2025 NFL, CFB, MLB Best Bets, Predictions By Chris 'The Bear' Fallica
There's something incredibly special about fall sports.
Between college football, NFL and MLB postseason, there is fun to be had for all — particularly when it comes to laying a few wagers.
That's where I come in.
One of the wagers below features Kyle Shanahan, and it's what I believe to be a really solid bet.
Let's take a look at where I'm sprinkling my cash this week.
Penn State to make the CFP
This is my favorite bet in college football this season. No team in the sport is more predictable or trustworthy than Penn State, which usually hammers the teams it is supposed to, and loses to top-five, top-10-type teams.
This puts the Nittany Lions at a 10-2 floor, as they have both Oregon and Ohio State on the slate.
The Oregon game is at State College, so let's say PSU wins that game. Maybe the game at Iowa is tricky? Potentially lose at Ohio State? That's it.
Even the detractors of Drew Allar have to think Penn State is returning to the College Football Playoff behind a powerful running game and elite defense, even without Abdul Carter. Some people do not like laying a price like this, but I have no issue doing so.
A 10-2 record and a CFP berth for Penn State — book it.

Kyle Shanahan to win Coach of the Year
Just about everything that could go wrong for the 49ers last year did. Injuries to Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams and others. Blown late leads.
It was just one of those years in the Bay after another agonizing Super Bowl loss.
There isn't a ton of depth here, but injury luck doesn't tend to repeat itself in consecutive years, meaning expect the Niners to be healthier this season. The schedule is about as easy as could be coming off a 6-11 season, and, with a win total of 10.5, the Niners are supposed to be good.
Robert Saleh returns to San Francisco to coach a defense that has played as if it missed his leadership over the last couple of seasons. Maybe Shanahan doesn't fit the mold of a young head coach or a head coach from a team that's going to surprise, but there's a chance the Niners could post something like 12-5 and win the division, given that schedule, especially if the concerns over Rams QB Matthew Stafford are realized.
I just don't get how guys like Aaron Glenn are shorter-priced in this market, given how the Jets are going to win like six games.

Clayton McCullough to win NL Manager of the Year
Okay, by now we've all made the joke, "Can you name the Marlins manager?"
But Clayton McCullough and the Marlins might be getting the last laugh.
The former Dodgers first-base coach has Miami on the cusp of a .500 record after sweeping the Yankees. While it might be a little too much to ask him to reach the playoffs given the strength of the current NL wild cards, it's not unreasonable to think he's in the mix for NL Manager of the Year consideration.
This has been a lineup and rotation in flux all season and if Miami actually got some decent pitching from Sandy Alcántara in the first half of the season, it might actually have a legit chance at a wild card.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy is a big favorite here, and I guess he should be. But in terms of doing more with less, McCullough certainly deserves consideration if the Marlins finish with a winning record.
Obviously, I'm late to the party here in terms of the number, but I'll jump in now in case they continue this hot streak.

David Bednar goes longer than expected for his 1st Yankees save to end their 5-game skid
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — David Bednar got his first save for the New York Yankees after going a little longer than expected, and ended their five-game losing streak before going home. Bednar got the final five outs, all on strikeouts, in their 3-2 win at Texas on Wednesday. The game-ending one came with two runners on base after manager Aaron Boone had gone to the mound with the intention of pulling the right-hander that New York acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline last Thursday. 'I said, 'I'm going to take you here.' And he gave me a look like, no you're not,' Boone said. 'He absolutely wanted the ball and, you know, felt like his stuff was still there. ... What a great, gutsy effort." Bednar's 18th save overall this season came in his third appearance for the Yankees (61-54), who remained ahead of Texas for the American League's third and final wild-card spot. They have a day off before opening a three-game series against AL West-leading Houston at home on Friday night after Bednar's first two series with New York were on the road. Bednar had two strikeouts to end the eighth and two more to open the ninth before Corey Seager walked on six pitches and Marcus Semien grounded a 3-1 pitch through the right side of the infield for a single. Bednar, already at a season-high 36 pitches and with cleanup hitter Adolis García headed to the plate, initially didn't see his new manager walking toward him. 'I was just kind of getting my mind right to face García,' Bednar said. 'I told (Boone) I wanted him and, you know, he agreed. And I just wanted to bear down and get that last one.' Bednar struck out García, finishing with a season-high 42 pitches for his most since 43 in an eight-out save for the Pirates at St. Louis on June 15, 2022. It was the third time this season Bednar recorded five outs, and the second in his week with the Yankees. 'That was awesome, especially that last one,' said Paul Goldschmidt, whose pinch-hit solo homer in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie. Smiling through: Alcaraz won't let Wimbledon defeat get him down
Carlos Alcaraz says he has refused to let his Wimbledon finals loss to Jannik Sinner wipe the smile from his face as he prepares for his start at the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters. The world number two, who was defeated in a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career in London last month, spent his first full day at the Cincinnati site on Wednesday and said he is ready for a reboot during the second half of the season. "Even if I lost, I left the court proud after Wimbledon," the 2023 Cincinnati finalist said. "But the goals can change during the second half of the season. "My goal is to keep doing the right thing and improving. I want to enjoy my time on and off the court. "But I also want to try and recover the number one ranking by the end of the year," he added. The world number two, who joined the top-ranked Sinner in skipping the ATP Toronto Masters, said he spent a refreshing three weeks at home in Spain after his Wimbledon defeat. Broncos salary cap update after Courtland Sutton and Zach Allen extensions
Going into training camp two weeks ago, the Denver Broncos had a little more than $12.5 million in salary cap space. After making four roster moves and giving contract extensions to wide receiver Courtland Sutton and defensive lineman Zach Allen, the team has around $5,545,012 remaining, according to an estimate from Allen will have a salary cap hit of $14.345 million this season and Sutton will have a cap hit of $13.9 million. Allen's cap charge will skyrocket to $28.625 million in 2026 while Sutton's will take a small jump up to $13.975 million. Allen and Sutton are the team's third- and fourth-biggest cap hits this year, only behind guard Ben Powers ($17.425 million) and right tackle Mike McGlinchey ($23.775 million). The team's biggest cap bargains this season include running back J.K. Dobbins ($2.065 million), safety Talanoa Hufanga ($3,411,765) and quarterback Bo Nix ($4,230,265). Other players who could be next in line for extensions include outside linebacker Nik Bonitto and defensive linemen John Franklin-Myers and Malcolm Roach.
