McGregor on prospect of facing ex-Celtic duo Kuhn & Valle
Kuhn left Celtic for Como this summer in a £17m transfer move with Alex Valle having spent time on loan at Parkhead before a switch to join Cesc Fabregas' side.
McGregor is looking forward to seeing his old team-mates again during the pre-season trip as he hailed the privilege of being involved in football and the Como Cup.
"You cross paths so many times with new players, and you get to know them on a personal level as well," he said.
"You spend so many days at the hotel, training ground, playing with each other and building connections.
"It's always nice when you see players move on and do really well for themselves.

"It'll be nice to see those boys again, but football is an amazing industry where you travel the world, meet new people, and it broadens your horizons as well.
"We are really lucky to be a part of this and good to see the guys again as well."
Quizzed on what a loss Kuhn will be to [[Celtic]], manager Brendan Rodgers added: "Nicolas will be a real exciting talent.
"When we watched him playing in Rapid Vienna, straight away his speed, his ability with the ball and his ability to score goals really stood out.
"When we took him to Celtic, all of those qualities shone through.
"He was also playing in a very, very good team at Celtic, because for a player to shine, you also want to be in a good team.
"Callum and his team-mates really helped him improve as a player, and when you play for such a big club like Celtic, you become a winner.
"He left after 18 months, done a fantastic job for Celtic; he's a good guy, has lots of qualities, and I hope he does really, really well here."

‘That's my honest answer' – Brendan Rodgers quizzed on whether Celtic will make another signing before Euro play-off
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BRENDAN RODGERS admits there's no guarantee Celtic will strengthen before the Champions League play-off. The Hoops boss still wants replacements for Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi - with the play-off in ten days. Asked if players would be signed for the play-off, he said: 'I really don't know. That's my honest answer. "There's no news on signings. We just have to keep working to get the players in and there is a lot of work going on with Paul Tisdale and his staff. "We are hoping we can conclude deals and improve the squad. That's the ongoing plan. 'By the end game, we want to get the right players in and we know what the supporters want. 'In the meantime we will work with the players who are here to make them the best that they can be.' Pressed on whether the current Celtic squad is strong enough to get through the play-off, Rodgers said: 'Whether it is or it isn't, that's irrelevant. 'I have to deal with the players who are here and squeeze every bit out of them. 'I'm very hopeful that we can add players in the coming weeks but I can't afford to get bogged down in it. 'We are very clear on what we need and where we want to improve. Nicolas Kuhn poses for selfies with Celtic fans as he greets team-mates and Brendan Rodgers at Como Cup 'Hopefully we can add the players that can make our football smile even more.' Celtic have left it late to get big business done in previous windows - spending £26million on Arne Engels, Auston Trusty and Adam Idah last summer. Rodgers wouldn't be drawn on what the hold-up is in this window but expects reinforcements to arrive at some point. He said: 'The board have shown over many years that the work will get done. 'As a group that runs the club and have run it so well for so many years, they have to get what they feel is the best value for the players. 'Of course, as coaches and managers and supporters, you want the best players. 'But ultimately, the club will be run in a way that makes sure that both the best players and the best value is there to be made. 'That clearly sits above me.' Celtic have the option to postpone their Premiership clash with Livingston on August 23 - 72 hours before a potential trip to Kazakhstan. But Rodgers said: 'We will be playing against Livingston. Definitely. 'It's going to be a tough game no matter who we get in the play-off but it's early in the season and we don't want to postpone a home league fixture.' Meanwhile, Rodgers has again pleaded with the Green Brigade to bin the pyro. Celtic have been hit with an SPFL charge for the use of fireworks in a May clash with St Mirren at Parkhead. The Green Brigade face a 200-ticket loss for one match if there is another pyro display this season and Rodgers urged those responsible to listen. Rodgers said: 'The safety of supporters is of paramount importance and that is the message.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Celtic secure long-term deal for 'major asset' - but exit still could be on cards

Brendan Rodgers believes Celtic have a 'major asset' on their hands in Johnny Kenny after handing the Irish striker a long-term contract extension at Parkhead. Kenny, 22, has signed a deal that ties him to Celtic until 2029 after being a regular feature in Rodgers' team during pre-season and coming off the bench in the opening William Hill Premiership win over St Mirren. He netted his first goal for the club in May in a 5-1 win at Aberdeen and scored a penalty in the Scottish Cup shoot-out defeat against the same opposition at Hampden. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international joined on a five-year deal from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 and has had loan spells with Queen's Park and Shamrock Rovers, where he netted 25 goals last year. Johnny Kenny has agreed a new deal with Celtic. | SNS Group Rodgers said of the contract extension: 'It's good news for Johnny and the club. He's a young player that was signed a few years ago, went away, got experience, has come back and we can really see the difference in his development since he came back in January. 'So we think he's still got a load more development to go. He's quick, he's hungry and we think in the future he can be a really good asset for the club.' Kenny earlier revealed how important his manager's backing was. 'All I wanted to do was commit my future to this club and I'm delighted it's done now,' he told Celtic TV. 'I feel really proud. I spoke to the manager at the start of the summer and it was a case of tying it all together. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Kenny sets out his Celtic aims 'I like to think that I can score goals and the manager believes in me too, so that helps when I'm in and around the box, knowing that the manager backs me. I want to achieve everything possible at this club. I want to play Champions League football, win every trophy available and score goals. That's my aim.' Kenny is currently competing with the likes of Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah and Shin Yamada for first-team action but there appears to be a possibility he will go out on loan again if Rodgers gets the attacking options he is looking for in the transfer market. Rodgers said: 'At this very moment he's here and a part of our squad, so I think you look through to the end of the month and obviously there's still work across the squad to do. But he's had a really good pre-season, worked very hard, this will give him confidence and give him that feeling that he's wanted at the club.

'The best': Ex-Rangers hero lands verdict on Ibrox new boys - and names Celtic star they must look to emulate
The ex-Rangers striker has shared his thoughts on the Ibrox club's summer business. Sign up to our Football newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! Did you know with a Digital Subscription to The Scotsman, you can get unlimited access to the website including our premium content, as well as benefiting from fewer ads, loyalty rewards and much more. Learn More Sorry, there seem to be some issues. Please try again later. Submitting... Kris Boyd believes Rangers' new signings are already proving they have what it takes to be successful at Ibrox, though the club have been warned they still 'desperately' need to add to the squad before the transfer window shuts. Head coach Russell Martin has made nine additions already this summer, bringing in Joe Rothwell, Lyall Cameron, Max Aarons, Thelo Aasgaard, Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez, Djeidi Gassama, Mikey Moore and Oliver Antman, but the incoming must not stop there, according to former Rangers favourite Boyd, who has pinpointed two problem areas the club must address before the September 1 deadline. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Gassama has the best of the lot so far,' Boyd told 'He's shown in two European games already that he's got something. Two goals, two great finishes. I think on Saturday, you could tell that he needs games to develop, but he looks like a potential star signing for Rangers. I think he has a great future ahead of him if he stays focused. Rangers new signing Nasser Djiga has settled in well during the opening weeks of the season. | SNS Group 'Djiga, who came in from Wolves, has also impressed me a lot, so there are a couple of players who have already shown they have what it takes to be successful in a short period. But they're going to be judged on winning trophies. You look at Antman, you'd imagine that he'll be someone who they would like to come in for maybe a season, two seasons and try and move them on. 'Celtic have done that really well, in that bracket of players between 22 and 25, and get them in for a couple of seasons, get them European football and then move them on for big money. I think Rangers are trying to adopt that style, but it's a lot easier to do it when you're winning like Celtic. Rothwell comes in, and he's got experience. There are players within that Rangers working environment who are experienced. But, I think you have to find that balance.' However, while Boyd believes his former team is doing the right thing by adopting a similar transfer model to their fierce rivals, he believes they must also take inspiration from how they integrate the talented young players with the more experienced pros within the squad. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Rangers do need experience in their team,' said Boyd. 'Rothwell's come in, and he's got experience. There are players within that Rangers working environment who are experienced. But I think you have to find that balance. Celtic have got that, and the spine of a team has always been experienced. You look at Callum McGregor in the middle of the pitch, someone who drives standards every single day. 'I think they need to get a striker in, regardless of whether Igamane and Dessers both stay. There's a real dearth of goal scorers. That's why Rangers will not be keen to let Dessers go. But if he does depart, then Rangers will need someone who can come in and hit the ground running. 'Danilo has started a couple of games, but he came in for £5million a couple of years back and I think he's been a disappointment. He's had a decent pre-season under his belt at last, which might help, but I am not convinced he can be the focal point for Rangers. They've been OK, but the central role for Rangers is missing someone who can make the shirt their own.
