NFL Minicamp approaches. The discussions surrounding the New York Giants haven't changed much from what they were when the most recent NFL season ended. How does this team keep up with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders? How do they stay out of the NFC East's cellar?
Big Blue did what every pro football team needs to do to give itself a shot at being routinely competitive. They began a search for a better starting quarterback.
The Daniel Jones experiment is over. New York added Russell Wilson via free agency and Jaxson Dart during the NFL Draft. Now, there's more hope for the immediate and distant future, even if that hope seems minimal.

Talent on both sides of the ball was addressed during the selection meeting. Cam Skattebo and Marcus Mbow are on the roster now. So are Abdul Carter and Darius Alexander.
More punch is needed on defense if New York intends to keep up with two of their rivals now. Still, despite the news of a two-time All-Pro recently becoming available, there are conflicting reports about whether he'd be a fit.
Theories suggest the Giants would be wise to steer clear of Jaire Alexander
Why wouldn't the Giants show interest in Jaire Alexander? He's a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time Second-Team All-Pro nod. Certainly, no one questions his ability when on the field.
There's just one problem. He hasn't been on the field as much as an interested team would enjoy seeing. He has missed ten games or more during three of the past four seasons.

Perusing the respected news outlets reveals their is interest from the G-Men's media and faithful, but it isn't unanimous. Some of the respected voices for Giants coverage believe there's no reason to enter the sweepstakes, including Art Stapleton of northjersey.com.
"Jaire Alexander would have been an intriguing target for the Giants had he hit the market three months ago. With the Green Bay Packers waiting to release the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback until now, that's no longer the case."
He continued: "And this is certainly not an argument against the talent of Alexander, who would instantly bring the best resume of any defensive back on the roster to Big Blue. Sometimes the timing of personnel decisions such as these - with the importance of looking in the mirror and being realistic about where the Giants are - can trump everything else."
CBS Sports' Jared Dubin recently crafted his take on "Top landing spots for oft-injured star CB." The G-Men weren't mentioned in his theory.

The Giants have already invested heavily into Paulson Adebo to be their top cornerback. He signed a three-year, 54-million deal on March 13. Korie Black was drafted in April, albeit in Round 7. This team still wants to get the best out of Tae Banks and Cor'Dale Flott.
Stapleton is correct in much of his theory. Green Bay was a playoff team last season. If they say no, how can the Giants say yes? If this was an opportunity that presented itself last offseason, acquiring Alexander would have been a no-brainer, but things have changed. This is certainly a hard pass.

5 Best Landing Spots for Jaire Alexander After Shocking Release by Packers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The business of the NFL can often rear its ugly head, leading to star players being released due to their oversized contracts. That was the case on Monday morning when it was revealed that the Green Bay Packers are set to release star cornerback Jaire Alexander. More news: Vikings Emerge as Possible Landing Spot for Packers Star Alexander was reportedly going to be moved, but it was his $17.5 million price tag and injuries that led to many teams apparently not being interested in a trade, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Further reports indicated that the Buffalo Bills were attempting a trade this offseason, but that never materialized. Either way, Alexander can now find a new team, and there are quite a few that are going to be interested in his services. 5. Los Angeles Rams Another star cornerback is currently in the mix for the Los Angeles Rams, who is former secondary shut-down corner Jalen Ramsey. The Miami Dolphins are set to trade Ramsey, and his ending up with his former team would make sense. If the Ramsey trade does not come to fruition for the Rams, expect LA to attempt to land Alexander. The team already has Akhello Witherspoon and Quentin Lake, but adding Alexander would make this group elite. 4. Philadelphia Eagles The Philadelphia Eagles lost Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers to free agency, leaving the team with Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson opposite Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Again, this secondary is still quite formidable, but adding a talent like Alexander would put the unit over the top in terms of defensive capabilities. 3. Buffalo Bills The aforementioned Bills could still make a play for Alexander, especially now that he has been released. The team currently has Christian Benford, Maxwell Hairston, and Taron Johnson, but Alexander would boost the team. The Bills allowed 226.1 yards per game on average in passing in 2024. Adding Alexander could significantly improve that number, giving the team a more well-rounded defense. 2. More Photo byMore news: Steelers Could Make Huge Splash With Former Aaron Rodgers Teammate Alexander might want to go to a contender, and though the San Francisco 49ers weren't that in 2024 — they are expected to make a major leap in 2025. The defense also lost Charvarius Ward, so more secondary help is needed. Adding Alexander to a defensive unit that includes Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, and now Bryce Huff, would make the team far more dangerous. Robert Saleh is also back as defensive coordinator, and he would likely relish at the idea of bringing in a strong veteran like Alexander. 1. Miami Dolphins As mentioned above, the Dolphins are currently in the middle of trying to trade Ramsey. When he is traded, it will leave the team exposed on the secondary side of things. Storm Duck, Cam Smith, Kader Kohou, and Ethan Bonner make up a secondary with many questions. The Dolphins want to compete in the AFC, along with the AFC West, meaning they need a strong veteran presence to be added. Look no further than Alexander. Granted, there are other veterans like Asante Samuel Jr., whom the team has already contacted. However, Alexander's release could become a godsend for the Dolphins. Russell Wilson #3 and Justin Fields #2 of the Pittsburgh Steelers look on as head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers #8 of the New York Jets embrace after the game at Acrisure Stadium on October 20, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. MoreThe wait is finally over as four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers has signed on to become the next starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers comes over after a relatively unsuccessful stint with the New York Jets, but this time around, the former Super Bowl champion is joining a franchise that has a long history of winning football games. Even at the age of 41, Rodgers is still one of the brightest minds in the game and should still possess the arm strength to be effective in the league. Mike Tomlin is one of the very best head coaches in the NFL, and the hope is that he can maximize every bit of talent Rodgers still has to offer. The deal is for one year and $13.6 million, and the future first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback is set to wear number 8 this upcoming season.
