Alex Palou shuts down F1 rumors after Indy 500 win: 'I don't want to leave now'
Alex Palou is in the midst of a historic INDYCAR season, and he isn't planning to go anywhere. The 2025 Indianapolis 500 winner isn't planning to join Formula 1 following the INDYCAR season, he told the Indy Star.
"(F1) is not calling me anymore. I still follow it. It's a huge series. It's amazing. I'm a big fan, but I don't think they're having as much fun as I'm having here," Palou told the Indy Star. "I don't see people celebrating with their wives and their kids as much as we do. I don't see them hanging in the bus lot or having dinner with their mechanics. I only enjoy driving and having fun and being with my people, so I think (F1) is the total opposite."
The Spaniard had been rumored to be a target to join an F1 team before his dominant start to the 2025 season, with Cadillac being the most recent team linked to Palou. He also attempted to race in F1 in 2023, joining McLaren as part of its Testing of Previous Cars program.
However, at 28, Palou believes that the time has now passed for him to join an F1 team as racers in the sport have been getting younger at the time of their debuts.
"I don't want to leave now. Even if they say, 'No, don't worry, you can come back in one or two years, what if suddenly everyone is here and I'm never able to catch back up to them?" Palou added. "And it wasn't in my mind last year, and it's not in my mind this year. It's getting less and less and less every day, and with this, it's like, 'No, I want to get another (Indy 500 victory).'"
Palou has won the INDYCAR Series in three of the last four years, taking home the Drivers' champion title in 2021, 2023 and 2024. His 2025 season might be his best yet, though. He's won five of the first six races, with his win at the Indy 500 on Sunday being the first ever at the event by a Spaniard. It also marks the best start an individual driver has had in an INDYCAR season since 1964, when A.J. Foyt won the first seven races of that season. The one race Palou didn't win, the Acura Grand Prix, he finished second.
Palou will seek to win his sixth race of the season on Sunday, when the 2025 INDYCAR season continues with the Detroit Grand Prix (12:30 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app).

It was also the second-longest Grand Slam men's singles final, behind only Djokovic vs. Nadal in the 2012 Australian Open (5:53). LIV Golf Virginia: Joaquin Niemann wins; Crushers GC take team title
GAINESVILLE, Va. — Joaquin Niemann was once again the man to emerge from a crowded leaderboard to claim victory at LIV Golf Virginia. The Chilean shot an 8-under-63 to earn his sixth LIV Golf win, which is the most of any player. On the team leaderboard, Crushers GC earned its eighth LIV win, which is the most of any team. Crushers GC has now won back-to-back team trophies after finishing first at LIV Golf Korea last month. Captain Bryson DeChambeau, Paul Casey, Anirban Lahiri and Charles Howell III have made up the Crushers since the team's inception. The individual leaderboard was jam-packed with superstars, including HyFlyers GC captain Phil Mickelson and DeChambeau, but also featured past major champions looking to win after long droughts. Smash GC's Graeme McDowell and RangeGoats GC captain Bubba Watson were both in contention until the bitter end. The veterans in the mix played well enough, but Niemann showed once again that he's nearly impossible to beat on Sundays when he's in the mix. Lahiri, who was the 36-hole leader, suffered yet another heartbreak. He finished in a tie for 2nd after shooting a 3-under-68. The runner-up was the fifth in Lahiri's LIV Golf career. Martin Kaymer, the 18-hole co-leader, shot a 1-under-70 to finish tied for eighth — his best finish ever on LIV Golf. Ben Campbell of RangeGoats GC set a LIV Golf record for consecutive birdies made in a single round with seven. The Kiwi birdied the 13th hole through the first hole and ended up shooting a 62. Lee Westwood also shot 62 to match Campbell's low round of the week. Westwood's 62 tied his career-low round on LIV Golf. Thomas Pieters of 4Aces GC shot an 8-under-63. Jinichiro Kozuma and Brendan Steele also had impressive Sunday performances and each shot 7-under 64's. PARIS (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his French Open title on Sunday with a performance for the ages, winning the longest final at Roland-Garros in the Open era. Alcaraz produced a stunning comeback, rallying from two sets down to beat top-ranked Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (10-2) after saving three match points. Here's a by-the-numbers look at the thrilling final: 5 Alcaraz won his fifth Grand Slam title, in as many finals. The 22-year-old Spaniard became the third youngest man in history to reach that milestone after Bjorn Borg (21) and Rafael Nadal (22). And it was the fifth time in succession Alcaraz has beaten Sinner overall. 5 hours, 29 minutes This was the longest men's final at Roland-Garros.
