MP Police launch statewide anti-drug campaign with slogan 'Nashe Se Doori, Hai Jaroori'
The campaign began with DGP Makwana unveiling a poster and message from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, emphasising the state government's commitment to make the people drug-free.
The large-scale campaign launched at police headquarters in Bhopal will continue till July 30.
The campaign, which is aimed at creating awareness among the citizens, will involve each police station across Madhya Pradesh.
"Drug addiction kills our youths and destroy families. With this campaign, the police along with several other institutions and NGOs, will create an awareness and convince people to stay away from drug and alcohol," Makwana said while addressing the press.
Makwana told that several departments of the state governments, including school education, health, rural development and sports and youth welfare, etc, will be organising awareness programmes.
The Narcotics wing of the Madhya Pradesh Police will lead the campaign.
The large-scale campaign will involve programmes highlighting drug prevention, counselling, and rehabilitation, aiming to tackle the issue of substance abuse through a community-oriented approach, the DGP said.
Additional Director General (Narcotics) K.P. Venkateshwar Rao, who was accompanied to Makwana during the press briefing, said that the campaign specifically targets adolescents and youth, educating them on the harmful effects of drug use.
"This campaign is not just about deterrence -- it's about compassion and support," Rao said, adding that, "We want to create awareness while offering real help to those who need it."
The campaign is expected to witness active participation from multiple sectors, including government agencies, NGOs, religious leaders, social workers, elected representatives, and both village and urban safety committees.
Their collective efforts aim to spread the message of drug prevention across all the sections of society.
Awareness activities will be held at schools, colleges, public places, and online platforms.
Through educational programs and community engagement, the campaign aims to empower individuals -- especially the youth -- with the knowledge and resilience to say no to drugs.

Sri Ram Sene leader held for poisoning school water tank to target Muslim headmaster in Karnataka
BELAGAVI: In a shocking incident, police have confirmed that a Sri Ram Sene leader deliberately poisoned the drinking water tank of a government school in Hulikatti, Saundatti taluk, leading to 12 students falling ill. The attack, police said, was motivated by religious bias aimed at the school's headmaster, who is a Muslim. Including Sri Ram Sene leader Sagar Patil, the main accused, all three persons involved in the plot have been arrested. The incident occurred a couple of weeks ago at the Government Higher Primary School in Hulikatti, which has 41 enrolled students. Headmaster Suleman Gorinayak, who has been serving at the school for 13 years, was allegedly the target of the conspiracy. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Dr Bhimashankar Guled said, 'Sagar Patil of Hulikatti village conspired to have the headmaster removed purely because of his religion (Muslim). To execute this plan, he coerced another villager, Krishna Madar, by threatening to expose his inter-caste relationship unless he cooperated.' Under duress, Krishna, along with his associate Naganagouda Patil, allegedly procured pesticide from Munavalli town. They mixed it into a soft drink bottle and bribed a minor student from the school with Rs 500, snacks, and chocolates to pour the contents into the school's water tank. The student carried out the act as instructed. On July 14, soon after consuming the contaminated water, 12 students fell ill and 11of them were hospitalised and treated promptly. All have since recovered. SP Guled confirmed that the accused, Sagar Patil, Krishna Madar, and Naganagouda Patil have been arrested. A case has been registered at Saundatti Police Station, and further investigation is on.

It is one thing to be an IPS officer, but quite another to serve in power hubs like Delhi or Mumbai, where policing overlaps with politics, influence, and intense scrutiny. Few officers understand this better than Param Bir Singh, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner and the ex-Director General of the Maharashtra Home Guard. It's been three years since Singh retired, but he is back in the news again, this time because of his role as one of the investigating officers in the 2008 Malegaon blast 34-year-long career has been marked by both high-profile postings, cases, and a slew of controversies that followed.A special NIA court in Mumbai acquitted all seven accused on Thursday.
