Navi Mumbai: Three youths performing a life-threatening stunt in a moving auto rickshaw on the arterial Thane-Belapur road along Digha station on Saturday were detained by Rabale MIDC police after tracing them to their residences in Digha village on Sunday.
The stunt video went viral on social media after it was recorded by a motorist behind the auto rickshaw and posted on X (formerly Twitter) handle @SabSeTezz1 by a social activist-cum-journalist, Binu Varghese from Thane.
In the video clip, one youth is seen hanging behind the moving auto rickshaw while the youth at the wheel and another youth on the rear seat are seen leaning outside the vehicle.

Charged Rs 11,900, IndiGo Passenger Alleges Luggage Weight Scam At Goa Airport

Curated By : Diksha Modi Translation Desk Last Updated: August 06, 2025, 19:09 IST The passenger was charged Rs 11,900, including Rs 1,500 for an umbrella. (Source: X/@ShivrattanDhil1) A passenger's allegation of faulty baggage weighing machines at Goa's Dabolim Airport has triggered a heated controversy, with budget carrier IndiGo and airport authorities refuting any discrepancies. The claim, made by Rattan Dhillon, a Chandigarh resident, has now gone viral on social media, raising fresh questions about transparency in baggage fee calculations. Dhillon, who boarded IndiGo flight 6E724 from Goa to Chandigarh on August 4, posted a detailed grievance on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the airline of overcharging him due to 'manipulated" luggage scales. According to him, the same bag showed three different weights at three separate counters (18 kg, 16 kg, and 15 kg) yet he was told to pay excess baggage fees based on the highest figure. 'Yesterday, while boarding flight 6E724 from Goa to Chandigarh, my bag showed 18 kg on one belt, 16 kg on another, and 15 kg on a third. When I questioned the discrepancy, the IndiGo staff simply replied, 'Sir, the 15 kg machine must be wrong, 18 is the correct weight'," Dhillon wrote in his post on Tuesday, August 5. He further claimed that his luggage had weighed exactly 15 kg at his hotel before leaving for the airport. He was eventually charged Rs 11,900, including Rs 1,500 for an umbrella. 'This is nothing less than daylight robbery, and passengers are being ripped off without realizing it. IndiGo must be held accountable for this fraud," he added. The viral post included a photograph of the weighing counter and a screenshot of his ticket, further fuelling public debate over airline practices. IndiGo issued a formal response, asserting that its equipment is regularly calibrated and inspected. 'We attempted to contact Mr Dhillon on his registered number but could not reach him. All our baggage weighing machines are certified by the airport authority and undergo periodic checks," the airline said in a statement. IndiGo also revealed that the total check-in luggage for Dhillon and his co-passengers amounted to 52 kg, exceeding the permitted limit of 45 kg for three passengers, and the extra charges were in accordance with airline policy. While IndiGo maintains that there was no fault in the equipment, Dhillon's post has reignited debate about accountability and consumer rights in domestic air travel. Calls for stricter independent audits and the installation of transparent weighing systems visible to passengers have intensified. Fast and fined: Scooter DK Shivakumar rode has Rs 18,500 in traffic fines from 34 cases; owner pays Rs 1,000 after viral ride

A file photo of Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar. BENGALURU: A gearless scooter ridden by Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar during an inspection of the newly constructed loop on Hebbal flyover on Tuesday has Rs 18,500 pending in traffic fines from 34 cases, the JD(S) alleged in an official post on X (formerly Twitter). DK Shivakumar had a ride through the loop; first alone and then with a pillion. It is not clear whether the owner of the gearless scooter is a political party functionary or a just passerby. Police said the vehicle owner visited Hebbal traffic police station on Wednesday afternoon and paid a Rs 1,000 fine. "He promised to pay the remaining fine amount— Rs 17,500 in a few days," police said. The gearless scooter, bearing the license plate number (KA 04 JZ 2087), is registered in the name of Babjan, son of Nanne Sab S from Bhuvaneshwarinagar in RT Nagar. The list of 34-offences include speaking over a mobile phone while riding, jumping traffic signals, wrong parking, and riding without a helmet, among others. The JD (S) party took a swipe at Shivakumar, pointing out the unpaid fines while sharing visuals of him riding pillion on the scooter. "Also, the half-helmets worn by Shivakumar and his pillion rider during the inspection are illegal. However, since we are not penalising the public for wearing half helmets, we will not fine Shivakumar and his pillion for the half-helmets. But yes, whenever we find motorists with half helmets, we request them not to use them," a senior traffic police officer said. The video sparked a debate on social media, where netizens asked cops to check whether DK Shivakumar has a driving license or not. Also, the netizens pointed out that half-helmets are illegal.

Fake Drone Alert: Two YouTubers Held For Spreading False Panic In Meerut

Two female YouTubers were creating fake content about drone sightings just to get more views and followers online. Police in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, recently increased patrolling after people reported spotting suspicious drones in nearby areas. Many feared that drone thieves were active, which made locals worried and alert. But after the investigation, police found that the sightings were not real. Instead, two female YouTubers were behind the false stories. They were creating fake content about drone sightings just to get more views and followers online. Both women were taken into custody but were later released on bail after police questioned them. Surprisingly, it's not the first time something like this has happened in Uttar Pradesh. The two content creators involved in the case were identified as Laiba Mantasha and Meenakshi Singh. A part of their video is now going viral on social media. In the clip, one of them can be heard saying that she was out at 3 AM looking for a drone thief. Although no actual person was shown in the video, she acted as if she was chasing someone. She told her followers to stay alert and claimed that there were others also helping her to catch the thief. She even said that she will reveal who the thief was. All of this was done to create suspense and attract more viewers. — Pankaj (@AtWorkAmarUjala) August 6, 2025 Just last week, several people in Meerut were sent to jail for a similar case, spreading fake news about drone sightings. According to a Times of India report, police found 28 misleading posts on social media and registered 15 FIRs. So far, 8 people have been arrested. Meerut SSP, Vipin Tada, shared that the cyber team looked into different platforms like Instagram, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). They found 19 fake posts were on Instagram, 7 on Facebook and 2 on X. The police are still checking these platforms to stop false information and avoid public panic. Tada said, 'These false claims of drone activity triggered panic and unrest in parts of the district. So far, we have arrested eight people and sent them to jail." One of the residents recalled, 'Men from the nearby forested areas tried to barge into our homes at night. We stayed up all night to keep watch. We even called 112, the police came, but did little. The drone sightings are real. Even the officers who came acknowledged it, but no serious action followed." According to reports, most of the FIRs were filed in rural parts of Meerut. These include areas like Partapur, Parikshitgarh, Mundali and Sardhana. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
