Purohit gets rousing welcome in Pune: asserts no one can question my patriotism, loyalty to nation
A special Mumbai court on Thursday acquitted Purohit, former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and five others who were accused of involvement in a blast that killed six and injured 101 in Malegaon in Nashik district on September 29 that year.
Outside Shantisheela Housing Society on Law College Road, where he lives, the military officer was mobbed by friends, family members, supporters, members of various right-wing organisations and others.
He rode an open jeep, accompanied by his wife Aparna, amid the beating of 'dhol-tasha' (traditional drums) and showering of flower petals, with participants raising slogans of "Jai Shree Ram" and "Sanatan dharm ki jai" as well those hailing his acquittal. Several of them waved saffron flags.
Addressing the gathering, a visibly emotional Purohit said, "I never imagined that I would get such a grand welcome from all of you. I am speechless and unable to gather my thoughts or express my feelings."
"One can only imagine the pain one endures when false allegations are levelled. But I never had any difficulty in facing them," he said defiantly.
Purohit said he could never tell his wife and mother about the torture he endured and the insults he was subjected to but they always understood.
Through all these years, his kin, friends and a huge number of well-wishers always stood by him, the Lt Colonel added.
"As a soldier, what I can say with conviction is that not even an enemy can question my patriotism and loyalty towards the nation. During my submission (in court), I insisted that I be called anything but not aatankwadi (terrorist) or deshdrohi (traitor)," he said.
Taking about the years of incarceration, Purohit said his health deteriorated after arrest as he was mentally unable to come to terms with the questions that were being raised about him.
Purohit, a fitness enthusiast for long, further said, "During one of the early court meetings after my arrest, my wife saw my condition and asked whether I was still exercising. I said no. She then took special permission from the court, arranged for some exercise equipment, and encouraged me to work out daily."
Earlier, after arriving at his housing complex, Purohit offered prayers at the Hanuman temple.
Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni, who was present at the site, said Purohit's acquittal was a "tight slap" from the court to those who coined the term "bhagwa aatankwad" (saffron terror).
"Just like films such as The Kerala Story and The Kashmir Files, a movie titled Malegaon Stories should be made to expose these fake narratives," she added.

'From cooperative development to national security, his contribution has been exemplary,' he gushed. The deputy CM took a snipe at the Thackeray cousins Raj and Uddhav when asked about a possible alliance between the two. 'So what will happen if the two come together?' he asked. 'People don't vote for names but for accomplishments. They don't vote for people who sit at home. Parties have a right to get into alliances but the people decide whom to vote for.' There were some questions on Thackeray attending the opposition alliance INDIA meet on August 7 but Shinde refused to answer them. The Shiv Sena chief announced that his party had extended its unconditional support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming vice-presidential election. He affirmed that his party remained one of the oldest and most trusted allies of the NDA.

The Karnataka government has issued a 25-point Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in response to two alarming cases of water poisoning in government schools, one in Belagavi and another in Shivamogga. While both incidents raise grave concerns about child safety, the Belagavi incident is particularly sinister. Here, several students were hospitalised after a drinking water tank was poisoned in a communal plot to malign the school's Muslim headmaster and engineer his transfer. The three accused, including Sri Ram Sene leader Sagar Patil, have been remanded to judicial fact that children were targeted to further a hate-driven agenda exposes the grotesque extremes of religious fundamentalism. That the perpetrators believed they could act with such brazenness speaks of a deeper malaise: the normalisation of bigotry in politics. It is indeed concerning that when political ideologies turn into blind hatred, even innocent children are not spared. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has rightly questioned if Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik or BJP leaders like B Y Vijayendra and R Ashoka would take responsibility for the incident. Yet, the BJP's silence has been deafening – no condemnation, no demand for a probe, no outrage. When children's lives are endangered, selective outrage is not just hypocrisy; it is government's SOP is a welcome and necessary step. Headmasters are now required to inspect school premises before classes begin, check for contamination or odour in water, and ensure water tanks are locked. Lavatories must be kept clean, first-aid kits must be maintained, and inspection details updated daily on the Students' Achievement Tracking System (SATS) portal. The Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Block Education Officers (BEOs), and nodal officers are required to conduct regular checks. But this is not enough; the SOP will remain only on paper unless senior officers face consequences for lapses. Children should never be collateral damage in someone else's war; their lives should not be compromised, whether by poisoning, prejudice, or poor hygiene. However, the larger battle is against the ideological poison that has enabled this crime. The Belagavi incident cannot be seen as merely criminal. The accused should be prosecuted under the harshest laws. But beyond the courtroom, society must confront the hatred that fuels such violence. Politicians who stoke division, fringe groups that act with impunity, and citizens who remain indifferent are all to blame. The choice before us is clear: stand together and resist this toxic agenda or remain passive as hatred corrodes the very fabric of our society.

Bareilly, August 6, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Wednesday, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 545 development projects worth ₹2,264 crore in Nath Nagri, Bareilly. Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister launched a sharp critique of the opposition's politics of appeasement. He said that certain anti-social elements had conspired to tarnish the image of the Kanwar Yatra, but their attempts failed in the face of public awareness and proactive administrative efforts. Today, the Yatra stands as a symbol of social unity. Highlighting Bareilly's transformation, the Chief Minister said that lakhs of devotees now participate in Jalabhishek at the Nath Corridor, which is emerging as the new identity of the city. During the program, CM Yogi also handed over appointment letters to over 6,000 youth selected through the Rozgaar Mela, and distributed certificates and tablets to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. Referring to the Kanwar Yatra, he added, "Some individuals had tried to insult public sentiments and defame the tradition, but the alertness of society and the state's strong law-and-order machinery foiled such efforts." 'The double-engine BJP government is committed to blending heritage with development. Bareilly, which once suffered frequent communal riots before 2017, is now gaining fame for the Nath Corridor and spiritual tourism,' he stated. The Chief Minister emphasized that government schemes are now reaching every section of society without any discrimination based on caste, religion, or region. 'This is the new India, marching ahead with the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. Bareilly is progressing rapidly, and the double-engine government is striving to ensure happiness, prosperity, and inclusive development,' he said. CM Yogi informed that Bareilly has been gifted 545 development projects worth ₹2,264 crore. This includes the inauguration of 222 projects worth ₹1,258 crore and the laying of the foundation stone for 322 projects worth ₹1,004 crore. Key projects include the Nath Corridor, flood protection measures, bridges, bypass roads, road widening works, a Unani Medical College, rural drinking water supply schemes, as well as projects under the Power Department and Municipal Corporation. The Nath Corridor project will see the development of iconic temples such as Alakhnath, Tripathinath, Gopeshwarnath, and Pashupatinath into prominent centers of spiritual tourism. During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over appointment letters to more than 6,000 youth selected through the Rozgaar Mela. Encouraging young individuals to take advantage of the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Yojana, he highlighted that under the scheme, eligible youth are being provided with collateral-free, interest-free loans—starting from ₹5 lakh, increasing to ₹7.5 lakh upon timely repayment, and further up to ₹10 lakh. Taking a swipe at past regimes, CM Yogi Adityanath said that before 2017, government jobs were handed out like personal favours through 'uncle-nephew' networks and family ties. In sharp contrast, he noted, the current government has provided 8.5 lakh government jobs in the last eight years through a transparent, merit-based system — with over 12,000 posts secured by young women. He appealed to public representatives to honor the selected youth and their families publicly to inspire others and foster a culture of aspiration. 'Earlier, jobs were limited to a select family. Today, opportunities are available to every deserving youth, without any discrimination,' he asserted. Highlighting the law-and-order improvements, CM Yogi said, 'The state is now mafia-free and fear-free. Earlier, mafias used to be appointed district-wise; today, every district is being recognized for its progress—with initiatives like One District One Medical College and One District One Product.' He emphasized that the double-engine BJP government is integrating heritage with modern development. 'Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure is being transformed through enhanced connectivity—via expressways, highways, metro projects, airports, and flyovers,' he noted. Describing Bareilly as the sacred land of Lord Parshvanath, CM Yogi said that UP is the 'janmabhoomi and tapobhoomi' (birthplace and the place of enlightenment) of Lord Ram, Krishna, Buddha, and Jain Tirthankaras. 'We are preserving this spiritual heritage and integrating it with world-class infrastructure so that UP emerges as a leader not only spiritually and culturally but also economically.' The Chief Minister inaugurated new projects, including the Ramganga Flood Protection, widening of Sanda Pal Marg, Unani Medical College, Municipal Corporation Office, Power Department Building, and Gas Conservation Projects, and also laid the foundation stone for several others. CM Yogi also informed that, with central support, tourism development projects have been sanctioned for sites like Ramnagar Fort and Ahichhatra Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple. Reiterating the commitment to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, he emphasized that development benefits are being delivered to all citizens without any discrimination. Referring to his meeting earlier that morning with public representatives of Bareilly division, he said that the priorities for future projects are being shaped by their suggestions. These initiatives will accelerate development in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and Budaun. As a special gesture for women, CM Yogi announced free bus travel across the state on the occasion of Rakshabandhan (August 8, 9, and 10). This facility will be available in both city transport and UPSRTC buses, and will apply to women and their accompanying co-passenger. Underscoring the importance of civic responsibility, he also announced a special cleanliness campaign to be held before Independence Day and Janmashtami.
