Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, Family Hiding In Bunker As Israel-Iran Battle Escalates: Report
Last Updated:
Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei has reportedly been relocated to an underground bunker in Lavizan, northeastern Tehran, along with his family, amid intensifying Israeli airstrikes.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been moved to an underground bunker in northeastern Tehran, Iran International reported. Quoting sources, the report also stated that all members of Khamenei's family, including his son, Mojtaba, were also with him.
The development comes as Israel and Iran kept up their attacks, killing and wounding civilians and raising concern among world leaders meeting in Canada this week that the biggest battle between the two old enemies could lead to a broader regional conflict.
The Iranian death toll in four days of Israeli strikes, carried out with the declared aim of wiping out Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, had reached at least 224, with 90% of the casualties reported to be civilians, an Iranian health ministry spokesperson said.
According to the report, Khamenei was in an underground bunker in Lavizan.
It also claimed that Khamenei's family was taken to the bunker previously during the previous operations against Israel as well.
The report also claimed that Sunday's Israeli airstrike on the city of Mashhad in Iran was a warning to Khamenei that he is not safe anywhere in the country.
The report quoted a diplomatic source and claimed that Israel could have eliminated Khamenei on the first night of the operation, but the Israeli government chose to keep him alive to give him a final chance to decide on completely dismantling the Islamic Republic's uranium enrichment program.
Explosions shook Tel Aviv on Sunday during Iran's first daylight missile attack since Israel's strike on Friday. Shortly after nightfall, Iranian missiles hit a residential street in Haifa, a mixed Jewish-Arab city, and in Israel's south.
In Bat Yam, a city near Tel Aviv, residents braced on Sunday evening for another sleepless night after an overnight strike on an apartment tower.
Meanwhile, in Washington, two US officials told Reuters that President Donald Trump had vetoed an Israeli plan in recent days to kill Khamenei.
Israel began the assault with a surprise attack on Friday that wiped out the top echelon of Iran's military command and damaged its nuclear sites, and says the campaign will escalate in the coming days.
The intelligence chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Kazemi, and his deputy were killed in attacks on Tehran on Sunday, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said.
Iran has vowed to 'open the gates of hell" in retaliation.

‘Fabricated, irresponsible': Pakistan denies claim it would strike Israel with nukes if Iran attacked
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday termed as 'fabricated' a video clip circulating online of an Iranian general who said that Islamabad had assured Tehran that Pakistan would nuke Israel if it attacked Iran with nuclear weapons. "There is a video on social media where an Iranian general was quoted as saying: 'If Israel nuke attacks Iran, then Pakistan will attack [Israel] with nuclear weapons',' Dar, also the Deputy Prime Minister, told Parliament. 'This is irresponsible and false news,' he said, adding that the claims had become viral on the internet and that even a UK news outlet picked it up. 'From our side, there has been no such statement. It was fabricated,' Dar said, adding that Pakistan's nuclear policy had not changed since 1998. 'Even at that time, we said that it is Pakistan's stated policy. It is for the purpose of self-defence. It is our deterrence. It was important for parity, peace and security in this region,' he said. 'Israel dare not look at Pakistan. Pakistan has enough power to respond to any malafide [action]. Our armed forces are fully alert,' he said.

Why can't Israel destroy this Iranian nuclear site which is dubbed as 'indestructible fortress'? Site is..., will require US...
(Centrifuge machines in the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in central Iran in 2019. AP) New Delhi: Israel is bent on destroying Iran's nuclear bases with full force. Israeli Air Force is continuously bombing different parts of Iran including Tehran to which Tehran is also replying. There has been devastation in cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa. Many areas have been shaken by Iran's destructive advanced ballistic missiles. Amidst all this, at least 14 nuclear scientists of Iran have been killed in Israeli attacks. But in this entire campaign, one place is still standing firm, that is Fordo Nuclear Fuel Enrichment Plant, which is not only the heart of Iran's nuclear capability but has now become a puzzle that even powerful countries like Israel are unable to solve. Although Israel has bombed here too, but now the whole world is watching whether Israel will be able to break this fortress? Fordo nuclear plant Fordo is not an ordinary nuclear plant, but it is hidden inside a hill 20 miles from the city of Qom in central Iran and about 100 miles from Tehran. It is called the fortress of Iran's nuclear programme, because it is built so deep in the hill that it is not easy to break it. Its structure has made it a 'nuclear fortress'. It is very difficult to break it only by bombing, rather scientific methods and deep strategy will have to be used to break it. Many experts believe that Israel is trying to do the same. This hideout is located in the base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), and to break it, insanely powerful bunker buster bombs will be needed which can be dropped from American B-2 bombers and this is the reason why the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is repeatedly asking for help from America. Construction of Fordow, a fortress Iran knows that Israel can cross every limit to destroy Fordow. That is why it has built it very cleverly by surrounding it with air defense systems. If Israel really wants to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities, then it will have to destroy Fordow. Its biggest strength is its design. It is dug deep inside the mountains, most of which is 90 meters below the earth's surface. In 2009, when the intelligence agencies of America, France and Britain revealed its existence, the world was stunned. Uranium enrichment started here in 2011 and today this site generates up to 60% pure uranium. That means Iran is just one step away from making nuclear bomb. What makes Fordo almost indestructible? Israel has bunker busters like GBU-28 and GBU-31 that can penetrate concrete up to a depth of about 6–10 meters. But to destroy Fordo, a bomb that can penetrate up to 61 meters is needed, which only America's GBU-57 MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) can do. America can destroy Fordo by dropping GBU-57 MOP bombs from its B-2 bomber, but politically it does not want to get involved in this conflict. Apart from this, Fordo is a symbol of Iran's strategic prestige and ideology. It is under the tight security of IRGC, where air defense systems like S-300, underground tunnels, multi-layer shields and electronic jamming systems are present. This is the reason why any attack on Fordo is not possible. A single attack, be it cyber, missile or ground operation, will not work alone. To destroy it, it will have to be attacked simultaneously at many levels, and that too repeatedly.

Bad news for Israel and US as Iran proposes 'Islamic Army' to fight against Israel; Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are now...
(File) Iran-Israel war: In a significant turn of event in the ongoing war between Iran and Israel, a senior military officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has called on Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to form an 'Islamic army' to fight Israel. 'We want to form an Islamic army together with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and many other countries', Mohsen Rezai told Iranian media about the Islamic army they want to form. 'Pakistan has assured us that if Israel uses nuclear bomb on Iran, they will attack Israel with nuclear bomb. Israel has targeted Iran, Yemen and Palestine. If Muslim countries do not unite now, everyone will suffer the same fate', Mohsen Rezai added in his comment. The statment from the senior IRGC senior military officer gained more significance after Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called on Muslim countries to launch a united initiative against Israel in his speech addressing Pakistan's National Assembly on June 14.
