Yankees' Aaron Boone Announces Giancarlo Stanton News After Loss to Guardians

Yankees' Aaron Boone Announces Giancarlo Stanton News After Loss to Guardians originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees (37-23) have played well without slugger Giancarlo Stanton (elbows) so far, as they're 5.5 games ahead atop the AL East heading into Thursday's matchup with the Cleveland Guardians (33-27). However, the 35-year-old could give them the extra push they need to secure the AL's top seed. Advertisement Stanton mashed 27 homers and notched 72 RBI in 114 regular-season games last year before slashing .273/.339/.709 with seven homers and 16 RBI in 14 playoff contests. The designated hitter has 18 homers and 40 RBI in 41 career postseason games, all with New York. Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided an update about Stanton's rehab on Thursday, via The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (27).© Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images "Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton could possibly begin a rehab assignment next week," he reported. Stanton hasn't played 140 games in a season since 2021 and hasn't hit 30-plus homers in a season since 2022. The Miami Marlins, then called the Florida Marlins, selected Stanton No. 76 overall in the 2007 MLB Draft. The five-time All-Star got called up in June 2010 and hit 30-plus homers in three of his next four seasons. He also won the NL MVP award in 2017 after slashing .281/.376/.631 with 59 homers and 132 RBI in 159 games. Advertisement The Marlins then dealt Stanton to the Yankees in December 2017 for infielder Starlin Castro, two minor leaguers, and cash considerations. He won the 2024 ALCS MVP award, helping New York beat the Guardians in five games. Left-handed pitcher Max Fried (7-1, 1.92 ERA) will start for the Yankees on Thursday night. Baltimore Orioles Jump Three Spots In MLB Power Rankings

Baltimore Orioles Jump Three Spots In MLB Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Fans who stroll into Orioles Park at Camden Yards have been waiting for some good news, and good play from the Baltimore Orioles this season. After a horrible start that led to manager Brandon Hyde's firing, it looks like Baltimore is working hard to right their ship. Advertisement And who's been the big cog to help them? None other than Jackson Holliday, whose been making the leadoff spot in the Orioles' lineup his new home. Holliday's efforts, along with some better overall play, helped the Orioles jump from No. 27 to No. 24 in the latest MLB Power Rankings, according to Holliday, from that leadoff spot, is smashing the ball at a .287 clip. That's good news for Baltimore. But it didn't help the good vibes as the Orioles lost two of three games against the Athletics recently. Baltimore Orioles have work to do in order to get back into AL East Division discussion Talk about a downer. Well, Baltimore is still working hard to get out of the hole in the American League East Division. It's going to take a lot of work on the Orioles' part. Advertisement Their starting pitching remains so-so as interim manager Tony Mansolino looks to find some magic among his arms. Thankfully, Mansolino and the rest of the Orioles get to watch Holliday work his magic every night. Holliday is just 22 years old, and he's going to get better. That's something Orioles fans hope to see not only in this current hot stretch, but throughout the summer months. What are the Orioles' goals this week? Probably to keep pulling themselves up and out of the doldrums. That difficult start to the 2025 season didn't do Baltimore any favors. Now, their work this summer begins in earnest this week. Roman Anthony's first MLB hit is a 2-run double that propels Red Sox past Rays

Roman Anthony's second MLB game went better than his first. And it helped lead the Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Anthony went 0-for-4 with an RBI and an error in his MLB debut on Monday, just hours after the Red Sox called up the No. 1 prospect in baseball. The Red Sox lost to the Rays 10-8. Advertisement On Tuesday, Anthony got to work in his first at-bat. With runners on second and third in the bottom of the first inning, he faced an outside changeup from Rays starter Ryan Pepiot on a 1-2 count. Anthony swung and sent a line drive down the left-field line that rolled to the outfield wall. Two runs scored, and Anthony reached second for a go-ahead double on his first MLB hit. Not a bad way to start the career highlight reel. The runs off of Anthony's bat turned out to be all the Red Sox needed to secure the 3-1 win. Anthony finished 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a strikeout. Can Anthony help Sox compete in AL East? A Red Sox team sitting near the bottom of the AL East standings (32-36 before Tuesday's game) and in need of an offensive injection called Anthony up from Triple-A Worcester following an injury to right fielder Wilyer Abreu. A 21-year-old outfielder, Anthony is filling in for Abreu in right and batting fifth in the Red Sox's lineup. Advertisement Just two nights prior to his call-up, Anthony showed off part of what makes him such a tantalizing prospect with a 497-foot grand slam for Worcester that was longer than any MLB home run this season. The Red Sox are certainly hoping he can build off Tuesday's breakthrough and provide a boost in the AL playoff race.
