Rights panel asks Tripura DGP to assist man stranded in Malaysia
Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has instructed the DGP to provide a comprehensive investigation report by June 16 regarding a Tripura citizen currently stranded in Malaysia with an expired tourist visa. The DGP has been tasked by the commission to take appropriate measures to assist the victim, Binoy Das, following a thorough investigation. The THRC's directive came after receiving a formal complaint from Satya Prakash Mishra, a Jharkhand resident, who submitted the petition for Binoy Das from Agartala, West Tripura. The case is classified under 'exploitation of Indian labourers in foreign countries'. The petitioner states that Das was enticed to Malaysia by an organisation allegedly connected to ISKM, Pondicherry, with assurances of enhanced employment prospects and increased earnings. His tourist visa lapsed approximately a year ago, and despite assurances of legalising his stay to enable him to work and support his unwell father financially, the promises remained unfulfilled. The commission's statement reveals that the petitioner's brother, Satyam Chaudhury, encountered similar difficulties with the same organisation. "Das has been in constant touch with the complainant since then, expressing growing anxiety and a sense of helplessness," the order noted. He has not received his promised compensation and lives under the constant threat of arrest as an unauthorised immigrant. The petitioner has provided evidence relating to Das's situation, indicating a systematic pattern of exploitation by certain India-based organisations that deceive vulnerable people with false opportunities abroad before abandoning them. THRC has sent the complaint and supporting documents to the DGP, requesting verification of the case's legitimacy, stating, "Let the DGP conduct an inquiry and submit a report by the next date. If the claims are substantiated, appropriate action may be initiated for the victim's repatriation. The case is scheduled to be taken up after three weeks."

THRC seeks report on B'deshi undertrial's death at Agartala centre
Agartala : The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the death of a Bangladeshi undertrial who died during treatment at the ABV Regional Cancer Centre in Agartala on Saturday. The commission has directed the inspector general of prisons to submit a comprehensive report by June 18 on the circumstances leading to the prisoner's death. The undertrial prisoner, Aradhan Sarkar (42), a resident of Habiganj in Bangladesh's Sylhet district, had been in custody for illegal entry into India during the second week of April. Initially, he was lodged at Khowai sub-jail following the court order. Thereafter, on April 17, he was shifted to Kendriya Sansodhanagar, Bishalgarh, following a judicial order recommending better medical care at the Agartala Government Medical College. Sarkar was taken to the medical college hospital on April 19, and he was later referred to the ABV Regional Cancer Centre after he was diagnosed with cancer. Sarkar died during treatment in the early hours. The jail authorities have informed the officer-in-charge of Champahaur Police Station in Khowai district to notify Sarkar's family members and request them to collect the body after completing formalities. However, THRC emphasised the importance of determining the exact cause and circumstances of the death. It has instructed inspector general of prisons to submit a detailed report, including initial health screening records during custody. The commission has also asked for a complete medical treatment history, including indoor care, inquest and post-mortem reports, videography of the post-mortem, chemical analysis of viscera, final scientific cause of death and detailed magisterial inquiry report. Rights panel seeks report on 323 families living beyond wire fence
Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has asked the district magistrate of Sepahijala and the managing director of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) to submit a detailed report on the status of Indian families living on the other side of the barbed wire fencing in the Matinagar area .Newly appointed chairman of THRC Justice Arindam Lodh has taken cognizance of a case of grave human rights violation involving 323 Indian citizens living on the other side of wire fencing in the Matinagar area of Sepahijala district and posted the matter for hearing on May to the report, a total of 323 Indian citizens living beyond the barbed wire fencing had complained that despite being regular consumers, they are now being deprived of electricity supply , as TSECL authority and district administration have disconnected the power supply to the the construction of border fencing around two decades ago, some gates used to remain open from 6am to 8pm and this posed no difficulty. But a few years back the gates were closed two or three times a day and are now completely shut at 5pm. The problem has worsened by the suspension of electricity supply despite regular payment of residents have alleged that even the students cannot attend school on time, and in health emergencies, patients cannot be brought in for treatment or admission to hospitals. The complaint letter alleged that they have now been allowed to purchase and install electric gadgets in their houses from across the admitting the grievances, Justice Lodh said in an order that apparently there are cases of violations of human rights and directed district magistrate and TSECL to file their responses to the allegations in writing on or before the next hearing.
