Umno Youth chief urges sacked leaders to ‘set aside ego', says willing to bridge return of Khairy, Hishammuddin and Shahril
Sinar Harian quoted him saying Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had expressed his willingness to accept appeal letters from those affected by disciplinary actions.
'We need them. As I said earlier, Umno belongs to everyone and must be united again,' he said, referring to suspended or sacked Umno leaders.
'But on one condition – everyone must set aside their ego, love the party, and God willing, Umno will grow stronger,' he added.
Dr Akmal said he was ready to act as a bridge to bring back suspended leaders Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan into the party.
He said his only goal was to ensure Umno remained strong as a family.
'Umno is a family for all. Those who were disciplined have contributed, and we cannot forget that,' he reportedly said, adding that unity in Umno cannot come from one side alone.
Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said it would be up to the Umno Supreme Council to decide whether to reduce or revoke Sembrong MP Hishammuddin's suspension.
Earlier reports indicated that the Sembrong Umno Division had proposed reinstating Hishammuddin's membership to strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming general election.
Hishammuddin's Umno membership was suspended for six years, or two supreme council election terms, starting January 27, 2023.

Zahid: TVET no longer last resort for higher education
KUALA LUMPUR: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is no longer considered a last resort in pursuing education. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this was reflected in the rising number of applicants each year and the existence of an accredited masters and doctorate programme for professional practice. "Today, Alhamdulillah, TVET has come a long way in dispelling the outdated perception that it is a last resort in pursuing education. "In the context of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency's (MQA) regulatory oversight, for the first time, Malaysia has introduced high-level TVET — namely, TVET at the masters and doctorate levels. "I would like to express my gratitude to MQA for approving the Master of Professional Practice and the Doctor of Professional Practice at Malaysian Skill Certificate (SKM) levels seven and eight. "This reflects MQA's highly contemporary mindset, actions, and practices — and it is precisely why I felt it was essential to attend tonight's event," he said in his speech at the MQA awards. Zahid said TVET graduates can now progress to the highest academic levels without structural barriers. "We are determined to place TVET on equal footing with other academic fields, without compromising quality or standards, with the aim of producing graduates sought after across all industries, both locally and internationally," he said. Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development minister said that the government was in the midst of amending the National Skills Development Act 2006 to provide a pathway for TVET graduates to pursue acadmic pathways.

Zahid extends condolences over killings of Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has extended his condolences to the families of five Al Jazeera media personnel killed in an Israeli military strike in Gaza City. In a Facebook post today, the deputy prime minister said the five — Anas al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammed Noufal — died while carrying out a noble duty. This, he said, was to convey the truth and report the real situation on the ground to open the world's eyes to the suffering of the Palestinian people. "Their courage and sacrifice are proof that the struggle for justice will never fade, even when life is at stake. "I would like to express my deepest condolences to all the victims' families and strongly condemn this heinous act, which clearly violates international humanitarian law," he said. Zahid reaffirmed that Malaysia would continue to speak out on the world stage, fight for justice for the Palestinian people, and demand an immediate end to attacks on journalists and humanitarian workers. "May their souls be blessed with mercy and placed among the martyrs," he added. It was reported today that two journalists and three cameramen were killed on Sunday after their tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in western Gaza City was attacked by Israel.

Bangladesh Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus visits Malaysia for official talks
SEPANG: The Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, Dr Muhammad Yunus, arrived in Malaysia today for a three-day official visit. He was invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss key bilateral matters. The commercial flight carrying Yunus and his delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 7.47 pm. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail welcomed them at the Bunga Raya Complex of KLIA. Yunus inspected a guard of honour consisting of 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment. The visit reciprocates Anwar's official trip to Bangladesh in October 2024, according to Wisma Putra. Tomorrow, Yunus will attend an official welcoming ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex. He will then hold a bilateral meeting with Anwar to review Malaysia-Bangladesh relations. Key discussion areas include trade, investment, labour, education, tourism, and defence. Both leaders will also exchange views on regional and international developments. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed during the visit. The MoUs cover defence, energy, strategic studies, semiconductor capacity building, and trade promotion. An Exchange of Notes will also be signed for diplomatic training and higher education. Anwar will host an official luncheon at Seri Perdana Complex in honour of Yunus and his delegation. On Wednesday, Yunus will deliver a public lecture at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He will also be conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Business by UKM. Yunus will engage with members of the Yunus Social Business Centre community during his visit. In 2024, Malaysia-Bangladesh trade reached RM13.35 billion, marking a 5.1 per cent increase from 2023. Bangladesh is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner in South Asia. Major Malaysian exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals. Imports from Bangladesh consist of textiles, footwear, and manufactured goods.
