Rights panel asks Tripura DGP to assist man stranded in Malaysia

Time of India26-05-2025

Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has instructed the DGP to provide a comprehensive investigation report by June 16 regarding a Tripura citizen currently stranded in Malaysia with an expired tourist visa.
The DGP has been tasked by the commission to take appropriate measures to assist the victim, Binoy Das, following a thorough investigation. The THRC's directive came after receiving a formal complaint from Satya Prakash Mishra, a Jharkhand resident, who submitted the petition for Binoy Das from Agartala, West Tripura.
The case is classified under 'exploitation of Indian labourers in foreign countries'. The petitioner states that Das was enticed to Malaysia by an organisation allegedly connected to ISKM, Pondicherry, with assurances of enhanced employment prospects and increased earnings.
His tourist visa lapsed approximately a year ago, and despite assurances of legalising his stay to enable him to work and support his unwell father financially, the promises remained unfulfilled.
The commission's statement reveals that the petitioner's brother, Satyam Chaudhury, encountered similar difficulties with the same organisation. However, he returned to India in Nov 2023 through the assistance of the Indian High Commission in Malaysia.

Although Das was present during the repatriation proceedings, he stayed back based on assurances of status regularisation. "Das has been in constant touch with the complainant since then, expressing growing anxiety and a sense of helplessness," the order noted.
He has not received his promised compensation and lives under the constant threat of arrest as an unauthorised immigrant. The petitioner has provided evidence relating to Das's situation, indicating a systematic pattern of exploitation by certain India-based organisations that deceive vulnerable people with false opportunities abroad before abandoning them.
THRC has sent the complaint and supporting documents to the DGP, requesting verification of the case's legitimacy, stating, "Let the DGP conduct an inquiry and submit a report by the next date. If the claims are substantiated, appropriate action may be initiated for the victim's repatriation. The case is scheduled to be taken up after three weeks."

450 kg paneer seized in Chandigarh: 5 ways to check the purity of paneer

Chandigarh's health department seized 450 kg of adulterated paneer and dairy products during a raid, prompting concerns about food safety. Officials cautioned consumers against unusually cheap paneer, as genuine production costs exceed Rs 300 per kg. Paneer is a rich source of protein and other nutrients. Unfortunately, this nutritious food is often making news due to the on-going adulteration in the market. In a major crackdown in Chandigarh, health department officials have seized around 450 kg of paneer and other dairy products from a shop and a vehicle. Scroll down to read the details. According to a TOI report, the food safety administration of the Chandigarh health department conducted a raid in Bapudham Colony, Sector 26 and seized around 450 kg of paneer and other dairy products including ghee and dahi from a shop and a vehicle. As per the report, the seized samples have been sent to a food safety analyst laboratory authorised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Also, two challans were issued under Section 63 of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006. According to the designated officer-cum-licensing authority for food safety, customers should be vigilant while buying paneer from the market. He cautioned consumers against being misled by unusually low prices. As per the report, the cost of paneer cannot be as low as Rs 250 per kg, as it takes about 3 litres of milk with sufficient fat content to produce 1 kg of paneer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The processing cost alone would exceed Rs 300, the official explained in the report. As per reports, fake paneer is often made by mixing milk powder and water, which is further curdled with lime juice and acetic acid. To which palm oil is added to make it appear creamy and glossy. But the question of concern here is how to recognize a fake paneer at home. While the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a lot of tests and measures to check adulteration in milk and milk products, there are certain ways in which you can do the quality check of store-bought paneer at home as well. Take a look at the following tips and tricks: Try the hand test Take a small amount of paneer and mash it using clean hands. Pure, unadulterated paneer will hold its texture, while adulterated paneer—often made from skimmed milk—will crumble or break apart under slight pressure. Use iodine tincture To test whether the paneer is natural or artificial, one can use iodine tincture. Add water to a pan, place the paneer in it, and bring it to a boil. Let it cool down, then add a few drops of iodine tincture and see if the color changes to blue, which means the paneer is artificial. Use arhar dal For this test, boil paneer in some water, and after it cools down, add some tur dal powder and let it rest for 10 minutes. If the color of the paneer changes to light red, it is a sign that the paneer is made with detergent or urea. Use soybean powder Boil some paneer in water, let it cool down, and then add some soybean powder to it. If the color of the paneer changes to light red, it is a sign that the paneer is made with detergent or urea. Taste test Always take a small bite of paneer before you buy it, especially open counter ones. If it is chewy, it is artificial, and if it tastes very sour, then there are chances that paneer is adulterated with detergent or any other substandard product. UP woman strangled, stuffed in suitcase: Husband knew of murder plot, aided cover-up; six in-laws held

Ghaziabad police arrested Sagar, his mother, and sister for the murder of Kavita, whose body was found in a suitcase GHAZIABAD: The husband of a 25-year-old woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase on a roadside in Loni border area on June 10 knew about the murder conspiracy, police said. Sagar of Delhi's Karawal Nagar, was arrested along with his mother Vimlesh and sister Shivani in connection with the murder of his wife Kavita on Friday. Earlier, cops arrested his two brothers and father for strangling the woman to death and disposing of her body in a suitcase. The accused had told cops that they did not tell Sagar, who works at a furnace unit in Baghpat and was away at the time, about the murder. Sagar, who visited home only once every two weeks due to his work schedule, had played along. He claimed his father and brothers had told him that Kavita had stormed off after a domestic dispute and likely returned to her native village. On Friday, cops said Sagar was in regular contact with his family members before and after the crime. "Sagar was aware of the conspiracy to kill his wife. Though he initially claimed ignorance, evidence pointed to his active communication with the family before and after the murder," ACP Loni border Ajay Kumar Singh said. "He only admitted to knowing once confronted with call records and witness statements." Kavita's body was found on June 10 by some labourers on the Behta Hajipur road. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo She had been strangled with a scarf and stuffed into a green suitcase, her legs twisted to fit. Cops recovered a scarf, blanket and bedsheet that were used to secure the suitcase. After autopsy confirmed death by strangulation, an FIR was filed. Police launched an intensive investigation, scanning more than 1,000 CCTV feeds and issuing alerts across Delhi and UP. Within 48 hours, they identified Kavita and traced her last known location to Karawal Nagar. Three men — Kavita's father-in-law Harveer Singh, and brothers-in-law Sumit and Guddu — were arrested on Thursday for murder. Investigators later added criminal conspiracy charges after more family members were implicated. By Friday, Sagar, Vimlesh, and Shivani were also in custody, while his brother, Karan, remains absconding. Police said tensions within the household had escalated in recent months. Kavita had a love marriage with Sagar but frequently bickered with her in-laws. In her statement, Vimlesh claimed the family "wanted to get rid of her" after repeated arguments. On June 9, Sumit allegedly attacked Kavita during an argument, strangled her with a scarf, and suffocated her further with a bedsheet. Harveer held her legs while Sumit choked her until she died. Shivani then arranged for a motorcycle, and the body was transported in a suitcase by Harveer and Guddu. Karan was present at home when Kavita was killed. After disposing of the body, they informed Sagar and Vimlesh, who had been working at a brick kiln in Baghpat. "Everyone was in touch," said ACP Singh. "This was a premeditated family crime."
