Daily Mirror5 days ago
The much-loved daytime show has been given a huge announcement, as it celebrates being on air for 15 years
In its milestone 15th year broadcasting, Antiques Road Trip has secured another commission from BBC Daytime for a 32nd series on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Viewers of the beloved afternoon programme can look forward to 20 fresh episodes, featuring two rival antiques specialists battling it out weekly to discover the most lucrative collectables.

Adding to the excitement, the production company has also received the green light for a fifth series of The Travelling Auctioneers, which has proven popular since its 2022 debut.

A description states: "The show sees auctioneering experts join forces with masters of restoration to uncover neglected treasures in family homes which, with some TLC, can be turned into winning lots at auction."
For the fifth series, specialists Izzie Balmer, JB Broad and Bee Harford return, alongside restoration professionals JJ Chalmers, Robin Johnson, Lauren Wood and Saf Fakir, reports Edinburgh Live.

Specialist Izzie will also feature in the upcoming Antiques Road Trip series, going toe-to-toe with Mark Hill throughout a week's worth of episodes.
Speaking about her dual role, Izzie remarked: "The Antiques Road Trip and Travelling Auctioneers teams have become like family to me. In fact, I sometimes see them more than my actual family..
"I wouldn't have it any other way though, because these shows are great fun, full of heart, and have just the right amount of jeopardy to keep you on the edge of your seat... without spilling your cuppa! I know how much they mean to our viewers and I'm thrilled to be back filming on them both."

Muslim Alim, Commissioning Editor for BBC Daytime and Early Peak, expressed their excitement about the news: "These shows are TV gold packed with great stories, brilliant finds and led by experts in their field.
"Antiques Road Trip and The Travelling Auctioneers have become firm favourites with our audiences and it's easy to see why: they're warm, feel-good and endlessly entertaining. I'm absolutely thrilled we're bringing them back and hugely grateful to the top-tier talent at STV Studios who make them so special."
On the other hand, Craig Hunter, Creative Director of STV Studios Factual, said: "We're thrilled by the BBC's continued commitment to supporting these shows, which represents a strong vote of confidence in the Scottish production sector.
"Antiques Road Trip and The Travelling Auctioneers provide year-round employment for the freelance community, offering a great opportunity for new starts to the industry and career development across the board.
"We continue to refine both brands to produce more jeopardy, more expertise and even more entertainment for the daytime audience."

London Handel Players' pieces explore world of two Bachs and Telemann

**** A MILE or so on the Scottish side of the border, the London Handel Players brought a programme to Music at Paxton's Summer Festival that contained no Handel, but explored the world of two Bachs and Georg Philipp Telemann. The pieces by Johann Sebastian and his son Carl Philipp Emanuel were rooted in Germany, while two Telemann Quartets were linked by the composer's visits to Paris and his seizing control of his work from pirated publication there. In these performances, with the variations in dynamics second nature to the players, it was easy to hear why the music was sufficiently popular to make stealing it worthwhile. The following evening's clever concert by the Chloe Piano Trio then demonstrated how philanthropy sustained a flowering of musical talent in the French capital nearly two centuries later. The ensemble playing of the LHP quartet, led by violinist Adrian Butterfield, was superb, from the opening arrangement of a Bach organ trio through to the opera aria that gave a brief nod to the composer in their name as an encore. Read More: The singer's role in that was taken by flautist Rachel Brown and her playing on a baroque instrument provided the recital's standout moment in JSB's Flute Sonata in E Minor. On Saturday evening, veteran actor Maggie Steed turned Paxton's exquisite Picture Gallery into the Paris salon of Princesse Edmond de Polignac, the married name of sewing machine heiress Winnaretta Singer, whose 'at homes' featured new works by Satie, Stravinsky, Faure, Ravel and Debussy alongside classical chamber music. Festival director Angus Smith's script gave Steed a platform to create a vivid picture of the colourful American music-lover and the young Chloe Piano Trio one to showcase their individual and collective virtuosity, ranging from Beethoven to Lili Boulanger via all five of those listed above and closing with the unfairly neglected Cecile Chaminade. Perhaps the precise chronology of the evening's narrative would not stand close examination, but no one would have dared to contradict Steed's assertive American princess. The musicians - Dutch cellist Jobine Siekman and Romanians Maria Gilicel and George Todica on violin and piano - are a very fine group indeed, who presented their own programme of complete works on Music at Paxton 2025's closing day.

BBC gameshow Destination X start date, line-up, host and how to watch

The BBC is launching a thrilling new gameshow - here's everything you need to know. Rob Brydon is set to host a thrilling new gameshow on the BBC, where 13 strangers will compete for a £100,000 prize. ‌ The 60-year-old Gavin and Stacey actor will direct Destination X, a show that takes contestants on a mysterious European road trip. ‌ Drawing comparisons to The Traitors and Race Across The World, the participants are whisked around Europe without any knowledge of their location or destination, as they try to decipher truth from lies amidst the clues they're given. ‌ Each day involves travelling on a bus with sensory deprivation and no contact with the outside world. They must then attempt to figure out their location based on a series of peculiar clues. Only the most astute will be able to separate the red herrings from the genuine hints. As the game progresses, players are gradually eliminated based on how far off their location guesses are, until only the winner remains, bagging a £100,000 prize, reports Wales Online. ‌ "It's the adventure of a lifetime, with one simple question at its heart: where in the world am I? Rob Brydon masterminds the high-stakes competition where nothing is as it seems...," teases the synopsis. When does Destination X start? The first episode of Destination X will air on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday, July 30, at 9pm. Rob hosts the UK version of Destination X, while Jeffrey Dean Morgan of The Walking Dead hosts the US version. ‌ Speaking of the appeal of doing the show, Rob previously revealed: "I love the thought of the scale of it, because I've never done anything in television with that scale. We go all over Europe to some fantastic places, so the appeal was working on a show of that scale." He added that he took some inspiration from The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman, saying: "I did look to Claudia on The Traitors, I love the lightness of touch there... I didn't want to get in the way of the show, so I was very aware of that. I just wanted to be the bridge between the viewer and the contestants, because people say this, but it's true, they are the stars. "Their personalities really come out over the course of the series, and for me, watching that first one, you see the beginnings of relationships and people's characters blossom." How to watch Destination X? Destination X will air on BBC One and iPlayer, beginning on Wednesday, July 30 at 9pm, with two episodes dropping each week.
