallen out, he can be seen in the footage frantically scooping them into one of the wire baskets provided for customers. He then loaded the store's till, containing £3,239 in cash, into the van before driving off. The owners called police but by the time they arrived Palmer had gone, leaving behind only thousands of pounds' worth of damage. During the getaway, Palmer 'crashed into street furniture, people's property, and narrowly missed pedestrians, showing a blatant disregard for the safety of members of the public', detectives said. He remained at large for another 17 days, after which he carried out five burglaries and one attempted burglary in the space of 24 hours. The 33-year-old was caught when officers spotted him hopping over fences after breaking into a house. More Trending He was jailed on Friday for seven years after pleading guilty to admitted eight burglaries and aggravated vehicle taking. He also admitted multiple counts of dangerous driving, attempted burglary, conspiring to steal motor vehicles, assault, theft, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. Detective Inspector Julian Eminson-Ferry of Nottinghamshire Police said: 'He didn't hide his offending and openly showed his face during the burglaries he committed. 'This showed his desperation and flippancy about the offences he carried out, regardless of the detrimental impact on his victims.'
