had announced repealing of the NALA Act during the third district collectors' conference in March.
The decision to repeal the Act has been taken the grievances of real-estate developers and commoners into consideration. The cabinet sub-committee reviewed the progress on the issue and directed the officials to immediately prepare proposals to simplify land conversion by allowing automatic conversion upon payment of taxes, eliminating the need to visit multiple offices.
Speaking to media, the finance minister said they have asked the officials to prepare proposals detailing how land conversion can be simplified for those setting up ventures in municipalities or establishing industries, ensuring minimal bureaucratic hassle. "We will discuss these proposals in the next meeting, and take a final call on the issue," said Keshav.
Minister Narayana explained that the decision to repeal the Act was taken to alleviate public inconvenience. He said that several organisations had raised objections to the high NALA tax rates. He said that they have asked the officials to propose how much the tax can be reduced on the existing rates.

The 1973 law granted DC a degree of self-government, allowing residents to elect a mayor and council, while keeping certain powers with Congress and the president. The Act allows the president to take control of the police if 'special conditions of an emergency nature exist.' Trump previously threatened to do this in 2020. The president can take control for 48 hours, or up to 30 days if Congress is notified. Trump said he plans to extend the takeover beyond 48 hours. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser pushed back: 'Let me be clear. Chief Pamela Smith is the chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, and its 3,100 members work under her direction. Nothing about our organisational chart has changed. And nothing in the executive order would indicate otherwise.' The US Army said 'between 100-200 soldiers will be supporting law enforcement at any given time,' handling administrative, logistics, and public safety tasks. The Guard will operate under Title 32 status — federally funded but locally controlled — and not bound by the Posse Comitatus Act. DC crime statistics show violent offences fell from 2023 to 2024, with 2025 continuing the trend: homicides down 12 per cent, assaults with dangerous weapons down 20 per cent. Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian national, is a close associate of main 26/11 conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani, an American citizen. He was extradited from the United States after the US Supreme Court on April 4 dismissed his review plea against the extradition. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) produced Rana via video conference after his earlier judicial custody, set to end on August 13, expired. The case is currently at the stage of document scrutiny following the agency's filing of a supplementary chargesheet. On July 15, the court heard his application seeking a telephonic call with his family. Rana faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, waging war against India, and planning terrorist acts under the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Uttar Pradesh court orders FIR against Union MoS for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, four others in land dispute case
A court in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district has directed the police to register an FIR against Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, his representative Rajesh Singh and three others in connection with an alleged land dispute case. According to officials, the order was issued on Monday (August 11, 2025) by Special Judge of the MP-MLA Court (Civil Judge, Senior Division) Apeksha Singh, who instructed Mankapur police station to lodge an FIR against Kirti Vardhan Singh, Rajesh Singh, Pinku Singh, Sahdev Yadav and Kanti Singh. The complainant, Ajay Singh, a resident of Bhitoura in the Mankapur area, had moved the court under Section 173(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, seeking registration of a case against the accused. Ajay Singh has alleged that land registered in the name of his wife Manisha Singh was fraudulently transferred again by influencing and luring the original seller, Bittan Devi, to execute a backdated sale deed in favour of Mithlesh Rastogi and Kanti Singh using a three-year-old stamp paper. He claimed that when he complained, the Superintendent of Police ordered an inquiry, which confirmed the allegations. Based on the SP's directions, police registered a case in 2024 against the seller and the buyers under relevant sections, but later filed a final report closing the matter. Ajay Singh said he objected to the closure, and in March 2025, the court set aside the final report and ordered further investigation, which is still underway. In the meantime, Rajesh Singh allegedly lodged a false case against Ajay Singh and his wife at the local police station in 2024. After the court's order for further investigation, Rajesh Singh allegedly used his political influence to harass the couple, they said. Through his driver Rinku Singh, he purportedly got another case registered against the couple under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with the aim of pressuring them to settle the dispute. Ajay Singh alleged that since then, the accused have been threatening him to stop pursuing cases related to the disputed land and agree to a settlement, warning that his family would be killed if he refused. He said that despite repeated complaints to the police, no action was taken, prompting him to approach the court. Reacting to the development, Rajesh Singh, the Union Minister's representative, said he had come to know about the matter through the media and would comment only after receiving a copy of the court order.
