GEN Z are turning their backs on mum's old recipe books and getting their food inspo from TikTok instead – with nearly three in four saying social media decides what's for dinner.
A sizzling 72 per cent of 18–27-year-olds now plan their meals based on what they see online, with TikTok leading the charge at 84 per cent, followed closely by Instagram at 75 per cent.

That's more than double the number who rely on traditional cookbooks, which are only used by 32 per cent.
Even family and friends are taking a back seat, with just 45 per cent turning to real-life chats for food ideas.
When it comes to trust, influencers are king, 44 per cent of Gen Z say they're the most reliable source for food content, ahead of celeb chefs at 39 per cent and even cooking channels at 34 per cent.
And the influence doesn't stop at inspiration.
Around 42 per cent say they've actually bought ingredients after seeing them on social media.
Discount codes and affiliate links are key drivers, with many saying it saves them from writing shopping lists, searching online, or even leaving the house.
For this generation, convenience is everything.
The average Gen Z spends nearly four hours a week watching food-related content online, from viral snack hacks to bizarre creations like pancake cereal and roast dinner wraps.
But it's not just for show, 52 per cent say they genuinely enjoy cooking and finding new things to try, while 42 per cent prefer making quality meals at home instead of eating out.
A third admit they rarely dine out at all due to time or cost.
Social media isn't just filling plates – it's expanding palates too.
A massive 63 per cent credit it for getting them to try new dishes and flavours they'd never have touched before.
Bubble tea, wraps, cereal made from pancakes – nothing's off the table.
The study of 1,000 Gen Z adults, commissioned by Publicis Commerce, reveals a massive shift in how this generation cooks, eats and shops.
Steve Ricketts, chief commerce officer at Publicis Media, said the gap between 'seeing and buying' is closing fast – and brands need to catch up.
'This research shows just how central social media has become to how Gen Z think about food, from what they cook to what ends up in their basket,' he said.
'They're discovering recipes through influencers, finding products in real time, and buying them directly on the same platform. For brands, that means the moment of inspiration is also the moment of purchase.'
So if you thought TikTok was just for dances and filters, think again – it's what's for dinner.
TOP 10 SOURCES FOR MEAL INSPIRATION FOR GEN Z:

6. Searching online search engines

I'm a mum of 12 – £4.50 IKEA buy is a live-saver for our busy council house bathroom, it lasts forever too

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A MUM-OF-12 has revealed the bargain IKEA buy she swears by to keep on top of the busy family bathroom. Zoe, 47, and Ben Sullivan, 50, and their bumper brood make up one of Scotland's biggest families. They live in a six-bedroom council house in Burghead, Moray, where they regularly document their hectic lives on their YouTube channel. With 14 people sharing two bathrooms, Zoe said she has to clean the space "all the time". And storage for everybody's toiletries can be a nightmare. In a short social media video, Zoe said: "We were in desperate need of some new bathroom caddies. "I had these metal ones which have been okay. I got them from B&M, but obviously because they get wet all the time they rust really easily and they don't stick all that well." The mum then stumbled across the perfect £4.50 buy from IKEA. Hailing the TISKEN basket with suction cup, she said: "These are great if you don't want to drill anything into the wall, especially if you are renting. "We've got a lot of stuff in the bathroom. There's a lot of people and this is our main bathroom. "But once you stick those things down, they are not going anywhere. I was fed up of my council bathroom looking like a s--thole so transformed it with stick on tiles & an £80 shower screen "They're plastic so they don't rust, easily cleaned just and they they're massive. They hold so much." IKEA bosses say the caddie "puts things within easy reach" without having to drill any holes into your walls. They add: "The tight-grip suction cups won't let go of smooth surfaces like glass or tiles – unless you want them to." And Zoe isn't the only person raving about them, with the handy gadget racking up five-star reviews on the website. One person said: "I was concerned about it staying put, due to only the suction hooks that hold it secure against the surface. This is unbelievable secure. Brilliant." A second wrote: "Bought these because all the metal ones I have bought have rusted. Basic but holds a ton of products. Very secure when installed. We have some texture on our tiles and it's still very secure." Meanwhile, a third added: "Bought this for all the bottles that drive me mad in the shower. "Hubby was skeptical, said wouldn't hold etc but he's been proven wrong, so strong and stays out even full of bottles and no chrome to rust either!"

If You Hate Skinny Jeans, I've Just Found The Perfect Pair Of Baggy Trousers

@Instagram/@gallagher_anais Skinny jeans are a marmite topic. Half of us love them, half of us loathe them - I find myself sitting somewhere in the middle. However, for those who simply cannot stand the sight of a pair of skinny jeans, there are plenty of other denim styles to choose from: wide-leg, straight-leg, mom, dad, bootcut, bell-bottoms (and breathe). No denim, however, comes close to the comfort of a pair of baggy trousers. And I mean super baggy, that's where my latest find comes in. Free People's Onset Pants are the perfect pair of baggy trousers for those who've sworn off any type of skinny jeans. With a wide-leg, utilitarian tie waist, pockets and the kind of slouch that still reads as polished, its trousers are what I'm going to call the antidote to denim-induced claustrophobia. Stay with me. Spotted recently on Anais Gallagher at an Oasis gig, the Onset Pants look effortlessly rock 'n' roll, as she styled them with Free People's Everyday Tee in clean ivory. We can all probably agree that there's something just so cool about the way Gallagher wore the trousers; it's almost like she's just thrown them on and headed out. Don't box the Onset Pants into the Brit It-girl aesthetic just yet, though, the trousers would also look just as good paired with a sheer knit and colourful trainers, or with a boho blouse and ballet flats. ©Instagram/@gallagher_anais Free People, Onset Pants - Calla Green The brand describes its Onset Pants as 'laidback in every way', and we can see why. The pants feature a mid-rise waist, a billowy design and baggy bottoms. Style with a more fitted top, like a baby tee or tank top and flip flops. The best part about the Onset Pants isn't just the numerous styling possibilities, but it's the excellent features of the trousers, too. Made from 100% cotton and with a mid-rise waist, the Onset Pants are as comfortable as they come, and the billowy, wide-leg bottoms are stylish, but won't drown you. Functional pockets add a touch of utilitarian charm, and the colour choices (anything from a bright amber yellow to a white shade named tofu) mean there's a shade to suit everyone, whether you prefer to dopamine dress or not. The truth is, the sartorial shift away from skinny jeans to baggier silhouettes speaks volumes about how we want to feel in our clothes. I, for one, no longer want to struggle to zip up jeans or undo my belt after dinner. Free People's Onset Pants embrace this new era of freedom and fluidity, with their oversized, slouchy style and elasticated waist. It's proof that a baggier style can be just as striking as a more tailored piece, definitely, maybe if you're heading to a gig or festival in the near future, too. Free People, Onset Pants - Dusted Cocoa Free People, Onset Pants - Amber Yellow Free People, Onset Pants - Berry Twist Free People, Onset Pants - Tofu Urban Outfitters, BDG Baggy Boi Trousers Urban Outfitters also has a pair of khaki baggy trousers, with similar utilitarian details and tie waist. Its style has a low-waisted fit, two inset pockets and one rear patch pocket, perfect for styling with graphic tees and trainers. Pull & Bear, Balloon Fit Technical Cargo Trousers Pull & Bear's take on a classic baggy trouser has a balloon fit, as well as flap pockets on the legs and an elasticated waist. Made of cotton, the trousers are an excellent transitional piece, and in the cooler months, layer up with a chunky knit and black ankle boots. Damson Madder, Felix Twill Trousers Damson Madder also has a pair of trousers that are of the same style as Free People's. Its Felix Twill Trousers have a loose barrel fit, an elasticated waist and embroidery on the back pockets. I turned my basic council house bathroom into a luxe space for less than £150, my ‘marble' tiles were a peel & stick job

A MUM has revealed how she gave her plain council house bathroom a full-on luxury glow-up for less than £150 using peel-and-stick tiles. Melinda, who posts under @missgreyhomexo on TikTok, shared her bargain makeover with her followers and it's left people stunned by how posh her bathroom now looks. 2 2 In her video, Melinda revealed she used stick-on tiles in a stone marble design to totally transform the space. She said: 'I really wasn't happy with the other one. It was nice, but it just wasn't me. So I ended up getting these stone marble tiles and I literally covered the whole bathroom. And honestly, I love it.' And the best part is it only took five packs of tiles to get the job done and cost way less than most people would expect. 'I wish I did this before,' she added. 'But it's fine, we live and we learn.' Her secret weapon was a budget-friendly 30x60cm peel-and-stick tiles that are renter-friendly, super easy to use, and don't require any messy grout or expensive labour. They just stick straight to the wall without drilling, dust or drama. Melinda sealed around the edges with silicone to stop any moisture creeping in, and added a bath board, an £80 shower screen from Argos, and some stylish accessories she already had at home. The total bill set her back under £150. Tradesmen quoted me £2.5K to wrap my kitchen cupboards so I did it myself for £62 instead and it looks so good Viewers couldn't believe how classy her bathroom looked for the price and hundreds flooded the comments asking where she got everything. One user said: "omg wow I love this". Another added: "This looks amazing". She's pinned the tile link on her TikTok page, but warned fans the stone marble version she used is currently out of stock. Still, other shades are available and if you're looking to give your own bathroom a facelift without breaking the bank, this might be the cheapest luxury hack going. So whether you're in a council flat or just fancy a freshen-up, this DIY queen proves you don't need big bucks to live in style. It's not just the bathroom you can use these easy peel-and-stick tiles for. Charlotte Watson took to TikTok to share her budget makeover, showing off her seriously chic new kitchen, all thanks to some bargain finds and a bit of elbow grease. People were shocked to discover just how cheap it was but Charlotte simply pointed to her budget B&M buy that completely transformed the space. In her video, Charlotte explains that the kitchen 'definitely needed a little bit of love', so she rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in, determined to give it a new lease of life without breaking the bank. The finishing touch was a game-changing stick-on laminate from B&M that only set her back £21.
