'It's an insanely ambitious story that's massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that's kind of our bag ... This is why we go to the movies. And I'm not just saying it because I'm in it. I'm also saying it because I'm a producer on the film," Gosling said about the film, at a CinemaCon event in Vegas, where the trailer had first been screened.

Upon being told several stars, including the sun, are dying for an unknown reason, Ryland is then informed that the world needs him due to his specific knowledge.
"It's 11.9 light-years away. The astronauts ... die in space?" Ryland asks.
"It's what you Americans would call a long shot," says his superior, Eva Stratt (
Sandra Hüller
), to which Ryland responds, "Hail Mary. I get it."
While discussing the mission, Ryland stresses that he has no experience with space despite his doctorate in molecular biology, saying, "I put the 'not' in 'astronaut!' I've never done anything [space-related] — I can't even moonwalk!' "

"If we do nothing, everything on this planet will go extinct," Eva tells him. "You are my solution." "I understand the stakes — I do. But my place is in the classroom," Ryland also says — but Eva counters, "The world is counting on you."
After waking up from a coma inside the spaceship and seemingly not remembering how he got there or why, Ryland eventually comes to terms with his mission — and surroundings, according to PEOPLE.
The trailer also shows 'Anatomy of a Fall' fame Sandra Hüller as a government agent, persuading Gosling to undertake a bleak misssion to save a dying Earth, in a manner reminiscent of 'Interstellar'
"I put the 'not' in 'astronaut'," his character Ryland Grace says in response—immediately bringing attention to the fact that this film would be a different kind of ride.

Oscar-winning filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) directed Project Hail Mary, from a script by Drew Goddard (The Martian). Project Hail Mary is in theaters and IMAX March 20, 2026.
Three-time Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling was last seen in 'The Fall Guy', alongside Emily Blunt, and 'Barbie', alongside Margot Robbie—both of which performed quite well at the box office.
The trailer has been met with widespread enthusiasm online, with fans eager to see the adaptation of Andy Weir's best-selling novel brought to life.

One viewer shared, 'For a while I was worried about how this would turn out. I'm no longer worried, now I'm just excited (sic).' Another praised the creative team and cast, writing, 'This looks perfect!!!!! Lord & Miller and their cast and crew seemed to have COOKED! March 2026 can't come soon enough (sic)!'
A third fan reflected on their experience with the book and excitement for the film: 'This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. I picked it up at an airport bookstore and couldn't put it down until I finished—it had me hooked the entire way through. I'm so glad the movie kept that same sharp comedic tone, and Ryan Gosling is absolutely perfect in the lead role. I couldn't have asked for a better adaptation (sic).'

Happy to be his wingman, says Papa, Shux's backup astronaut

'Papa' (Below right) Group Captain Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair, known fondly as Papa, may not be aboard the International Space Station (ISS) this time, but he's soaring with pride. As the designated backup to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla (Shux), who is currently making history as the first Indian to fly to the ISS, Papa says he's happy to be his wingman. The camaraderie runs deep between the two IAF pilots, both trained test pilots, who were selected for India's human spaceflight programme under Gaganyaan. Their journey together over the last ten months has not only forged a powerful professional bond but will also shape India's future human spaceflight. 'Shux is a fantastic guy,' Papa said ahead of Shux's docking, in a video shared by Axiom Space. 'We met a few years ago through our work as fighter and test pilots. I'm actually nine years older than him… Over the last ten months of training, it's been deeply satisfying for me to be his wingman — if I may use a bit of fighter pilot lingo.' Papa speaks of Shukla with admiration, highlighting his razor-sharp focus. 'Once he decides on a goal — like becoming the first Indian to reach the ISS — he clears out all distractions and gives it his all. And that's exactly what's got him there.' Yet, Papa's own path has been no less significant. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo As Shukla's backup, he trained alongside him every step of the way. That training, Papa believes, has not only prepared both of them for individual missions but has also laid a broader foundation for the future of Indian spaceflight. 'It never felt like work. It was more like one big, exciting picnic, though a professional one,' he says, describing the extensive, rigorous training that involved collaboration with Axiom Space, Nasa, ESA, SpaceX, and other international partners. 'To train with legends like Peggy Whitson was just marvellous.' He recalls the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) training experience in the US with particular fondness. 'We kayaked through rough weather, survived with limited resources, and what we learnt was this: your real strength in space is your teammate.' That, he says, is the very essence of space missions. 'It's not just about knowing someone's strengths, but also their limitations so that you're ready to step in, support and cover. That's what makes a crew solid.' Among his favourite parts of training? The food. 'An army marches on its stomach, and astronauts too fly on theirs,' he jokes. 'The space food training was a highlight for me.' While Shukla currently has the nation's gaze, Papa is quick to acknowledge the collective spirit behind their journey. 'I want to give a big shout-out to my Prime Minister, Isro chairman, my wife Leena, daughter Nandini, and my parents. And of course, to all my fellow Indians.' Though grounded for now, Papa's eyes remain on the skies. While Papa is happy to play wingman on this mission, one has to wait and see if may be in the pilot's seat when India launches Gaganyaan.

With a population of 250, Western Ghats tree species faces fungal threat

Kochi: Kerala Forest Research Institute identified a fungal infection in Dipterocarpus bourdillonii, known as Chiratta-anjili, Kalpayin and Karanjili, a plant species already in the critically endangered category of the IUCN Red List. Endemic to the Western Ghats, there are around 250 mature individual trees of this species, found in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, as last assessed in 2020. Most of them are seen in the wild in Kerala. Posing a threat to the survival of this species, the infection was found in the leaves, which will affect the productivity of the trees. Dr Shambhu Kumar, principal scientist and head of the forest pathology department at KFRI, along with Dr Raghvendra Singh, senior assistant professor in the department of botany at Banaras Hindu University, detected an emerging leaf spot and blight disease affecting the Karanjili. The disease-causing pathogen (phytopathogen) was identified as Corynespora cassiicola based on morpho-cultural characteristics and molecular phylogenetic evidence. Dr Kumar stated that the fungal infection on the leaves will affect the photosynthetic capacity and its ability to produce energy, thereby adversely affecting the health of the tree. "It plays a vital ecological role in maintaining rainforest canopy structure and supporting biodiversity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Economically, its hardwood is valued for construction and furniture, while its oleoresin (wood oil) has traditional medicinal and industrial uses. Due to overexploitation and habitat loss, the species already faces severe threats. The emergence of this additional biotic threat further underscores the urgent need for conservation measures to protect and restore its dwindling population," Dr Kumar said. Dr P A Jose, a former scientist at KFRI who studied this species earlier, said this needs extreme care; otherwise, it will lead to extinction. "The main reason for the species falling into the critically endangered category is its very low natural regeneration capacity because of a non-viable embryo. Prior to the British regime, this species did not require conservation priority as there was a good number of populations. It was harvested for the softwood industry and habitat degeneration also led to the declining population," Dr Jose said. Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary has a good number of existing populations. It is an evergreen population species.
